Trying to download bbcsdl20.zip from http://www.bbcbasic.co.uk/bbcsdl/index.html But failing with "invalid zip file" while using the Windows built-in unzip and also with 7zip. Strange. Try this Dropbox link instead. What sometimes happens is that the download fails, but every time you repeat it you...

Re: 10 line BBC BASIC game (@-man)

Excellent! How can I see this in action? If you have a PC, Mac, Linux box or Raspberry Pi (3 or 4) you can install the (free) BBC BASIC for SDL 2.0 and paste this program into the IDE: ENVELOPE1,1,0,0,0,0,0,0,127,-127,0,0,64,0:ENVELOPE2,3,0,0,0,0,0,0,127,-127,0,0,100,0:*tempo 1 MODE7:VDU28,6,24,32,...

Re: 10 line BBC BASIC game (@-man)

I have no way to test this. But here's my best guess. I added WAIT at 2 different places I found a better way of limiting the speed, without using WAIT or INKEY, by modifying one of your SOUND statements! This also fixes another issue with running it on a non-Beeb (or Electron) platform, that your ...

I had another go in MODE 7, which I found easier to play as it was easier on the eyes, and achieved another high score.
Great score! And clever modification to MODE 7. I deliberately chose MODE 6 because I want it to work on the Acorn Electron.

Excellent Simon! It does get a bit tedious after a while doesn't it? At one point an enemy (ghost?) walked right through me, and I managed to stay alive. I don't know how that happened. Yes, this can happen. I thought I fixed it at one point but now I just call it a survival strategy feature ...

Re: 10 line BBC BASIC game (@-man)

I added WAIT at 2 different places (I aim to keep each line max 120 chars). I can work with that, thanks. Using INKEY for a delay would be more universally compatible, and has the valuable side-effect of stopping the keyboard buffer filling (which can cause an annoying beep on some systems) but adm...

Re: 10 line BBC BASIC game (@-man)

Would *FX19 do? Would that be enough delay? I could use an equivalent (e.g. WAIT or *REFRESH in those BASICs that support them) if so. Where should I put it? I have no way to test this. But here's my best guess. I added WAIT at 2 different places (I aim to keep each line max 120 chars). Choose eith...

Re: 10 line BBC BASIC game (@-man)

Meet @-man, a Pacman look alike. I appreciate that it's intended only for a Beeb or Electron but it looks as though it would work on other versions of BBC BASIC if it included something to slow it down to a usable speed. Is there somewhere that an INKEY() delay could be added to achieve that? Would...

IMTOD and IDTOM modified specifically for Acorn Electron (DFS, MMFS, disk imaging, disc copying)

I have a stack of old floppy disks that I now want to transfer to SD-card using Electron/MMFS/Pegasus400/DFS. The problem was that none of the versions of IMTOD and IDTOM (disk imaging tools for copying whole disks from DFS to MMFS and vice versa) are compatible with the Electron. Until now that is....

Re: ADFS on Electron/Plus1/Pegasus400 not working

I definitely found an issue with the ADFS ROM v1.15! I did a binary comparison of the entire 16K against the version from STH. There are single bit corruptions at 9 different locations in the 16K file. One example at offset &C40: mine has byte &00 (BRK) which should be &20 (JSR) which would definite...

Five! . . . OK, probably eliminated that train of thought

ROM corruption: Do you have anything that can read the ROMs? I can provide you with a known working image. So you could then read the ROM you have and do a binary compare.

This is the ADFS ROM in my Pegasus:
