Re: BeebIt system modules.CLib not found

Assuming you're running RISC OS 3 on the A3000: There's a "System Resources" download at https://www.riscosopen.org/content/downloads/common (filename "PlingSystem.zip") which contains a 32-bit CLib in !System.310.Modules It should be enough to copy just that one file rather than install the entire ...

Re: Connect to MacOS share

Moonfish: The directory needs to be shared as /Public not Public - with that change it should work.

Re: Connect to MacOS share

It's odd that you couldn't get Moonfish to work. Here's a run-down of what I did. On RISC OS: Start Moonfish and select-click on the Moonfish icon to display the Exports window Add the "Public" directory; export as /Public (Optional) Allow connections only from 192.168.0.0/24 (or your local subnet i...

Re: Connect to MacOS share

You part-answered the question, but here is my answer anyway. unumask: Specifies the minimum Unix permissions for files transferred to Unix. Default 0600 (always set "user read" and "user write"). umask: Specifies the (inverted) RISC OS permissions to transfer. Default 022 (transfer everything excep...

Re: Connect to MacOS share

I suggest you persevere with MoonFish: I got that working with both macOS 10.14 (Mojave) and macOS 10.15 (Catalina). The Mac is the client instead of the server, but it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick...

Re: Filer Window Sizes

I just checked the configuration options on RISC OS 4.39 - there isn't any such option. I think the best you can manage is to create an Obey file with the necessary Filer_OpenDir command in it and pin it to the Pinboard.

Re: OS Call for *SETTYPE

In case you were wondering: If the load address matches the exec address, RISC OS treats it as a load/exec address. If the first three hex digits are anything other than FFF, RISC OS treats it as a load/exec address. To spell it out: If the first three hex digits are FFF, RISC OS usually - but not a...

Re: issues softloading riscos 5 on riscpc

I agree with Ian. The IOMD version of RISC OS 5 exists primarily for use on emulators, where it puts in a respectable turn of speed. Load it on a real Risc PC and you will be extremely disappointed with its performance. If you want to persevere with RISC OS 5: Your message suggested you were using t...

Re: why does mode 2 on the bbc micro use 160x256 instead of 256x160 pixels?

The BBC Micro was designed for use with a 625-line TV set, which meant that the vertical resolution was more or less fixed at 256 pixels. You may notice that all of the other graphics modes (0,1,4,5) also use 256 pixels vertically.

Re: Application directories as ZIP files, but still 'runnable' despite being archives..

This feature was introduced in SparkFS 1.19, although to begin with you had to edit the !Run file to activate a module (ImageFSFix). By SparkFS 1.41 (20 Oct 2004) it had become the default behaviour.

Re: Historic Migration Path from 8bit to Arc?

The Archimedes A300 came with 6502Em, which allowed BBC Micro software to run. If you could afford it there was also a ROM podule so you could install BBC ROMs. I fitted an external 5.25" disc drive to my A310 so I could transfer the BBC discs. As far as I can recall the "DFS reading" software came ...

Herewith the RISC OS 2 version, complete with CLib.

Please note this is an older version of SparkPlug (2.23) as I couldn't get SparkPlug 2.26 to run under RISC OS 2.

Re: Sparkplug (self-extracting version)

The reason I was thinking of separate versions for RO2 and RO3 relates to CLib. For RISC OS 2, you must have CLib, as the version in ROM is too old. For RISC OS 3, you don't need CLib, as the ROM already contains a suitable version. My plan was be to bundle CLib alongside !SparkPlug, and write the i...

Sparkplug (self-extracting version)

Since I was responsible (if that's the right word) for packaging SparkPlug into a self-extracting format some 25 years ago, it seems appropriate that I should answer the call for a self-extracting SparkPlug that doesn't look for !System on startup. This version is designed to run on RISC OS 3. It sh...

Re: Updating RiscPC System for Networking - Need Advice

For the record, I've had problems using the Acorn 3.70/3.71 disc images on 3.5/3.6 - you don't get a full Universal Boot, only the 3.7 components. You'll need to find a full Universal Boot from somewhere: I've seen copies on Acorn User CD8 and the May 1998 Acorn Developer CD. Alternatively, it's ava...

If you can't find it anywhere else, it's hiding inside !Boot.Resources.!System.350.Modules.Network on the "Nightly Beta HardDisc4" archive on the ROOL website: https://www.riscosopen.org/content/downloads/common Be sure to grab the .ZIP version of the archive, as the self-extracting version won't un...

Actually I'd be interested in a scan of those pages from the Level 4 Fileserver Network Manager's Guide. The only version of the guide I've been able to track down was Acorn part number 0484,021 (issue 1, 1992) which doesn't mention MailMan at all. As a result, my software information page for MailM...

Acorn User: Nearly all of the cover discs - and all subscriber discs from April 1990 onwards - appear on the first nine Acorn User CDs (that's AUCD1 to AUCD9 inclusive). The first Archimedes item appeared on the February 1998 subscriber disc, so if you have the CDs you'll be missing roughly 28 of th...

It's called !Squiggly. It was written by Stuart Cupit in 1989.

If you have access to the Arcade BBS file archive, it's file number 001841 in area 41 (Acorn 32-bit graphics).

Arcade BBS is now sadly offline, but there's a copy on the Wayback Machine.
