That isn't really the issue. I just want to be able to order stuff online and it turns up. Like PCB boards. It a good 45 min drive to the nearest Makerspace. Only printers in our libraries print paper, not sure if other UK libraries do this but not something our county council offers. FWIW, my own ...

FWIW, I like gscan2pdf (but I'm not using Windows, I moved on many years ago). Also, it is nice to add a post-processing step (if your scanning software doesn't do it for you): please OCR the PDF. As a friend explained to me: it doesn't matter that the OCR only get between 90 - 97 % of the text corr...

Well, if there is space, you can do all the bending and soldering on a socket, and then just put the socket between the chip and the onboard socket. Of course, if components are soldered directly to the board you can't avoid some soldering either way.
