Re: Need some electronics advice...

I would try the diode across the solenoid and capacitors that where suggested, as the relay already has the protection diode.
so either its the back surge from the solenoid causing a problem or overloading of the 5v when the solenoid is activated.

It's not clear from his write up, some photos would help as the block diagram tells you nothing.

Looking at your 1st picture (if that's the same as your system) it looks like there is already a diode across the solenoid on the printed circuit board.

Re: Master floppy interface not working

is the DFS ROM enables and does it show the DFS when you switch on the master "Acorn 1770 DFS"
couple be if the master has been laying for so long that the battery is flat for the CMOS and it's lost its settings, would also check it has not leaked out onto anywhere.

Re: BBC Micro MMC Card adapter - compatible cards

I was trying to work out why I have DFS and UTILS twice. Presumably it is because they exist on two different ROMs? Having now identified which ROM is which, I see that 0.A2 is a reference to the MMC ROM. DFS1.20 is therefore the Acorn DNFS ROM. Since the MMC ROM is to the right of the Acorn DFS RO...

DFS explorer is good but if you change pc or OS it wont run as full version anymore which is a bit of a pity is its registered to the pc/OS where you generated the registration code.

Re: BBC Micro MMC Card adapter - compatible cards

I had a problem that some cards wold not work but after formatting them with the SDFormatter they worked fine, the only other funny I have come across is if you copy the BEEB.mmb within windows onto a SF card that already has one it does not always work in the BBC I think the file ends up getting sp...

Re: BBC Micro MMC Card adapter - compatible cards

I also attach a photo of my MMC card and the ROM sockets area of the PCB. The MMC ROM is clearly visible., I'm not sure what the other ROMs are but they are Acorn branded. Anyone know what they are? “PB04” for OS 1.20 The BASIC ROM is labelled “PB01” or “PB05”. '00201666-03 and -01' are both Acorn ...

should have worked with CH."" as well must be something a bit dogie with the 1st bit of your tape.
I have my wav files on my smart phone tablet or ipod and play then from there 100% loading every time :)

Re: Repton 2 - Cassette Version - LOCKED

as long as you are CH."REPTON2" file it should load as that is a basic program loader for the rest, but if its having a problem with the 1st block and it skips it will tries to load the "?" file then it going to give a locked message as that file is locked on the tape.

Re: Pulling a bad tooth out (BBC UHF modulator)

May be worth checking your power supply especially the capacitors, if they are faulty it could introduce noise on the +5v and cause all sort of problems.

Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ and seems to run fine on a 2A PSU and from what I read it uses less power than the older models, and its the peripherals that use more power and the Pi can only supply up to 2A.

what noise are we talking about here, I have not heard any constant noise while the emulator is running, only noise is the tape or disc noise if you have them turned on.

Re: BBC B Micro Power Supply - okay if run unloaded?

it is possible as I see that C19 is the main smoothing capacitor for the +5v.
Why does the BBC not boot up anymore?
I would replace the cap check the outputs for the correct 5V out and check on AC to see if there is not too much AC ripple on the voltages.

Re: BBC B Micro Power Supply - okay if run unloaded?

Electrolytic capacitors with age do tend to leak and in your case seems to have corroded the one leg completely.
Its always a good idea to give all the electrolytic capacitors a look over for bulging on the top and or leaks at the bottom of the caps as in this photo.

Re: BBC B Micro Power Supply - okay if run unloaded?

Does not say anything in the service manual about testing it off load, but in my experience you need to put some sort of load on it as with no load the voltages would be way out of tolerance.

Re: Looking for PC analogue/Gameport to BBC analogue port joystick diagram.

Basically it is showing a rewiring of the potentiometers to that they are wired from vref and the other side to ground and the center connector the joystick output. ans normally the one one is floating and not used for pc use.
