Re: (Yet another) A5000 restoration

Good work. Hot air would have got it off without lifting pads - you can't really get surface mount components off with soldamop as it won't remove all of the solder underneath the legs...

Re: Cheap web-modem for the beeb/master (and arc if ya like!)

Random question, what was the telnet server for? Not really mentioned int the docs unless I missed something. Was this for some future expansion?, or came from code sniffled from somewhere? It was in the original software. Not documented as I never played with it. I'm fairly sure if you telnet into...

Re: SCSI2SD on the Victor 9000

Hello! No - I managed to get it to format, and set the label, but there were things that it wasn't quite doing properly, and it wouldn't partition (it was failing on some responses to some checks by the looks of things). The real problem (despite the guy who does scsi2sd being really helpful) was th...

Re: RiscPC600:battery leak

So, the CMOS IC could be dead, that's quite common after it's been pickled. The other bits that go are the fine tracks around the resistor packs/logic ICS next to the SIMM sockets - check those circuits too, and the connections back to the VIDC20.

Ergh... OK - the only other thing to change out (as you've said you have no test gear) is IC10? It's a 74LS259, and should be fairly easy to get hold of?

Re: What will stop ADI2 accessing DFS Track 0?

The driver installs weirdly in windows 7 and 10. Find the Bosa driver in devices (USB serial I think) and then update, have disk, point at the kryoflux driver directory.

Re: BBC B repair help

ICs 31 and 32 are immediately responsible for controlling ic 3 - I'm not saying replace, but can you check they're behaving as they should (not studied the schema long enough to work that bit out myself)? That's where I'd start looking at this point.

Just get a standard one:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232081793751

We can walk you through flashing it and pimping it!

You'll also need a USB A-A cable:

Re: Difficulties extracting zip / adf files to DOM

Fear not Nutter - pedantry sometimes appears. Asking is the right thing to do, and none of us are psychic (most of us are silly). BeebArc is indeed mentioned as something that can cope with archimedes disc images in many places. Alas I'm not sure how to use it. I really do recommend the gotek route ...

If I were you I'd invest in a couple of £12 gotek floppy emulators, then you can just dump the images on a USB stick and the beeb will treat it like a normal disk drive :)

Carry on here if you like - the GEM discs aren't a normal format. The first one is a strange hybrid ADFS format, the later ones are an 800kb acorn format (actually the same as the archimedes format) - however, the images are online: http://www.cowsarenotpurple.co.uk/bbccomputer/master512/system.html...

Touch wood, if you configure the arduino software as I specified in the wiki, it'll go on first time. I've programmed a couple for the first time recently and they've been fine. https://github.com/stardot/esp8266_modem/wiki/Firmware :)

Dave, just make a copy of the drive files on the SD card on your PC, and drop them back on if you bugger it up :) Don't worry about copying between LUNs on the 8bit machines :D
