Re: ICE T65/Z80/6809

Hmm, I guess you always run the risk of ebay/ali products not being available at any time. If you want to provide consistency you have to make one yourself (can be a copied design) with still available parts for a reasonable price. Bonus is that you can integrate level shifting and make the EEPROM b...

Re: ICE T65/Z80/6809

That last one should be usable, it has USB. Perhaps redefine the pin mappings...

BTW: what is the issue with the EEPROM? I found it (M25P80-VMW6) on ebay: 10 for 7 euros.

Re: ICE T65/Z80/6809

Playing with the idea of making a clone but sourcing of the EEPROM used on the board is scaring me off a bit. You can make a totally new design. You only need the power supplies, a way to program the FPGA (JTag conn) and storage for its config. You could even add the level shifting to the same boar...

Re: ICE T65/Z80/6809

Yes, I've reread those posts - and now I am getting ***memory timeout*** I have tried with clock frequencies from around 1MHz up to 12MHz (ball-park: not very accurate)... All with the same result. I have measured continuity from my IDC-DIP cable (the pins I plug into the socket on my board)...

Re: ICE T65/Z80/6809

Hi,

After a long break I am at it again.
I'm getting "missing clock" again, though I do provide a 1MHz clock...? same result up to around 8MHz.
I measured the click pin (6) and it IS there.
I remember last time I had it working...

Re: ICE T65/Z80/6809

Makes sense, thanks. I checked continuity from the LV 245 buffer outputs to the DIP 40 socket on my Adapter after I fixed some less-than-ideal solder joints. And rechecked continuity on the socket-to-socket ribbon cable I made. It all checks out ok. I found a software bug in my System Controller cod...

Re: ICE T65/Z80/6809

If you want to to test the RD/WR/IORQ/MREQ pins really are tristated, then you probably need to setup the ICE on a breakboard (with power and a clock). Pull the databus down to 0V with 8x 10K resistors (so it runs NOPs). Tie the other control inputs as appropriate. Then use something like 22K resis...

Re: ICE T65/Z80/6809

OK noob mistake #-o The ribbon cable between the Xilinx Platform Cable USB II programmer and the eepiza Spartan 6 board was the problem. Re: ICE T65/Z80/6809

I went back to the bread board. Got the clock from my Z80 system (no more missing clock). I can see a difference with how RESET is handled. The Z80 puts its Address and Data bus in hi-Z and the control signals in inactive-state. The ICE keeps the address lines hard-low. I toggle RESET (long time per...

Re: ICE T65/Z80/6809

I assembled my Z80 rig and tested out the ICE. I only had time for a quick test run. This is what I have found so far: At higher clock settings I do not get the 'missing clock' message any more. I loaded a 'hello world' test program that I first tested with the real Z80 in there, just to make sure i...

Re: ICE T65/Z80/6809

There is handshaking in the hardware to ensure commands from the AVR core to the Bus Monitor logic are not lost, and this handshaking involves the target system clock. If this clock is too slow, a timeout will occur in the AVR software, which is fed back to the user as a "Clock Missing" error. [......

I have assembled Dave's Adapter Board last evening and encountered no problems. Re: ICE T65/Z80/6809

Update: One idea to consider... 1 - use my existing adapter board and on the bottom mount a 40-pin SMT DIP socket, like one of these . 2 - make up a short cable with a pair of 40-pin IDC 0.6" DIP Headers and some 40 pin IDC cable. These are hard to find, but do exist. 3 - solder a second CPU socket ...

Right, that should be 14.7 indeed and I run on Windows (tried Linux too but that crashed) - and yes it is the EEPizza board.
I have that programmer as well - so that means the USB on the EEPizza board is for power only?

Any hints on how to use the software?
