Re: Rapid not selling 60/40 to general punters anymore?

Having had a Rapid cash account for years now I spoke to a very nice person who converted it to a credit account for me =D> The 'speak to a human' advice was top notch. Thanks for the input everyone, especially re: unleaded. I don't think I'm about to change over yet, especially since it costs way m...

Rapid not selling 60/40 to general punters anymore?

I love the Rapid 60/40 solder. It cleans super easy with IPA, it doesn't smell and it's a joy to use. Great wetting and a lovely shine. AND NOW THEY WONT SELL IT TO ME    Apparently you need to be a credit customer to be able to order it. Screenshot 2020-07-04 at 08.35.05.png I've app...

Thank you so much for uploading this. I couldn't have upgraded this 16K board to 32K without it! 8) Also thanks to Mark @ Retroclinic for the chips =D>

Re: AtoMMC extensions

 excellent! The very latest (not yet prototyped) AtoMMC board has serial broken out. This should act as a driver for me to implement something!

Very cool work Roland, very cool indeed 8)

AtoMMC extensions

Because my project stack is only about 295 deep at the moment I've been thinking about things I can do with the extension header. Joystick. Networking with ESP. PS2 Keyboard. Disco lights, automated fish feeder, electric curtains might have to wait 8) The joystick is already supported. It's al...

Re: Expanding the Atom with more memory

A RAMROM/YARRB is definitely the best-of-the-best solution. It gives way more options than a bunch of individual mods. ROM paging, selectable windows in the memory map etc etc. That said, you might already have a RAM expansion and don't need the additional facilities that a modern solution will prov...

Re: Odd reset/Atom MMC behaviour

Hi Gav, I think I've fixed the issue. The latest firmware only releases the IRQ once a command has been received from the Atom. This will ensure that the IRQ is serviced no matter how fast or slow a card/Atom is. I have attached the latest build, which you can update your AtoMMC with. If you've done...

Crystal replacement

Hi all, A crystal on my issue 3 is huge. ENORMOUS. I'd like to replace it with something a little more discreet. Well both actually. In case I come to fit a RAMROM. crystaltips.jpg From my readings there are parallel and series cut crystals. They have different use cases. Referencing the Atom schema...

Replacement power jack for Atom

Hi All,

Any recommendations for a replacement jack? I'd like something to drop in, using a modern style plug ideally. That funky old long connector is a pain. If anyone has a part number and supplier that would be great, thanks!

Unknown utility ROM - how to identify w/o dumping?

A quick ? through the ROM's content might show commands etc but this wouldn't identify versions. I'd imagine a checksum would be the best way to positively identify a utility ROM when there is little chance of dumping it. There is a checksum algo in the manual IIRC, but I also seem to remember it's ...

Re: YARRB

I am curious what really caused the problems. Are you willing to figure that out by for example comparing the most critical signals at the good and the bad ic's? I suspect that one or all are marginal in some parameter or other. I'm no detective though, and wouldn't know where to begin with an anal...

Re: YARRB

I suspected the 8255 as occasional flips into graphics mode could be explained by it. And indeed changing it out has solved the problems. Ctrl-G now sings beautifully  It was still glitchy though so I set about swapping out chips and the 3 clock related bods around IC44 were my best educated gu...

Re: YARRB

@Dace* - I've tried a couple of AtoMMC boards and they behave the same so I don't think it's a mechanical issue, but thanks for the suggestion. Further to that I undid the YARRB mods and swapped in my RAMROM and lo, the machine works perfectly. I can reliably run every program in the collection, the...

Re: YARRB

So after much probing and messing around I'm still a little stumped. I've checked jumper positions and clock waveforms and I'm happy they're in spec. No IRQ jumper is present. It's an R6502. I've changed the LS04 clock conditioner for a new chip even though the scope showed some nice clean signals. ...

So weirdness continues. This morning I thought I'd get some measuring done and lo, the machine is (almost) behaving itself. I've done nothing, it's in the same state I left it. Hi everyone. As another data point I've currently got a machine on the bench which is showing instability when YARRB is installed.
