Re: New adventure - Send in the Clones

I did download it, and it's on my list of games to play (along with Ravenwood) but I never find the time.

FREE: Acorn User 1985 12 issues

From a recent excellent Freegle collection of all sorts. I feel a little bad about disposing of them so soon after being so generously given them, but realistically they'll only go damp in the loft so better to re-donate them to anyone who wants them. Free for the price of Collect+ / Hermes, likely ...

Re: My new beeb - A to B? But why no analogue?

Right, thanks everyone. Replacing it will be beyond my skills! I will get the PSU done (though it does look ok to this novice) and see whether it powers on.

My new beeb - A to B? But why no analogue?

Back in the day I had an Issue 7 Model B (presumably in silicon heaven as I sadly sold it to fund an Amiga). Now I'm the proud owner of an Issue 3 ICL built model. My first impression of my new Beeb is that it is a Model A upgraded to B spec because 8 of the 16 RAM chips are clearly different. The R...

Re: Today I received.....

It has a Torch Computers DFS .9H (1983) which I've not heard of before. I'm intrigued, photos and ROM dump please :) Quick snap of the DFS and the other 4 ROMs. Will dump if needed when/if I get it up and running. It amuses me that the only beeb I now own is older than the one I had in the 1980s!

Re: Today I received.....

An ICL issue 3 Beeb, from a generous Freegler, serial number 003353. It has a Torch Computers DFS .9H (1983) which I've not heard of before.
No idea whether it works as it has the Astec AA11660 PSU and I don't know whether such a clumsy person as me should attempt the cap replacement!

Re: Poor manufacturing

It's the lightning cables that cost my household budget dear. They don't seem to stand up to any wear or tear, whereas the old style did, as do all variants of mini/micro usb/c for other devices.

Re: Electron versions of archived software

Okay, so next question: does anyone want any/all of these cassettes? Free for postage, obviously. Otherwise they'll only get stored in a cardboard box in the loft as I realistically won't have the time to do anything with them in the foreseeable.

Escape!

Published as a type-in game in Micro Adventurer magazine issue 7, 1984. "The program will work on the Vic 20 with expansion, on the Spectrum 48K, the Commodore 64, the Dragon, the BBC and most other computers that use Basic". I did not type this in, I found the listing elsewhere and have done nothin...

Re: Electron versions of archived software

No need to apologise. :) Maybe it is an Electron version, or someone modified the BBC version to run! I didn't want to put you off investigating it, but at the same time didn't want you to waste your time if it turns out just to be a bootleg BBC version. :) It didn't load in fully, but I can see th...

It would be nice to think that an Electron version of this exists, but perhaps it's just the BBC Micro version. I think it runs, but incredibly slowly.
Sorry :(

Re: Electron versions of archived software

There are a few more, plus several untitled. I'm having a hard time with the cassette deck heads on the unknowns. I successfully made a couple of good practice UEFs but now the tapes are getting chewed before the headers pass through. Hence me offering them out to the more knowledgeable. I do feel t...
