Name / Type of Connector on Model B Internal Speaker?

Just for reference: am I correct in stating that the connector used for the BBC Model Bs' internal speaker (PL15 on the PCB) is a JST RCY connector?

OK. Cheers. I'll go and take some photos and make notes of the make / model/ serial no, etc. and put them up on here.

Re: Successful Repair of A3000 (Battery Removal)

I've attached a photo of the area here:

AFAIK: nothing got onto the board, itself, so I only applied the alcohol to clean off the sticky pad and dirt.. However, if you think it needs some vinegar on it, I'll go and do that.

Akhter Plinth Floppy Drives

Re. Akhter Plinth Floppy Drives: Can anyone tell me if these are easy to service? Mine came with the Master 128 I bought from a work colleage, over 20 years ago (non eBay purchase), and they worked fine when I last used them - c. 2001! :D Obviously, now, they don't, so I'm assuming drive belts need ...

Re: Successful Repair of A3000 (Battery Removal)

Thanks, Kazzie. I've had a quick look through your thread, and the battery damage I had on mine was nowhere near like the one on your example, as it was only a bit on one side of the battery, itself. So, I was *very* lucky to have caught it in time; even more so, when you consider I'd bought it as '...

Successful Repair of A3000 (Battery Removal)

Hello All, I've got some good news today (at least it is for me). I've just got an A3000 I bought from eBay as 'spares / repairs' (ie. not working) fully working again! I've already got a refurbished A3000 (bought from 4d Pi Shop on eBay), but it came with no accessories! So, I bought this one as it...

Re: What disks / software came with the A3000?

Here are some discs from my box: IMG_20200805_1439326.jpg The upper two are RISC OS 2 discs, whereas the lower ones are for RISC OS 3. The black disc is a High Density one, and is large enough to carry all the applications that required two DD discs (for RISC OS 2). The A3000 is, of course, fitted ...

Re: What disks / software came with the A3000?

OK. Thanks for the above info. and the links. AFAIK: Mine has been upgraded to RISC OS 03, as it says that on the 'splash' screen on boot-up. So, I'm presuming the A3000 originally came with RISC OS 02 on board, with 2 App discs and 1 Support disc. Is that correct? If so, can anyone reply with a lin...

What disks / software came with the A3000?

Hello, I've recently bought a refurbished A3000. Works fine, but it didn't come with any discs. I understand that oiriginally, it came with 'Application' and and 'Support' discs? Is that right? No 'Welcome' disc? Please can anyone tell me how many discs were there, and what was on them? Anything of i...

UPDATE: The Chip Seller has refunded me for the faukty Serial ULA! :D

Also: I asked the eBay seller if he'd be willing to go halves with me on the repair bill. He agreed, and he's paid me, too! :D

So, A BIG THANKS to the above for being true gents! Restores my faith in Humanity! =D>

Re: NEED JOY STICK

If it's any use to you, I have a spare Voltmace. I was only using it the other day when I got my BeeB back from RetroClinic.

If you're interested, I'll plug into the back on my Master 128 to see if it fits OK without clashing with the RGB socket.

Re: Model B - possible faulty cassette interface?

The BeeB is now fully working - thanks to Mark at RetroClinic! :D Turned out the Serial ULA I purchased, was duff! Mark replaced it with is own. He found a few other issues (caps, etc.) as well. I contacted the firm I purchased the Serial ULA from (PM me if you wish to know who it was). They respond...

Re: Model B - possible faulty cassette interface?

Using your multimeter on the 200 ohms resistance range can tell you. Connect one probe to the metal part of the plug nearest the larger cover/moulded section (cable end) and the other probe on either the tip or the ring contact. By connecting both the left hand and right hand earphones/headphones i...

Hello again, Re. sound through the speaker: It does this on my other Model B (which has just been repaired by Mark at RetroClinic), and the cassette interface on that worked perfectly. Re: Model B - possible faulty cassette interface?

Sorry - been busy this week. Update: Inserted IC7. Motor lights now works! I get the "RECORD then RETRUN" message when saving. If I connect the MIC lead to a speaker and save a test program, I can hear those sweet tones. I can even hear them coming through the Beebs speaker when attempting to load (...

Re: Model B - possible faulty cassette interface?

OK. I've just opened up my Beeb to examine ICs 7 & 35, and I took a photo (see attachment) Now, call me Lord Thick Of ThickHeadShire, but, unless I need to visit SpecSavers very soon, I can see what the problem is... THERE IS NO IC7!!! Please can someone confirm? Am I looking in the right place? If ...

Yes, the chips have all arrived.

Re: Model B - possible faulty cassette interface?

Hello Again, Thanks to everyone for the advice. I've taken the measurement. If I've done it correctly, it reads -5.25V. Is that good / bad? What's the next step? Re: Model B - possible faulty cassette interface?

OK. Thanks to everyone above for their advice. However, some of it has gone 'over my head' as my knowledge of electronics is *limited*, I'm afraid! @ stephen_usher: please can you explain how exactly I go about checking the -5v? I presume I would need a multimeter, set to measure voltage? If so, whe...

Re: Model B - passible faulty cassette interface?

Ok. Thanks for that.

The Seller has responded and advised me the fault may lie with IC35 - LM324 OP Amp, and a simple 'chip swap' may do the trick.

Can anyone here confirm this? If so, I'll go ahead and try it.

Model B - possible faulty cassette interface?

Hello, I recently bought a Model B (Issue 7) from eBay, with GoTek drive. All was working well, until I tried loading in a program from cassette. The Beeb just ignores it. I've tried both cassette recorders with the 3 pin leads and my Acorn data recorder with the DIN plug. On the Acorn data recorder...

SUCCESS! Thank you all for your help. I've discovered what the problem was, and I'm kicking myself for it! Having said that, the drive did not come with a manual. I re-checked the floppy drive connector. It was in the correct way round (it does, indeed, have a notch on it). The pins on the Master en...

Help needed with Master 128 & Cumana Disk Drive

Hello everyone, My first post on here. I would be very grateful if someone could help me out with a problem I've got with my setup. Many years ago (1999?), I bought a Master 128 from a work colleague. It all worked fine, at the time, but I never had the time to do much with it, so it was put into st...
