Re: Hard Disk Errors

Thanks! It ultimately died! Out of interest I took a look inside at that point and you can clearly see lots of marks on the surface of the top platter - bits floating around inside too. Luckily I copied 95% of the stuff off it to a new CF card first.

Re: Copying Apps from CD (ISO) to HDD

I've had a look at the copy of Xenon2 on a physical AU10 CD and it's corrupt. Most of the file is missing, which is why you're having problems running it. I'll see if I have the original floppy in the archive to compare. The archive copy on the CD is also corrupt ( archived.games.ex-commercial.xeno...

Hard Disk Errors

Is there a utility that can scan the HDD in an Archimedes and "flag" any bad areas so they aren't used? I would prefer to avoid initialising the disk again just now, but I know that's one way. I wondered if there were any "scan disk" or "disk doctor" type tools available for RISC OS 3.10? The drive ...

Re: Archimedes Guides / Wikis?

Thanks for the help so far guys =D I am up and running! Will look at that ROM upgrade next I think, followed by an IDE podule. I got the old ST-506 drive working =D Will give some thanks when I upload part 2 (of my video series on this arc). EDIT: And if anyone is interested to see how I got on to s...

Re: Copying Apps from CD (ISO) to HDD

"No writable memory at this address" Has anyone seen that before? You possibly don't have enough screen memory allocated. Download ADFFS and use the Xenon 2 boot script to run it. The scripts are in !ADFFS.Obey which is a ZIP file full of Obey files. From memory I think Xenon 2 needs a specific amo...

Re: Copying Apps from CD (ISO) to HDD

Thanks hubersn and sirbod! =D I ran into some problems with Xenon 2 (from Acorn User Magazine CD 10) - I read somewhere that it should work on Risc OS 3.10 (and it definitely should work on a Strong ARM, but on both emulators it gives the following error. Xenon 2 launches and the icon appears in the...

Re: Archimedes Guides / Wikis?

I'm on my mobile so I'll keep it short but... 1. RISC OS 3.11 is probably best atm, but look out for the thread on building an unofficial 3.20 set of ROMs on this forum. 2. Rather than a HD floppy drive upgrade, use a Gotek. More convenient and will support all disc capacities for the Arc. 3. IDE c...

Re: Archimedes Guides / Wikis?

Can anyone recommend any upgrades I should consider? I am thinking that I need Risc OS 3.10 for games? I was considering the HD floppy drive mod, and fitting an IDE interface podule. Does anyone still sell ARM3 upgrades for these - or would that create incompatibilities? EDIT: Also - thinking I can ...

RPCemu is probably worth a shot. https://www.4corn.co.uk/articles/rpcemu371win/ One of the current maintainers is member flibble on this forum. Thanks!!! Re: Copying Apps from CD (ISO) to HDD

Thanks, so I have sparkplug installed, but I am guessing that's not going to help me extract the files from the CD ISO? I assume I would need to setup a Risc PC emulator (something that supports CD) and mount the ISO there and then copy the files from the mounted disc? Is there no other way of extra...

Copying Apps from CD (ISO) to HDD

Hi, I've got an ISO from the cover disk of Archimedes User Magazine which contains some games. I am trying to get them working to start with in Arculator. I have a HDD in Arculator, and I can extract the game folders from the ISO (with winzip etc) and copy those folders to the FS folder in Arculator...

Re: Archimedes Guides / Wikis?

Thanks! I vaguely remember these having Conner IDE hard disks, I think I was thinking of later models! I see the MFM connections now =/ I might see if there's anything I can do with the drive. Likely heads or platters though. EDIT: Also, am I correct in thinking that not all Archimedes games have be...

Archimedes Guides / Wikis?

Are there any guides or wikis that anyone can recommend for someone first getting into the arc? I've got an A440/1 coming and I know I will need to swap the HDD to start with (thinking of a 128MB or 64MB CF card - no idea if it will work or not), and I could just do with some tutorials that cover th...

Ah why not. I'll take one!
There are some left! Just drop me a PM!

I finally have time to post some of these this week. There are still several left if anyone else wants one. £3 + postage (£2 UK) = £5 total for UK.

Re: Adapting joysticks for the BBC micro

I have sufficient spare components and PCBs to make up at least 5 boards or supply a "kit" with PCB and parts. If I were to offer them, would there be any interest on here? I do not have any more project boxes or in-line DB15 plugs to make up the boxed version, although I can supply a 1m length of ...

Re: BeebSID

Watched. Interesting. After our discussions about where to get the power from, I am not surprised that the 5 volts ended up going astray, but didnt expect it to total the chip. I've had two or three fakes as well - as mentioned in one of my recent beeb repair vids.

They won't work in the beeb in this warm weather, but put it into a VIC-20 and they run fine. They are 1Mhz parts marked up as A's.

But there are some differences to the actual real life PSUs. Hence why I reverse engineered the important primary side. I ...
