Re: A7000+ battery

Just going to tag this on the end here rather than create a new thread!

I assume that I can fit a CR2032 with 4.7k resistor and 1N4148 diode in an A5000 ?

It's been on the bench in bits for far too long now and I need to get it back to it's owner :)

Re: BeebEm Mac - Info

Well it’s not like we haven’t known about this for a long, long time now! Pretty sure this is my only 32bit app left although I do need to check the JDK I use for work. I’ll bow out now as I can’t be of any further help. I only really stepped in to build the current signed version and never got roun...

Re: Data Center Discontinued?!

Oh that's a shame since a Gotek really isn't a replacement - no IDE / HDD / ADFS etc. But, obviously understandable if parts had become a problem.

Data Center Discontinued?!

Just noticed that Mark appears to have discontinued the Data Centre. Sorry if this is old news! I don't actually need one, fortunately I already have one but I'm quite surprised to see this. I guess parts eventually run dry or some such. The website says to email for news on other USB storage option...

That’s good to hear!

Incidentally, I forgot that link was there. It’s the same as the release on the official site now so no need to use my link.

OK, everything that was on my private git repository, including reported issues is now on the StarDot Github: https://github.com/stardot/beebem-mac I'm not sure if I need to do anything more in respect of permissions or not, if so, please let me know. Obviously all the issues are showing as reported...

Re: BeebEm Mac - Info

I've created a public repository for it in the Stardot organisation but I'm not at the right computer at the moment to upload from my private machine. I'll create a reminder to do it tomorrow. It's only a couple of git commands so it's easier if I just leave it until tomorrow rather than creating ne...

Re: BeebEm Mac - Info

I have always included the source code as part of the distribution so have no problems putting the latest code on GitHub. I just don't have the time or skills anymore to upgrade BeebEm to 64 bits. Let's hope someone else will take on the task of keeping BeebEm alive in the future. Thank you! I know...

Re: BeebEm Mac - Info

Will we still be able to use the xattr workaround? Not ideal, but better than nothing. If a new version isn't created then it won't be a problem as the existing version is already signed. The signature should be timestamped so it won't matter if my ID is renewed or not. If I don't renew it then I j...

Re: BeebEm Mac - Info

Well, I have to say guys, from my point of view this is going nowhere. I've not heard anything from the original author since my initial contact and sorting out of the signed release last year. I've had a tonne of stuff to deal with in my personal life and my plans to get more into the Apple side of...

Not quiet "today I received..." but. Yesterday I flicked through this thread and spotted the "Game Engine Black Book: Doom". Re: Those Spectrum nerds, eh?

I distinctly remember when I was in middle school (we run a 3-school system here and seem to be in the minority in that respect) that I used to attend after-school "classes" where three of us would work with the physics teacher to build a voice synthesiser addon on for the ZX81. I have no clue whose...

Re: A5000 - worth having?

OK, so the machine is with me now and the PCB is on the bench. i've cleaned it up (with isopropyl alcohol only for now), removed the battery and also removed the PLCC FPA socket since some of the pins were obviously green. Also looks like pin discolouration on the CPU and some stuff around the cmos ...

Re: A5000 - worth having?

Cool, thanks for the info. Apparently the machine was in regular use up until 2016 and it has never been in a loft or anything like that so although the battery has for sure started to go I'm quietly hopeful that it's not too bad and can be saved. Not sure yet when it will come to me for repair but ...

A5000 - worth having?

Hi guys, I know precious little about 32bit Acorns. My cousins son has inherited his grandfather’s A5000. I don’t know what if anything he’s likely to do with it. It’s unlikely to come my way though. Where do they fit in the grand scheme of things? All I’ve ever had before was a 3020 and I have to s...

Incidentally, the repository is back online. I do still have the online gaming problems so it might g...

Re: BeebEm Mac - Info

This should work just fine - I just tested it. Make sure you are running a floppy filing system: *DISC File / Disc Options / New Disc 0 (or CMD D) - as Lurkio says, ensure you specify an extension such as .SSD Drive 0 should automatically get write protection removed, but check with File / Disc Opti...

Re: Dragon 32 or Amstrad CPC 464

1982 and 1983, when the Dragon 32 would have made most of its sales, it was up against the Speccy, Beeb and VIC-20. It was cheaper than the Beeb, had a better keyboard than the Spectrum and was more advanced than the VIC. I think this may have been a lot of my logic too. I know the "real" keyboard ...

Re: Dragon 32 or Amstrad CPC 464

Just seen this thread so catching up. I actually have a soft spot for both of these machines since they were ones that I owned back when they were out. My progression was ZX81 -> Dragon32 -> CPC464. I couldn't afford the Dragon 64 (or struggled to beg my parents for the 32 so the 64 was out of the q...

It never hurts to be wary of these things. Hi Martin - thanks for the updated tools. For the most part all checks out fine here, in particular the SSD that wasn't working before is now working. Re: Where do you get your retrocomputing fix?

For real-world retro fixes I'm alone in that I don't know anyone locally who's into the old stuff (sure, there probably ARE people, but I don't know them) so sadly, it's limited to me, myself and I, up in my shed :D

Back around 2009 / 2010 I used to go to events but nothing really since then.

Then it’s just a case of opening the channel, selecting the file and clicking send  Like I say, that sounds like a lot of faffing about, especially if perhaps I wanted to do it as part of a build script. I actually had in mind something as simple as "upput <fname>" from the command line. But yeah, maybe a finder integrated service entry, maybe a "drop a file onto an icon in the dock" or whatever. Anything more complicated then "upget <fname>" starts to get into the realms of UI's and stuff I guess. ...
