Re: Going great guns on a Prince of Persia port...

Someone with more detailed knowledge will probably jump in, but I think PoP relies on the fact that in the Master you can write to the shadow screen memory even if it's not being displayed, whereas on the B+ you can only write to it if it's selected for display. That's the main difference between th...

Re: Likes / reactions

It's not part of the forum functionality unfortunately. There is a mod that does it, but (as we know), the more mods installed, the harder it is to keep the forum software up to date and it makes it harder to identify what's gone wrong if something breaks... Consequently we're generally rather loath...

You'll also need a quadrature mouse which plugs into the keyboard, or something like a smallymouse to do the conversion between USB and quadrature. Any archimedes keyboard will work with the A5000 - but whilst you're seeing if you can get it up and running, this might be a better idea? https://stard...

Re: A5000 board repair

Hi Simon, Usual advice would be to bring it along to an abug when they're up and running again. The problem with these is there can be quite a bit wrong and it can be quite involved to get to the bottom of what's died. When paying commercial rates, time = money, so if someone was charging their time...

Great to see some interest here! I remember the Nimbus BBC Basic port - it was pretty good too, and it's great that BBC Basic still seems to be in active development. Poor old RM Basic is dead as a doornail from what I can tell but I'm determined to bring it back! I don't remember if RM Basic on th...

Re: RM Nimbus Basic revival - any interest?

Excellent - RM BASIC was also used on the 380z and 480z - I'd guess the nimbus version was an evolution of it? (he says not having done any googling) Our nimbii at school mostly ran the nimbus port of BBC BASIC :)

I agree. However, I understand that the relative risks are much more marginal amongst the younger population, which is why - even in the UK - the the under 30s are now being offered an alternative to the AZ vaccine. Even with a cut-off at age 30, the JCVI are definitely erring on the side of cautio...

I wonder if the people that suffer from blood clots caused by the vaccine (and eventually died because of this) would have the same issues if they got caught by the covid-19 virus? (having read the rest of the thread) I take my hat off to Ottly for that re-creation. It really is quite an impressive piece of work! The PAL in the econet circuit gets the line turnaround timing right - which the Z80 SIO couldn't do with the exact same timing as the 6854. 380Z, HDFS and FDFS had a...

I'm just bumping this thread up the threading order - I was wondering if arg had seen it, seen the rather remarkable hand-built mdfs, and I wondered if there's actually an official schematic floating around that might be easier to read? :)

Likewise - I can happily use PS3 and PS4 controllers with my PC.

Desoldering Station is definitely worth it if you're going to be doing a bit of it. Many people on here use the duratool which is rather cheaper than the hakko and still yields excellent results: https://cpc.farnell.com/duratool/d00672 ... dp/SD01384
