Re: Beeb Spotting

Every now and then I get interested in building a hackintosh and so I often end up with recommended videos about it. I really like the guy in this video so I clicked on it, imagine my surprise when an 'Acorn BBC' appears at 6:11.

Re: Gotek Floppy Drive wirting problem

I had this problem yesterday. How big is the disk image on the usb? A full size image is 200k, if your image is only 10k and you try to save an 11k program it's not going to work.

Re: Today I received.....

Last night I picked up a Motion Computing J3400 tablet. It has a core2 duo U9400 CPU with 2 GB of ram and a 64 GB SSD and the optional keyboard. There was no charger with it but I have a spare one that works. One of the batteries appears to be dead and Linux can't find the Bluetooth but other than t...

Re: Getting started with Exile...

There is a series of 22 videos on YouTube by Lord Triax showing a solution to the game. Try watching the first one or two to give an example of how to get started. Bear in mind he's following a solution and it probably takes him around 4 hours to complete the game. Playing exile without a solution i...

Re: What would a Master 128+ look like?

Remove Econet. Noo! I need the Econet. Removing it removes its entire functionality. It's a pain in the ****s doing development for the Elk purely due to being unable to grab files from the server that every other machine in the house can. I knew my views on Econet would be controversial! What woul...

Re: What would a Master 128+ look like?

Youtuber 'The 8-Bit Guy' is building a new machine around a 65816, based on the 8-bit Commodore machines. I'm aware of this but I quickly lost interest. I'll probably catch up with it later Alternatively, could your project be done in software using a Raspberry Pi? The Pi could be mounted inside an...

What would a Master 128+ look like?

With all the new hardware available for the Beeb a new machine with a lot of it built into the motherboard would be an interesting thing to think about. I've been mulling it over myself this morning. If you were designing the next machine in the 8 bit BBC range of computers what hardware would be in...

I never really gave this or Citadel a chance bitd so can't say much about the game.
I did meet one of the authors at a Wakefield RISCOS show a couple of years back. I'm sure he said him and his friends wrote it when they were still at school.

Re: Adding roms to a EEprom

If you put physical roms in a master you'd have to lose 64k of sideways ram. Much better to put them in a rom adapter or sideways ram adapter in the cartridge slots. Dave Hitchins sells the ABR which will has 2 slots of battery backed ram so 2 of those will allow you to add 4 roms which will be perm...

Re: Fitting external upgrades internally

My worry is that the self adhesive fails and the gotek falls onto the motherboard. I bought similar things for routing a wire in my car and the self adhesive was terrible, I ended up removing the pad and using super glue.

If you Google retrobrite you'll find out how to make it. There is a product called bblonde which is for making hair blonde which is just as good as retrobrite. Boots often have it on offer.

Hard disk installation of new games.

I've recently got my beebscsi installed and so set about installing some games. I've only briefly tried out the following so simple fixes may exist. I installed Stunt car racer and it works very well with the exception of saving/loading. I presume the game is hard coded to use DFS? If not any ideas ...
