Re: Wires? Pah.....

Anyway, all of the above is good news in practical terms and actually means it's a doddle to recover files from a physical WE DD disc using these UPURS DD utilities. Just make the image and then use an emulator to transfer the files to a standard DFS image :D You sir, are a legend! I shall hopefull...

Re: USB drives on TVs

It's not really a Linux thing - Linux has had the ability to read NTFS partitions for a looong time, and the write functionality has been stable for several years too. Fair enough, my *unix knowledge is quite rusty, the only reason i've used it at all in the last ten years has been as a web server....

Re: USB drives on TVs

Hi, I don't have much direct experience of connecting USB drives to TVs I have to admit... (does the TV have a USB socket? What make/model of TV is it? am curious!) However, from past experience, only Windows based computers can read NTFS - nearly all other devices can only access FAT/FAT32 partitio...

It's very nice and runs quite smoothly on my desire HD! It certainly feels responsive, very nice work. Can't wait for the sound issues to be ironed out! I particularly like the switching between keyboard and certain keys. Hopefully in the future there'll be the option for defining these yourself as ...

They downloaded fine for me :D Incidentally Lee, on the subject of UPURS, I haven't forgotten your WE DDFS request. If you've been following the thread, you'll know that V4 is about to be formally released and then we're onto some wish-list stuff and DD discs are on there. Not too long then  ...

Game Compilation Disks

Hullo peeps, I can't quite recall when or where I got these disks, I think it was probably sometime last year via an e-bay win maybe? They're certainly not disks I had BITD. Anyway, with thanks to Martin's UPURS system, I've been able to start transferring some of my disks over to the PC and I thoug...

Re: Wires? Pah.....

Yeah, DD is the problem. I use direct OSWORD $7F calls for the disc handling and hence bypass any features and functions specific to a particular DFS. By default, I set the 177x FDC to SD mode and consequently 1.54T can happily work with any SD discs. However, whack in a DD disc and the 177x can't ...

Then I turned my attention to my Beeb, with it's WE DDFS1.54T and the pile of DD discs I have. Read error! I'm assuming that thi...

Re: which computer version of exile is best and why?

Apparently most of the world is created procedurally (i.e. using a function which returns a particular map tile n for a given x,y position), so I fear this is probably barely possible. As it is, they must have spent days refining their algorithm until it produced a world they were happy with. Yeah,...

Re: which computer version of exile is best and why?

I really liked the EXILE demo version that was distributed with one of the magazines. It was called EXILE: THE SEARCH FOR FLUFFY and it was the entire EXILE game engine but with a much smaller level where the objective was to find Fluffy. The maps were completely different - there was lots of volca...

Unplug the Beeb from the USB-RS232 adaptor (but leaving the adaptor plugged into the PC) and on Hercules, open the port and send any file. You should see the xxxx/yyyy bytes sent box jump to something like 80/yyyy and then just freeze which is the PC waiting to for CTS to be asserted. Wait for abou...

No worries! The prolific cable, was just something I'd swiped from work on the off chance it'd work (and to save myself a couple if quid!). They can have it back!!
It makes sense that it is the cable that it is the weak link. I have no doubts it'll all work marvelously with a decent one! :)
