Re: Rainbird titles on the BBC

Well done. I never cease to be amazed by the work of the Acorn/BBC community.

Re: Knight Orc (Level 9) ... yes, it actually exists!

What a superb write-up. Wow... I had no idea. Like you said, it's only due to the Centre for Computing History sharing their archive of images/information online that this was spotted. Well done to all involved.

Re: Absolute best adventures?

In terms of homegrown Quilled games, I believe the Larry Horsfield games such as Magnetic Moon were quite well thought of. I'm more familiar with the later (larger) PAWed Spectrum conversions.

Re: The Classic Adventurer (Bookazine)

Issue 5 is now available. Definitely worth reading if you're an Electron/BBC adventurer as it includes an interview with Greedy Dwarf author Simon Ainsworth as well as a feature on Peter Killworth.

Are there any clues in the system/programming techniques being used? Is it similar to any other games out there?

Re: Rainbird titles on the BBC

Rich Hewison would be the one to ask. His site doesn't list the Rainbird re-releases as being available for the BBC, though. The Centre for Computing History has a "test disk" for the BBC/Rainbird Knight Orc listed in their catalogue alongside the Atari version... http://www.computinghistory.org.uk/...

The Classic Adventurer (Bookazine)

I'm surprised that this hasn't got a mention anywhere in the forum before now, but fans (or past fans) of text adventures may like to check out Mark Hardisty's The Classic Adventurer Bookazine at... http://classicadventurer.co.uk/ Currently running to four issues, with a potential fifth on the way, ...

Re: Unfinished Text Adventures

I presume Bill Trevelyan is the same guy who made several contributions to Electron User between April 1986 and the final issue in July 1990 where he received a special thank you from Pendragon for his contributions ? He seems to have written a lengthy six-part series on writing adventures for Elec...

Running a search for unsolved BBC adventures, lists 110 games... http://solutionarchive.com/list/no_solu ... tform%2C4/

Spectrum has 1041... http://solutionarchive.com/list/no_solu ... tform%2C2/

...a lot of those will be MIA, but... yeah... that would keep you busy for a long time. :)

Re: Unfinished Text Adventures

Thanks for the Adventure Probe issues 8bitAG. There are a few missing so I'll patrol the web and see if I can find some of the missing ones. There are a lot of missing ones... You're unlikely to find them elsewhere on the web, but I'd certainly be interested if you do. I believe an almost complete ...

Re: ALPS Adventure Language Programming System

I'd love to read this column, as I'm sure would several other Atom fans here. Do you have any idea what issues (or even what year) it was in? Dave Here are Geoff's 'Mighty Atom' columns. There are two missing, as I don't have the related editions of Adventure Probe in my archive. http://8bitag.com/...

I found a list of back issues on the World of Spectrum website but after downloading a few it appears I've reached my limit and can have no more (until when I can't say). Does anyone know of any alternative sites from where I can download this magazine ?
I'll sort you something out tomorrow. ;)

Just to clarify what you are trying to do...

Which machine are you emulating through Zesarux to try and play CP/M adventures?

Re: Unfinished Text Adventures

Simon Maren used to write in to the Adventure Probe fanzine every so often (which later went on to be edited by Barbara Gibb, who was a BBC adventure player and had covered Simon's games). Simon's letter announcing his retirement for writing adventure games sparked quite a long, furious debate betwe...

Re: ALPS Adventure Language Programming System

The other IIRC was called Survivor and was by Geoff Lynas. It was either finished or very close to finished. Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but I thought it was worth adding the information here that the ALPS game, The Survivor by Geoff Lynas was actually finished and released. It was ad...
