Torch C-Series "label printer"

I thought this looked interested and probably none exist in Australia - would be an interesting refurb. project. As an integrated desktop system, the computer included a colour monitor and twin 5.25" floppy disk drives and a modem for connection to remote data. One of the above pictures shows a...

Solidisk STL Mini Cartridge

I've got a Mini(R) Cartridge and two different types of ROM socket cards.

The one on the right had a bunch of junk on it, which I've stripped as it was a mess of chips on top of chips and wires everywhere.

Not really sure about them.

Continuous tone on boot

I did a search for "ic72" and didn't get a match. Was sent a dead Model B to look at - was working, something went "pow" and then it just gave continuous tone on boot. I think a SCSI drive may have been connected via the 1MHz port. Went through all the usual suspects with a logic...

Added 8-pin DIN socket for RGB output

Hello - a little late to the discussion about video output, but ... I'm using a CGA-to-VGA converter box from Microbee Technology here in Australia - I've just got it working on my Enterprise 128. https://microbeetechnology.com.au/vga-video-converter.htm I'm also using the box with the Commodore 128...

Re: BNC socket

This is what I've ended up doing now. [1] Remove the BNC socket and drill out the hole to 12mm. [2] Solder the right-angled RCA socket onto the board - need to drill out ... very carefully as it runs next to a track ... the front GND hole. Then really solder the socket on for mechanical strength. I ...

Re: BBC Model B Issue 7 not booting

Interestingly, after running fine for quite a few hours yesterday and today it suddenly hung - I like to run Robotron from ROM as it has a continuous demo mode. Pressing on IC5, the Teletext character generator, restores it. And it seems I have to do this after powering off: switch it on again, cont...

Can you swap 6502 and OS ROM into a known working Beeb? Then you'd know whether these were working OK.
Ahh, that was it - swapped in another 6502 and it booted. Thanks John.

Dead OS chip?
Dah, I had reseated it but hadn't tried swapping it! Just tried two different original OS chips (not EPROMs), one known working, and no difference unfortunately.

BBC Model B Issue 7 not booting

Hi, I've been puzzling over this one for a few days, reading dozens of different discussions. I'm not sure where to go to next - it seems the CPU is stalled due to SYNC & IRQ' ... ? On powering up I get continuous tone, no display. I've tried reseating all the socketed chips, and have replaced b...

Re: BBC Micro Power Supply advanced repair

I've found a "local" (i.e. Australian) supplier (Wiltronics) for the BU508A which comes in the same TO-3 case as the BU208A to make the switch easier, so let's see ... it's coming from regional Victoria to regional NSW ...

Re: BBC Micro Power Supply advanced repair

On one electronic suppliers site, a BU508AW is shown as an alternative to the BU208A. Please note that I have not compared the relevant data between these transistors. So please do your own checks before buying and fitting. Thanks Mark. I put this PSU aside for a while and have now come back to it....

Beeb keyboard types

Hi, How many different types of keyboards are there, and what do we call them? I've encountered three different types down here in Australia, and definitely have my favourite. I'm tempted to think the better quality ones are the earlier ones, whereas the worse ones (in my opinion) are the later, cos...

Re: BNC socket

I ended up using the black one (Mouser p/n 568-NYS354). I drilled out the ground holes to 2.5mm - the front pin won't reach so bent it forward a bit and then just dumped lots of solder on it from either side to make a connection. Seems to work - image is a bit noisy so will need to troubleshoot the ...

Re: BBC micro Watford Electronics DDFS support chips

Hi,

Does anyone know if the link between pins 1 and 4 in IC86 is required for the DDB2 board? It's currently unpopulated. The DDB3 instructions say to put a link in there.

Thanks

I realised that the additional 5V output could be used to power a Gotek.

Re: Recommended BBC Model B upgrades

I've been doing Mark @ RetroClinic's cheapo ROM socket upgrades on all my Beebs as it's pretty simple. http://www.retroclinic.com/acorn/swr/swr.htm Cuttin' a few tracks and soldering (or sodering if you're American) a few wires and you've got four "native" ROM sockets that take up to 64KB ...

Re: BNC socket

In terms of using the modulator phono socket, just desolder the two existing wires going into the modulator from the Beeb PCB. Tuck them into a position were they can’t short out to anything else. Inside the modulator, desolder the resistor lead that goes to the centre pin of the phono socket and p...

I just remove the BNC and the wires and use RGB to SCART  I wholeheartedly agree! The composite output really sucks compared to the RGB, but for the ones I refurbish for new homes, they might not have something that can use RGB straight away - SCART is that "weird European plug" an...

Re: BNC socket

I've been wondering the same - maybe there wasn't something in the 80's but what about 40 years later? The RCA connector of the RF modulator is fine, why not something similar for the composite video? I guess they were originally going for something like this? https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/...
