Re: STH incomplet copy of Uridium by Hewson

I have actually left it on the server here it just doesn't appear in the indexes. I suppose I could upload your fixed version in place of the original (and append a -HACKED_B.uef suffix, to indicate that it isn't fully sourced from an original tape?). That is also an option I guess as it seems to w...

Re: Non-working floppy drive

Does the head carriage move up and down freely (taking into consideration the resistance the stepper motor put on it)?
a lot of carriages get very stiff as the lubrication drys up and they get a build up of dirt on them.

another bump to see if anyone has a working complete copy of this BBC tape as the STH copy (https://www.stairwaytohell.com/bbc/arch ... dium_B.zip) is incomplete.

I posted this awhile back when I was having problems trying to understand the BBC RAM layout and to try to make it simpler to track down a faulty RAM Chip maybe it will help you.

Re: Discbeast, new disc and archival utility -- NEED VOLUNTEERS

1) Work out if a disc is a 40T or 80T surface. ... Of the above steps, 1) is a bit annoying. I don't know how reliable it would be if I tried to automate it. Actually, looks like it is possible to automate 40 track vs. 80 track disc detection reliably. The discbeast download earlier in the thread h...

Re: Discbeast, new disc and archival utility -- NEED VOLUNTEERS

Is there a way of erasing a disc with discbeast ? Depends what you mean by "erase". I believe you're running with a 1770 so one thing you can do is write a track with no sector markers, i.e. BFIL &FF WTRK This uses the 1770 write track facility. The resulting track will give you Disc error 18 (no s...

Re: Discbeast, new disc and archival utility -- NEED VOLUNTEERS

Thanks. Some good news here: it's easy to calculate the 40 track CRC32 from an 80 track dump, so I have added this. e.g. on your TRKS files it now says: HFE Grab version: 0 Tracks: 81 Single sided Captured with: 1770 Drive speed: 3133 Disc CRC32: 515BA8F4 Disc CRC32 (40 track): D309CAA6 The process...

Re: Discbeast, new disc and archival utility -- NEED VOLUNTEERS

Yeah, yours is definitely an 80 track surface. Mine is definitely a 40 track surface. I have found most dual 40/80 discs appear to be recorded 40 track, with the "in-between" tracks reading as noise, shadows and errors. A good way to check is to use an 80 track drive + single-step "DSTP 0" discbeas...

for some floppy drives you need to set the keyboard jumper correctly for the step rate/time.
see here http://chrisacorns.computinghistory.org ... emUGI2.pdf pg 9

oh and pg 104 gives info for diffrent drive types.

Re: Discbeast, new disc and archival utility -- NEED VOLUNTEERS

I was sure I used the DSTP 1 command but I cant be 100% sure anymore so I may have made a mistake, sorry for the trouble. I've noticed that it's easy to occasionally type 'DSTEP 1' instead of 'DSTP 1'. The utility replies 'DSTP 1' when it successfully parses the correct command, but even so it's ea...

http://beebwiki.mdfs.net/CRC-16 XMODEM and Acorn CFS/RFS files have a 16-bit CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check). The following code calculates these CRCs. I have put all my work together here so other people can use it. The XMODEM CRC is CRC-16 with a start value of &0000 and uses a polynomic of &1021. T...
