Re: Sorcery - Acorn Electron Version

I guess that settles it then. The inlay is for the Electron but the tape inside was marked BBC B. Maybe PACE made an Electron cover but put stickers on the outside box saying 'BBC ONLY' or some such, and somehow the inlay and that box became separated. So looks like there never was an Electron versi...

Re: Sorcery - Acorn Electron Version

Why yeah, so it does work on Elkulator now...! But yeah, what a crap game - so slow, and even if you speed it up so boring as to be practically unplayable. What an anti-climax. Clearly the code must be a little bit different to work on the Electron, as the original BBC version downloaded from bbcmic...

Re: Sorcery - Acorn Electron Version

Here is a .ssd image of the "Acorn Electron" version. It doesn't seem to work in Elkulator (I haven't tried it on a real Electron yet). It also seems to still have Mode 7 on the opening screen. The original tape works fine on a real Acorn Electron. I loaded it in and even posted some pics ...

Re: Personal Computer World scans!

On everygamegoing, do a search on personal computer world. The scans are in a format like this: https://www.everygamegoing.com/showMagazinePages/index/mag_issue_id/3256/ I could only scan the issues of the magazine I personally had. If someone directs me to somewhere where the rest of them are (or i...

Sorcery - Acorn Electron Version

I have an Acorn Electron version of Sorcery by Pace. I picked it up from eBay about three years ago - it truly seems to be one of a kind. The tape inlay is a proper Acorn Electron release - it's scanned on Everygamegoing, but the tape inside was labelled BBC B so I never knew until today whether it ...

Re: Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles World Tour

What an intriguing little find! I remember that the Turtles were really big when I was at school. In fact, I had an Electron long after many had moved onto Amigas and the TMNT arcade game was the talk of the playground. Mercury Games/Software Bargains still used to send me their catalogues and I rem...

Re: Acorn - A World in Pixels - new book

Mine arrived today. A real treasure trove... I seriously think you wouldn't have to be an Acorn fan to enjoy this book. It's got such a nice mix of articles, anecdotes, reviews and screenshots that I can imagine anyone could enjoy reading it. I will probably do a review of it on my site at some poin...

Re: List of Acorn/BBC related websites

Tons of stuff for the BBC, although you do have to search to find it. The scans are meant to link to the ad for the DVD but there are 13 complete issues, some of which feature reviews of Acorn Electron hardware, BBC stuff and a variety of BBC software. This is a good link to find most of the stuff: ...

Stratobomber By IJK For The Electron ON DISK

I was looking through my Elk games this week and I realised that the tape version of Stratobomber is protected (CTRL characters in the filename, likely a bit like Acornsoft protection). I seem to remember that, about 20 years ago, it was the only IJK software title that I therefore could not transfe...

Re: Maths With A Story 1 & 2 (BBC Micro Only)

Ah thanks, that's great. I've hacked in the original menu and it works just like the original.

The instructions for the Electron version are all available on the Everygamegoing website. I would *suspect* the BBC version is identical, just has some Mode 7 screens whilst loading the individual bits.

Re: Maths With A Story 1 & 2 (BBC Micro Only)

Yes, Maths With A Story 2 is the full version and contains all the loading screens, etc. The demonstration disc is exactly that. I've never seen that before, but it is demos of each of the four programs on Maths With A Story 1 and Maths With A Story 2. The utilities have been crippled so that many o...

Barbarian Controversy - Was It All Fake News?

Ok, bear with me... If we read old issues of The Micro User, Electron User, Acorn User and A&B, we are led to believe that Superior/Acornsoft's release of Barbarian was mired in controversy... But I want to ask a serious question... How often do we ever see a second-hand copy of Barbarian - the ...

Re: Buckaroo Banzai

I could use the graphics here: https://www.everygamegoing.com/litem/Buckaroo-Banzai/52112/ and convert them to Mode 5 equivalents. The question is whether the aspect ratio is correct for whatever it is that you already have. They would be, on a Mode 5 screen: 160 x 160 leaving twelve lines free at t...

Re: Buckaroo Banzai

I am so impressed really! In relation to the graphics, I have done a lot of loading screens and cover art slideshows on the BBC/Electron over the years. I might be tempted to create some nice handdrawn re-creations of the graphics from the C64 version in Mode 5 to complement the adventure if these w...
