Re: Atom Printing

AFAIK any dot matrix printer with a centronics port will work on the Atom (and also Beeb and Electron). The 7 or 8 bit doesn't really matter since the 8th bit of the cable is tied to the ground so it will always be a digital 0. BITD we used a port of the 8255 or VIA B-port as 8th bit which could be...

Re: Atom Printing

Would any one know if this printer is Atom compatible, the Ribbon Cassette Printer Star N24-15 ? It seems to be able to accept 7 bit printing. But it is quite a fancy printer and works with IBM machines for example Or am I better to buy a Canon PW 1080. I realise that I will need a BBC printer cabl...

Re: My old Atom for you to see

Don't worry about any data in the HM6116 .... There is nothing in it. The HM6116 is static cmos memory and its contents is gone directly after power off unless you have some battery backup implemented but that is not applicable here. So you can safely remove it and replace it by the AtoMMC rom. I a...

Re: Yarrb - redesigned

I am though going to do some tinkering (in the meantime), and thought I would remove his MMC EPROM from the #A0000 location and insert it into the Dos rom socket of my Disk Drive unit and see if I can get any success loading and saving programmes from there. I'm sure you already know this, but I'll...

Re: Yarrb - redesigned

Hi Roland I could well be in the market for one of your new YARRB. I took half of your earlier advice (get yourself a Rom/Ram board & a AtoMMC board) and got myself an AtoMMC board from Sir Morris. It works as it should BUT it sits in IC24 where my programmable Rom chip was and I didn’t realise that...

Re: Coding question

Thanks so much , but not sure this will work since I don’t get an Out of Range message but an Error 156 , I don’t get an a chance to run the assembler code twice. Am I correct ? The two passes are still needed, but you are correct. I think the cause of your ERROR 156 is the use of AA as a label. I ...

Re: Coding question

You need to assemble the code twice. Add a line 12: 12 FOR I=0 TO 1 This must be just before the DIM P(-1). And a line 185: 185 NEXT I That will allow the forward reference to AA2 to be properly resolved in the second pass. Also, don't forget to add an RTS at the end! Dave Thanks so much , but not ...

Re: Coding question

Can you post a small example, it's difficult to help further without a bit more info. Thanks. As long as no one laughs ! I am trying to learn assembly language so have entered a multiplication programme from a old 6502 assembly programming book, so i can try and understand and build on it. Screen s...

Re: Coding question

Thanks Ian. I now understand the process of trying to initialise P to the labels but no success as yet. I still get the same error when the assembler runs when it works out the link to a label. It seems though that the workaround of using P+X or P-Y will work, so I will try this next.

Coding question

I am trying to learn assembler coding using a an old 6502 assembler language book and have got a 156 Assembler error caused by a forward BCC jump. The error code suggests that to resolve the issue I need to initialise the value of the label to P before assembling , but I have no idea what to do. Can...

Re: ROM IC24 Acorn Atom #A000-#AFFF

I can make a wav file from it and post it here later. Only way to load files into my atom at the moment for me are also wav files. Jan That would be great thanks. What tools will you use? I have downloaded ATM2WAV but using that you would need to convert the ROM image to a ATM file which I don't th...

An update In order to try and overcome the Name Error 118 that I was getting when installing a rom like ATOM Calc, I decided to find another Mac Program that allows you to run Windows programs on a Macbook, in case my WINE Windows emulation program was the issue. I found Virtual Box. What a great bi...

My old Atom for you to see

Seeing this forum has encouraged me to get my Two Atoms out of the attic. I bought my Acorn Atom in my year off before Uni in 1980/81. I still have it but unfortunately it doesn’t seem to work now. It was a simple machine with no extras but it did have the 12K of RAM. The PCB looks clean with no app...
