Re: MMFS Version 2
Yes the naming convention is very confusing I agree. I have gotten confused myself, until I realized that "MMFS2" was originally the version of MMFS (with .MMB file) using an alternate address for the SD card device. Is there not something we can do to fix it? The short filenames of DFS ar...

Re: MMFS Version 2
I am guessing this only works with the Windows version of BeebEm? I think BeebEm itself can be built for Linux, but not sure if there is any support for "mmbeebXL".

Re: SixtyClone
The silkscreen on the board seems to be wrong. If the outline represents the shape of the transistor body, the emitter ('E') is on the wrong side. I think they messed up. If you have the schematic you should be able to deduce the correct orientation using a multimeter to trace where those pads conne...

Re: MMFS Version 2
If there is a version of MMFS/MMFS2 which works on some sort of emulated SD card that would be very handy for debugging. Up until this point I have been doing all my testing and debugging on the actual Beeb, but it would be handy to be able to set breakpoints and watchpoints in an emulator, dump all...

To follow up on my own post ... It seems the SSD images with names ending in 'I' are 'Installer' disks, and are not to be used directly.

I feel like I must be being extremely dense, but I am still having trouble making much sense of things. I followed this link ... https://www.retro-kit.co.uk/user/custom/Acorn/3rdParty/Hybrid/software/HybridApps.zip and grabbed the ZIP file which contains 11 SSD files. For some reason most of them ha...

Music 5000 Software
Wondering where I can find a copy of the floppy disks that came with the Music 5000. I have been playing with the two floppy images which are packaged with B-Em, but there seem to be missing files and some stuff does not work as expected. Is there a clean copy somewhere, I wonder?

Not sure where I grabbed this from originally, but this is the DFS manual with the DFS 2.10 addendum (at the front.)

Re: MMFS Version 2
Looking at my PDF of the DFS user manual, *FREE and *MAP are listed in a separate addition as "DFS 2.10-only Commands". The addendum marked 'March 1985 0403 700 Issue 2 Addendum 1 (0403 703)' for what it is worth. Other commands which were apparently introduced in DFS 2.10 are *CLOSE , *EX...

Re: MMFS Version 2
Ah yes, *FREE and *MAP are indeed implemented. I didn't notice they weren't in the doc. I actually use these two quite a bit so I would be reluctant to remove them. As far as I am aware these are standard commands in DFS also (and ADFS too.)

Re: Does anyone still use the Beeb on a dialy basis?
I don't (yet) use the Beeb on a daily basis, but I do use my Apple //e for email (Gmail) and Usenet, with my self-written software. That machine gets fired up most days to read messages :) I also use the Apple II for writing documents for work (later imported into Word or Google docs), and I have us...

Re: Raspberry Pi 400
Haven't tried with a USB stick but I do have RiscOS dual-booting sharing an SD card with Raspbian. The trick is to install using NOOBS and select both operating systems. It has a nice boot menu to select the OS.

Hi Ken -
I can confirm that the Pi1Mhz is still working. I am powering it from the Tube port pins 29 and 31. That is good news anyhow!

Re: Trying to work out what I busted (Pi1Mhz/PiTubeDirect)
It is both the 5V and the ground tracks that vaporized! I think the other tracks are okay based on a visual inspection.
I will test the 1MHz shifter taking power from elsewhere and see that it still works. That one looks fine visually.

Re: Trying to work out what I busted (Pi1Mhz/PiTubeDirect)
OK, some more findings before I take out the dogs and finally go to bed. I tested the Tube connector with my multimeter. There is 5V on the Tube connector (still.) If I unplug the cable between the Tube level shifter and the 1MHz level shifter then I get a green LED on the Tube Level shifter (with t...

Re: Trying to work out what I busted (Pi1Mhz/PiTubeDirect)
Well it is bedtime here. I will continue diagnosis tomorrow. It certainly looks like there are power problems on the Tube port given I get no red LED on that level shifter. JP1 is made. Hypothetically if one did short 5V on the Tube port, what would bear the brunt of it I wonder? There doesn't appea...

Re: Trying to work out what I busted (Pi1Mhz/PiTubeDirect)
If no Pi is plugged into the Tube level shifter, should either of the LEDs light up? If so, then we know where to start looking, cos neither LED is illuminated. It seems odd that with the Pi I apparently have neither LED illuminated on the 1MHz. I have tried 1Mhz and Tube separately, and swapped Pis...

Oh weird - without the Pi I get the red LED (sorry can't read the component numbers -- eyesight not good enough!) If I have the Pi installed I get neither LED.

Re: Trying to work out what I busted (Pi1Mhz/PiTubeDirect)
It's not lighting up with the Pi installed either. The LED on the 1MHz board lights up regardless of whether or not there is a Pi installed.

Re: Trying to work out what I busted (Pi1Mhz/PiTubeDirect)
I assume D2 on the 1MHz shifter is an LED? It is not lighting. The LED on the 1Mhz one lights up though.
Do you happen to have a schematic of the level shifter so I can try to figure out what is going on?

Re: Trying to work out what I busted (Pi1Mhz/PiTubeDirect)
I was pretty careful not to misalign the Pi GPIO, cos I know that will fry things. That was my reasoning for trying the PiTubeDirect Pi in place of the 1MHz one, just in case I had fried the Pi Zero ... but that made no change. (Also the Pi Zero boots Pi1Mhz and shows HDMI output when I start it up ...
