Re: High Score Challenge S11 - Championship Round - Chuckie Egg

Fantastic! Well done!
That's what makes the high score challenge so worthwhile. None of us would play these games 'seriously' if it wasn't for the challenge.

Anyone else competing for the low score?! :D
Once you get onto level 9 your score will shoot up. I found levels 9-16 easier than 1-8 and the bonuses are more generous too!

It could well have been JimRussell. He's not been on for a while but he's on the Facebook group as James Russell so you might have more luck finding him there.

Re: High Score Challenge S11 - Championship Round - Chuckie Egg

So after 3 or 4 scores of around 253k I finally got past lever 23 with only 3 lives remaining. I had 4-5 eggs left to get on level 24 so with a bit more practice and luck on 23 I should be able to better this.

Any hints or tips?

Re: High Score Challenge S11 - Championship Round - Chuckie Egg

My first and second goes. I think this is around the limit of my ability on this game without spending a long time practicing. I'd never played it until the comptetition introduced me to it, it was the second game we played in the first season. There are some amazing scores posted in that round. 218...

Re: Rom Cart / MMFS / Wiring/ Operation ????

The ABR has nothing to do with MMFS other than it holds the MMFS ROM. Read the command reference for MMFS and possibly the DFS manual to learn more about using the SD card. To get started try the following: *MMFS *DOP N 0 This should select the MMFS file system an insert the first free disk image. T...

Re: What are my options for BBC Master ROM Expansion?

You can loads ROMs into sideways ram. You could possibly add a switch to the swram jumpers allowing you to change ram to rom at the flick of a switch. Otherwise you are stuck with cartridges. Dave Hitchins does advanced rom adapters which take 2 16k ROMS or he also does advanced battery backed ram c...

Re: Rom Cart / MMFS / Wiring/ Operation ????

No. It has 511 disk image slots each of which is 200k and can hold 31 files each
16 GB should be fine as that's what I tested it with.

Re: Rom Cart / MMFS / Wiring/ Operation ????

Hey Sidney :) You make it sound so simple. So i can format the SD Card on a PC to fat 32 and then copy the beeb.mmb onto it but does this occur on the pc or on the electron ? Once the beeb.mmb file is on the card what does this do and what can i expect to happen next ? :) Yeaup Newbie Alert !! You ...

vanekp: the original plus 1 rom doesn't display anything. MMFS is displayed because the MMFS ROM is loaded into the ABR.

Re: Rom Cart / MMFS / Wiring/ Operation ????

If the MMFS title is there then all looks good. You now need to connect the SD card board to the printer port, since you've taken the wires off my diagram above isn't much use so you'll have to go back through the original thread to get the correct setup. Then you need to make sure the card is forma...

Re: Rom Cart / MMFS / Wiring/ Operation ????

The MMFS title would appear at boot without the sd card board connected to the printer port. It is irrelevant.
Was the packaging damaged or crushed in àny way?

Re: Rom Cart / MMFS / Wiring/ Operation ????

It should have 'just worked'. Looking at the manual if you insert or remove it when the power is on then data on it can become corrupted. Or plugging it in the wrong way wouldn't have been good either. I'll have a look tomorrow to see if I can write a quick program to test it and if it's not broken ...

Re: MMFS Query

Nothing. But you'd need a screen. So you might as well use a pc. I was thinking a pi zero is nice and small so some commands to list the files and initiate the transfer removes the need for a screen.

Re: MMFS Query

The only problem with UPURS is the need for a pc from which to send the files. An ideal solution would be a raspberry pi with some additional commands to list the files on the pi and initiate the transfer.

Re: Videos comparing BBC Vs electron versions of games

the elk version is harder, as when there is more than one ship on screen to shoot the elk 'slows' down, as the beeb has faster ram so can handle it (but you knew that  ) While I agree about the slow down being there I don't think that's the reason it's more difficult. I think the slow down wo...

Re: MMFS Query

I reckon you could do it with a pi zero connected to the user port. It would need a lot of software to be written though.
Hmm, maybe upurs connected to a pi zero? Still wouldn't be simple.

Videos comparing BBC Vs electron versions of games

I'm considering creating some videos comparing the BBC and electron versions of games. I've always felt that many games are very similar on each system with only subtle differences whereas some games play very differently indeed. I've started with Starship Command as I've mentioned at least once on ...

Cheers Phill.
I'd love one but I don't have time for the systems I've got at the moment. And our lass would kill me if I try to sneak another one in. She's still suspicious of the Amiga that suddenly appeared last year not to mention the two VGA monitors I came home with this morning.
Thanks anyway.

Re: ROM Cartridge ?

I've sent Dave a pm to see if we can get this tested before I post it out to you. There would be no point in posting it to you if it isn't going to work. I also found an Advanced Rom Adapter in my box of unused bits so if it turns out that the ABR is unsuitable you can borrow the ARA instead, you'd ...
