Wanted: A3010 mains transformer

If anyone has a scrap A3010, I need a quiet mains transformer. Mine works fine but hums quite a lot; too much for me to use it it regularly.

So if you've got a damaged A3010, gimme a shout please.

Could someone explain how to use ADFimager?

I have a floppy image which is 819.2k (unzipped) in size. I want to write it to a blank floppy. Do I need to get the zip file to my A3000 and use SparkFS ? I'm a bit confused

Bought Crystal Maze from ebay but Disc 1 faulty

As in the title, I bought Crystal Maze on ebay but I find disc 1 (i.e. the second disc as they're numbered from zero!) cannot be read by my A3000 (Disc error 10 at :0/00000000) and my A3010 says it is not formatted. I noticed that all 3 discs had the Write Protect tab in the "enable" position :( so ...

Re: A3010 with a noisy transformer.

I'm not sure what you mean by "spacers". Mine has the transformer attached to the mainboard by 2 screws from underneath. They screw into 2 diagonally opposite hex pillars - I suppose you could call them spacers. Wonder would it help trying to brace the other 2 corners of the transformer? Pity it's s...

A3010 with a noisy transformer.

I recently bought an A3010. I've had it powered on a few times with the motherboard out of the case and it was pretty much silent. Now that I have it back in the case (both transformer case screws in) it makes an irritating hum. Is this usual for an A3010? I have two A3000s and they're both silent i...

Re: Transferring floppies to HD / IDE device

!ADFFS needs 4MB of RAM doesn't it? I've only 2MB unfortunately.

BTW what does Bad Drive mean? I see this when trying to start Ibex the Viking from floppy.

Transferring floppies to HD / IDE device

I have a few original floppy games which I'm trying to move to my ZIDEFS device. Some appear to work whereas others either still look for the floppy during boot, or just display an error. As an example, Ibix the Viking just shows "Bad Drive" when I try to open the floppy disk. What does that mean? P...

A3010 not booting - memory problem

I have an A3010 with both: RAM control line failure and CMOS RAM checksum error There was a very minor battery leak in this machine but only R60 seems to have been affected (although it still seems to be good). I'm assuming the CMOS fault will clear when I can get the machine to boot with DELETE hel...

Re: New A3000 4MB memory

If it helps others, I will happily reduce my request from 2 boards to one. That way someone from batch 2 might get a board.

If this causes any problems or messes with the figures, then I'm still happy to take 2 boards as originally requested.

Just get a standard one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232081793751 We can walk you through flashing it and pimping it! You'll also need a USB A-A cable: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261435344163 @danielj for some weird reason that seller doesn't post to N Ireland from China  so I've found one fr...

Re: Difficulties extracting zip / adf files to DOM

Some excellent information there hubersn! I am in a queue for an upcoming 4MB board on the buy/sell forum here but I'm not sure how long that will be in production / testing. Using omniflop and a real floppy will probably be my 1st choice. The RPi would be my 2nd choice as I'd have to set it up with...

Re: Difficulties extracting zip / adf files to DOM

I only downloaded it after searching on these forums for something to extract from adf files. Thought I was doing my bit... searching instead of asking questions all the time :?

So if BeebArc is not suitable, I'll have to get looking for something else.

Re: Difficulties extracting zip / adf files to DOM

If all you want to do is play games from adf files, then a gotek may be a better option, as I understand it it will read adf's directly from a USB stick. I had considered a Gotek but I what I should've said was "All I want to do for now is download games and play them". So I'm sure I will need a fl...

If you have 4MB RAM, use ADFFS to mount the floppy images.

Download officially released games from JASPP as well, of which Nebulus is one JASPP own the rights too.
Only got 2 MB RAM unfortunately but thanks.

Thanks Ian. All I want to do is download games and play them, but it's proving a bit difficult. Not being knowledgeable on this platform doesn't really help :?

I'm willing to give it a go - but finding a step-by-step process is near impossible.

Difficulties extracting zip / adf files to DOM

I'm having no end of difficulties trying to get software on to my A3000 (with IDE). Just a reminder that I'm new to Acorn stuff so explain stuff in simple terms please. I've downloaded some games from the internet in zip format. I copied them to a floppy disk on a PC and transferred them to the A300...

Copying files from PC to IDE DOM - advice needed.

I've recently bought an IDE card from IanS with an included DOM. Can anyone advise me of the easiest way of copying downloaded files from my Linux PC to the DOM? Is it as easy as mounting the DOM on the PC and copying the files across? What sort of files formats are supported and are there any onlin...

Re: IDE podules - 8 and 16 bit versions

@IanS thank you for the explanation. So the 8 bit fits internally to an A3000 but has half the data rate of an (external) 16 bit one - is this a correct interpretation? Say I later bought an A3010, would I be able to use the A3000 unit in that? Finally, is there a noticeable difference in the 2 data...

Re: Fixed: A3000 black screen on power on

In my first post I said "I am 95% sure I've found all PCB damage and repaired it". Well this was almost accurate. More like 70% sure. I repaired some more tracks on the keyboard circuit and that allowed me to press DEL while booting. That sorted the rolling screen and booted into RISC OS. Then some ...

Re: IDE podules - 8 and 16 bit versions

I would be interested in whichever is most suitable for an A3000. As a newcomer to the whole Acorn scene, I don't understand the difference (benefits) between an 8 / 16 bit version (hardware-wise). Also what is a DOM? Sorry for the numpty questions but anything that allows mass storage on an A3000, ...
