Re: Orion by Minerva software

OK - I've now got a working solution! I created an empty 800K floppy using HxC with the following settings, and then saved it as a .HFE image. adfs_hxc.png Then I used "Archive Disk Copier" on the Archimedes itself to do a sector copy of the original floppy to the Gotek using the .HFE image. As the ...

Re: Orion by Minerva software

OK, that's fair enough. I read a comment on another board that implied some images had protection removed.

My question still stands: has anyone made an image that will work from a Gotek with FlashFloppy?

Orion by Minerva software

Hi all, Does anyone have a working ADF image of Orion by Minerva Software? I'd like to have a reliable backup for use on my Gotek drive (FlashFloppy) with real Archimedes hardware. Using Greaseweazle to image the disc and create an hfe file for FlashFloppy, the game still detects that it's not the o...

Swapping Drives on A310 (or A400)

I have an Arc A310 and have been using it with a Gotek drive running FlashFloppy. The Gotek has been connected using a Watford Electronics external drive interface that I originally bought to connect a 5.25" drive for transferring files from BBC discs. I have been doing a mix of full disc copies fro...

That make sense, thanks.

I'm only just getting back into the world of RiscOS after a gap of over 20 years!

ADFS_DiscOp vs XADFS_DiscOp

Looking through some old programs on my A310 I found a BASIC program using SYS "XADFS_DiscOP", ...

No extra Modules are loaded so just RiscOS 3.10.

Anyone know what the difference from ADFS_DiscOp is?

I agree that that is what the schematic says, but actually buzzing out my ISS.2 A310, its pinout is:

So rotating the connector doesn't work.

Gotek with FlashFloppy on Archimedes A310

After great success using a Gotek drive with Keir Fraser's FlashFloppy firmware on my BBC Model B's and Master, I thought I'd give it a try on my Archimedes A310. So using similar settings to the BBC in FF.CFG, and plugged into a Watford Electronics external disk interface it works great as a second...

Re: Anyone got a spare Electron ULA? :-)

It's definitely the 6502. Tried it back in the Elk and in a Model B - Nada. I was given the Elk, dead, by my cousin in about 2000. It's been sitting un-used since then as I had another working one. Recently though I've been going through my old computers. This was the last of 7 Acorn machines to be ...

Re: Proposed: "The Ultimate Electron Upgrade"

Hi myelin, Keep us posted! I have quite a bit of VHDL/schematic/layout experience - I've been doing it for a living for about 30 years - albeit not with Altera. Mostly Xilinx and Lattice. I also have a friend in here in the UK who owns an SMD assembly company, so if there's a demand for UK based man...

Re: Anyone got a spare Electron ULA? :-)

Thanks for the advice. check everything else first So I think I initially assumed the worst and thought it had to be the ULA. With further probing, it turns out the CPU wasn't clocking properly. Turned pin socket and period-correct replacement CPU fitted. 20200304_102622.jpg ...and it's alive! 20200...

Anyone got a spare Electron ULA? :-)

Hi guys, Typical faulty Electron here. Looks like the ULA. RAM all appears to have activity and clocks / CAS / RAS all look sensible. I get a Mode 6 screen with white background and nothing else. 20200303_210502.jpg It's an Iss 6 with the blob ULA. 20200303_210515.jpg Anyone know the state of play w...

I would replace all four of the Sideways ROM soclets with good quality Augat Turned pin Sockets.
That's the plan. I have a friend with a decent desoldering station I may be paying him a visit!

Re: Upgrading a BBC Master power supply with a modern 60W supply

I've been looking at my Model B PSUs with a view to doing similar, and came across the Meanwell RPT-60A.
It's physically smaller (4"x2") so could fit easily inside the PSU case.

Re: Weird intermittent fault

OK, I've had the main PCB out, removed the ROMs (OS, BASIC, Acorn DFS and UPURS), cleaned the sockets with contact cleaner, and cleaned the ROM pins with a fibreglass pen brush. I've also and re-flowed the ROM socket pins, adding a bit of fresh solder. Still glitching, even with just OS and BASIC. O...

Re: Weird intermittent fault

OK, so its not a PSU fault - I tried powering from a bench PSU. The Iss4 takes just under 1.6 Amps at 5V. Pretty similar to the Iss7.
I Managed to play Snapper for a couple of levels then it froze.

After powering off and back on I got this after a second or so:

Re: Weird intermittent fault

you ran *HELP, then left the machine idle? That's correct. I've done a fair bit of probing and a lot of signals look good (clocks, RAS, CAS, etc) until the glitch, then possibly they get upset. I have just noticed that the PSU appears to be running pretty warm compared with the Iss7, however I can'...

OK clever Beeb people, here's a challenge for you. I have an Iss4 Model B that appears to have been converted from a Model A. I've recently been resurrecting my Beebs and have come across UPURS. Firstly: MartinB, fantastic work! Re: Archimedes Test ROMs

So I've done a bit of research. Looking at my IFEL carrier board it looks as if I need to swap pins 1 and 31 on each ROM to be able to use the FLASH. Unfortunately there aren't links to do this, and there's a track (+5V) between pin 1 and pin 32 on all ROM sockets. It may be possible to mod when I g...

Hi Ian, I know this is a bit of an old(ish) thread, but what issues did you have using flash chips? Re: Introducing my Atom

Hi Dave, I managed to find some HN462532 EPROMS. The datasheet says they are compatible with TMS2532 and they do have a chip enable on pin 20 as per the Atom schematic. As far as I can see, 2732s differ in their Vpp, A11 and #CE pins. I remember coming across this incompatibility back in the 80s! As...

Lots of food for thought! I think an AtoMMC would be a great idea to start. As yet I have insufficient posts to be able to PM sirmorris. It looks as if he doesn't live far away from me - Oxfordshire. I'm in North Hampshire. I've only recently fitted a ROM/RAM board to my BBC model B - an Atom board ...

Thanks for all your positive responses.

I have uploaded the design as a thing on Thingiverse.
For some reason the site appears to be going really slow.
