Re: Vaccination Tales

My son had a 'vaccination bus' arrive close to his home in Nottingham and it was a walk-in system although some people had booked a shot. He was lucky and got one without an appointment. Mind you they only brought 45 vaccinations  so lots of people were disappointed. Me too, though luckily I...

Re: beebjit-0.9.5 release: a story in pictures

From the current High Score Challenge: https://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?p=318309#p318309 I think the more I play this game, the less I like it. I get a really weird glitch sometimes where when I do sharp turns, I go up in spite of the fact that I pressed down. It only happens for a fracti...

Re: beebjit-0.9.5 release: a story in pictures

I'm not sure how helpful this is but here it is. The video starts at 9:28 and the issue occurs at 9:32 - 9:33. It also happens around 9:42. I'm moving up and the release up key, briefly push left then push down but I move left then continue up. It only happens when I'm trying to do it very quickly s...

Re: beebjit-0.9.5 release: a story in pictures

I am better on real hardware though so there is a difference between emulation and the real thing. That's a really interesting difference. Any idea what it could be? Keyboard latency? Display latency? Cheers Chris No Idea! As Tricky said, some games I'm better at, some games I'm worse at, some I'm ...

Re: beebjit-0.9.5 release: a story in pictures

Just had a quick go of Frenzy which is a game I know very well and everything worked perfectly, certainly there was no noticeable difference to any other emulator or my experience of beebjit on better hardware. No crackles or clicks in any audio. I am better on real hardware though so there is a dif...

Re: beebjit-0.9.5 release: a story in pictures

Sorry about that. I've pushed a fix. I think the warning, in this case, is harmless. But it's definitely valid. Looks like your compiler version is cleverer than mine (what version is it, out of interest?) No need to apologise! The fix compiled perfectly, thanks very much. Gcc reports version 7.5.0...

Re: beebjit-0.9.5 release: a story in pictures

I built my daughter a desktop PC and she no longer uses her little laptop so I've nabbed it and stuck Lubuntu on it instead of windows 10 which absolutely crawled on it. Obviously the first thing I want to install is beebjit but it failed to compile giving the following message: Screenshot.png Its a...

Re: High Score Challenge Season 15 - Rd 9 - Kix

I might try to join in this round as last time we played it was picked immediately after Frenzy and while they look similar the gameplay is quite different and I struggled to get out of my Frenzy state of mind.
I love Frenzy, it's one of my all time favourites, so I should like this too.

Re: Looking for recommendations for a low('ish) cost gaming PC

I build a low cost (£80!) system for my daughter to play Minecraft and a few other games. I found a guy near Durham selling 1Gb AMD R5 240 graphics cards for £10 each. Not great by any means but enough for Minecraft and possibly better than on board graphics. Let me know if you want his details.

For those with enough sense to avoid playing Licensed to kill I've found a 1 minute clip of the electron version in the excellent 'Five games, five minutes.' series from everygamegoing.com here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdLvz6gACus&t=140s

Re: The BBC Micro chess championship.

Thanks for getting the move information from the video Ed. I didn't have much room on my desk last night for a pen and paper as my laptop was facing the PC monitor to show the game to the ABug. Round one is complete and round two will begin with Colossus chess Vs superior chess followed by White Kni...

The higher level yielded a very similar result so I've stuck with the level 7 video which had less pauses by me in it.

Re: The BBC Micro chess championship.

At the end of the game White Knight 12 had taken an emulated 17 hours and ten minutes thinking time compared to Micropowers 4 hours an 19 minutes. I'm considering upping the level on Micro power to see if it provides stiffer opposition.

Re: The BBC Micro chess championship.

White Knight 12 has a very similar interface to Colossus and so I'm going to set it up in the same way as I set Colossus. Off to test micro power chess now.
Micropower suggests level 7 will take 30 minutes per move which is what White Knight 12 is set to so I'll try that.

It sounds interesting but I can't see any way to start a BBC project. BBC support is recently added so maybe things will improve.

It was a pretty easy win in the end for Colossus. It's quite hard to pay attention to what is happening while entering moves as I find myself being distracted and missing a move!

Re: The BBC Micro chess championship.

So I finally got some time to myself today and managed to do some testing on Colossus Chess and BeebChess. BeebChess: Since it doesn't seem possible to make it play against itself I set it to the middle level and played a few moves myself. The levels work as follows - x.yy where x is the 'level' and...

Re: The BBC Micro chess championship.

I've done a small amount of testing with Superior Chess this morning. It's quite difficult to decide how to set the level with so many options that affect the time taken to make a move so I've decided to keep everything but the 'level' option at the default. With the level set to 6 it takes 8m 45s r...

Re: The BBC Micro chess championship.

I've just uploaded the raw 18 minute video for the Acornsoft testing here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31Ma5rLEMJA Level 8 took forever to make just two moves so I stopped it halfway through the video and replaced it with levels 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and 0. I'll take a look at it later today or tomorrow ...
