How to back up a cassette's program?

I'm using a program from cassette that seems to be getting harder to load ("Data?", "Block?", etc.) each time I use it... I'd love to make a clean/perfect copy of the program onto a new cassette. Is it possible to access the code loaded from the cassette and then resave it onto another cassette - or...

Just popping back with a quick thank you.

I got the wiring sorted thanks to your post, Martin.

I had just got wires 2 and 3 the wrong way round.

Wiring diagram for BBC B RS232 to 25-pin serial?

I'm trying to connect up my BBC B to my old ham radio packet radio TNC (a Kantronics KAM). I couldn't find my old lead, so I'm trying to make a new one, but I'm not have any luck so far. I found these two diagrams online: https://mobilewebexpert.co.uk/ham/wiring_1.png and https://mobilewebexpert.co....

Re: What cable do I need for my new cassette recorder?

The 7-pin to 5-pin one I ordered had to go back!... Instead, I ordered a 7-pin to MIC/REM/EAR which seems to work nicely with my new Steepletone recorder. Got there in the end! :-)

Re: BBC B 32K - Incorrect characters displayed on screen

Just a quick post to thank everyone for their help. Got the job finally finished tonight - hence, I'm up till 3am playing Football Manager!! :-) BTW, my technique for cleaning the keys didn't work that well in the end as they stopped working after a while. I ended up having to desolder and dismantle...

Re: Amateur Radio use of old 8-bit machines

Just wondering if anyone can help me out here. I'm trying to get back on packet radio with my old BBC B, but I no longer have the software and can't find any on the internet. Does anyone on here have/know of any packet radio software for the BBC micro?

Cheers,
James

Re: BBC B 32K - Incorrect characters displayed on screen

Quick post regarding the keys not working. I imagine my keys are in a much worse state than is usually encountered. Have seen vids on how to desolder keys, then dismantling them - inc. breaking them... However, even with my extremely stubborn keys, I've found that using contact cleaner (£5 from loca...

Re: What cable do I need for my new cassette recorder?

That's very good to know, thank you! The cable I ordered arrived today but turns out the 7-pin DIN of my tape recorder are spade terminals rather than round terminals, so still can't connect the two. Have ordered this one -https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2F...

What cable do I need for my new cassette recorder?

So, I have a 7-pin DIN at the back of my BBC B 32K, labelled "cassette". I've just bought a Steepletone SCR 805 cassette recorder from eBay, which has these ports on the side: PHONE - 3.5mm DIN - 5-pin EXT MIC - 3.5mm MIC REMOTE - 2.5mm https://mobilewebexpert.co.uk/temp/20200305_232554.jpg Any idea...

Re: BBC B 32K - Incorrect characters displayed on screen

Kazzie and eelco108, Thanks for the latest replies. I've put a post in the Wanted section now: https://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=18831 When I'm removing the old IC, to minimise chances of damage, what sort of temperature should I set my soldering iron at? And, yes, it does seem to be...

Re: BBC B 32K - Incorrect characters displayed on screen

Quick update. I just removed jumper S25 and the computer started fine, showing 16K. So does this confirm IC54 needs replacing, or should I first try resoldering the joints around it? Also, I still have a few keys that just won't come to life (Y, D, G, X, 2, 6, DOWN_ARROW, LEFT_SHIFT and RIGHT_SHIFT)...

Re: BBC B 32K - Incorrect characters displayed on screen

Kazzie, I moved jumper S25 to the south position, then turned the computer on and I got a long continuous beep (rather than the usual two beeps). I then turned it off then on again, and I got a single beep made up of various tones. I put S25 back to north and so now things are back as per my origin...

Re: BBC B 32K - Incorrect characters displayed on screen

Thanks for the replies - really helpful. Well, since turning my computer off and upside down to get the serial number, I've turned it back on and it now shows: BBC Computer 32K @ASIC < Then I restarted it, for it to show: BBC Coorwvgr 32K @ASIC < Then I restarted it again, for it to show: BBC Comput...

BBC B 32K - Incorrect characters displayed on screen

Hello all, So glad to find this forum! I'm just getting my old BBC B working again. (Serial number 029563. In its original form, with no add-ons or modifications, etc.) It just did a continuous beep when I tried to turn it on, so I have replaced the three power supply capacitors and it now turns on ...
