Re: Curious ADFS HD problem

*DEX <hex sector number> in the ADT ROM will allow you to read and view disc sectors, so it will be interesting to see how this corrupted entry is stored within the GAMES directory. (Doing *EX ^ whilst within the GAMES directory will give you start sector in the output listing). Possibly the filenam...

Re: Curious ADFS HD problem

It does look like some freak corruption has occurred. I've had this myself on a CF-card IDE type drive. One of the drives has a $ directory in the root, but you can never access it because $.$ is an invalid pathname!

Re: BeebMaster Econet Clock Issue 2

I'm using a silicon soldering mat - although it's not as non-slip as it claims. If using a clamp to hold things together I suppose it could be done in any order. I've got it off to a pretty fine art now, I did 4 today in all. I measured out all the components first (although a diode disappeared betw...

Re: BeebMaster Econet Clock Issue 2

Thank you. I'm not sure it will be worth the trouble. With the second one I bent all three pins at a right-angle where they start to taper, and then bent the middle pin back out a bit probably to 135 degrees to fit the middle hole which is further away. Seemed to work out OK. I just noticed I haven'...

What is Advanced DFS 1.37? Can you access the disc with Acorn ADFS 1.30 (or 1.33 ish if it's IDE)?

Re: BeebMaster Econet Clock Issue 2

Currently it's running off the original prototype PSU, which is 10.5VAC 200mA. I haven't ordered the PSUs (12VDC) yet. The heatsink is warm, not noticeably hot, but what is getting pretty hot is the 75159. It's one from my general stock, although only arrived a few weeks back, said to be "new o...

Re: BeebMaster Econet Clock Issue 2

The pitch for everything was correct. The trickiest part was the voltage regulator and having to bend the pins to fit the triangular holes for them, I think that will take a bit of practice. Also the two ceramic caps. Although they were the correct lead spacing, they ones I've got have kinks near th...

Tried another LED, the short lead goes to the square pad on the board and then it works. Is that how it's supposed to be?

Describing Irregular 2D Shapes

In my work I am often sending out a plan for verification of an area delineated on the plan. I usually like to comment briefly on the area with a little bit of description, to draw attention to it. For regular shapes that's easy: it's a rectangle, it's a square, or if more or less rectangular but a ...

Re: Earliest examples of each machine?

Hmm. What's going on here then? This is an A3000. AEH01 doesn't appear in the list on Chris's Acorns and doesn't seem to "fit" in the scheme of codes either! (AEH are all Econet/Ethernet things). Interesting, that's not the normal printing for a serial number ticket either. I wonder if it...

Re: New Econet device

Is the net number taken into account when calculating the collision delay? For example, what happens if two stations with the same station number, but on different nets, try to transmit at the same time? Presumably in any event because of physical location of the stations, cable length etc. one of t...

Re: Today I received.....

I did wonder that, and thought they had added it as a bit of advertising. Much smoother than the delivery process with CPC, who have sent 6 different shipments so far, including 3 separate shipments for one component, and when the big box of IC socket tubes arrived via UPS, it had burst open and the...

I don't think I have an issue 1 "B Econet" (incidentally if you dismantle a Compact monitor stand PSU it's marked "Baby B PSU") but I do have the hand-built Acorn prototype Econet modules and they have 26LS34 and 26LS30: http://www.beebmaster.co.uk./Econet/Pics/NetProto1big.jpg

Re: Hard Drive Repalcement For FileStore ES01S

I'm sure Phil will be able to help you. I've successfully used a SCSI2SD board as a replacement for FileStore hard drives. This allows custom mode pages to be configured, so you can trick the FileStore into accepting it as a replacement hard drive which requires a (C)Acorn message to be written into...

If the highway planners had any brains they would make the roads concave shaped and have drainage channels running all the way along the sides, instead of the odd grid here and there specifically located to actually miss running ...

Interesting, although £50 for a fully assembled board is only pennies cheaper than I paid for my SCSI2SD. I wonder if it can do custom mode pages etc like SCSI2SD does, to support non-standard drives (like FileStore hard drives).

Re: Does the Beeb's system clock miss ticks?

This is better I think. With a normal Econet clock speed and a busy network (two stations running the test at the same time, each peeking a different station), much time is lost:

Re: Does the Beeb's system clock miss ticks?

Oops - in the previous Econet test, I had 2 Clocks on the network, which explains the dodgy pauses I couldn't understand! Even at silly speed (7:8) it still doesn't lose any speed.
