Re: Short and sweet prime numbers in Basic

Not neat, not clever, not quick, not elegant but this is what me and my son did together a few years ago to find the first 100 primes. He was around 10 years old and was keen to learn the basics (no pun intended) of programming. We added in line 80 when he realised that although the number was not p...

It's playable to the end, with no further manual lookup checks!

Super, let us know if you're able to complete the game and if so, whether there are any further checks along the way. Thanks Aran!
I've encountered a problem or two, but it looks like it will be possible to complete it. It will take me some time!

Re: Knight Orc (Level 9) ... yes, it actually exists!

Great! I don't suppose you have a save-state from shortly before the copy protection question kicked in? If so, could you replay it up to the same point, as it'd be useful to establish if the questions vary or whether the same question is repeated ... ? I absolutely do, 11 moves prior. When I reply...

As for the docs, there was one generic manual to cover all formats ... hopefully this will do the trick:
http://www.starehry.eu/download/adventu ... Manual.pdf

(In this instance, 'do' appears to be the word in question)
That works.

Re: Knight Orc (Level 9) ... yes, it actually exists!

Following the solution on CASA, I can get to the end of part 1 - THROW SPEAR - but then there is a manual lookup copy protection check. "What is the word at page 5, line 8, word 5?" See screenshot.

Re: Hmm.. was there ever an 8" floppy drive for the BBC?

Someone in my class at school in the mid 80s had 8-inch floppy drives rigged up to his; I think he said his dad had obtained them. I can't give any other details except I recall they were in a cabinet of some sort and were huge.

I'm looking forward to playing Aussie Suds when I return shortly from my hols, can anyone confirm please how many parts there were to it and how many parts have actually been archived ? Re: Alan Turing Worth Fifty Quid...

Looking to the positive, it wasn't that long ago that he was officially pardoned. So the timescale from being exonerated to being honoured on a banknote is quite astonishing, refreshing and welcome.

Random BBC listings from various multi-format magazines

A few months ago I was given two box files stuffed with BBC listings cut out from various multi-format magazines - Popular Computing Weekly , Your Computer etc. Attached is a catalogue of these and I will scan any listings that anyone would like to see. Yes, I'll gladly ship to France and I'll send you a price in a private message soon.
Obviously I can't guarantee:

a) they will work
b) they are actually for the DECmate/Rainbow just because that it what it says on the labels!

Free for postage: 5.25" floppies (DEC Rainbow 100 DECmate) GONE

I was given these as BBC floppies, however they are labelled as formatted for the DEC Rainbow 100 / DECmate / DECmate II. There are 13 in total (10 in sleeves) in a grubby hard box. Obviously it'd be great if they went to someone who could verify there's nothing of use on them that's of importance t...

UFO by P Vernon. Published in Popular Computing Weekly, 23 September 1982, page 19. This magazine clipping only survived because it has a BBC listing on the reverse side! A higher resolution scan could be provided.

Lee, I wondered the same.

Somewhere in those boxes of clippings I'm cataloguing/scanning there's a submission by an Ian Bell. Not necessarily that Ian Bell of course.
