Re: BBC *Status Command (and odd characters)

Glad to see the Retro-Printer is echoing the RX-80 - I would guess that the RX-80 has a dip switch set to convert CR to LF (you could change this in the Retro-Printer configuration to set auto_linefeed if you wanted the same effect

Re: BBC *Status Command (and odd characters)

That has been most helpful. Presumably an ESC/P printer would therefore produce the same output as the Retro-Printer module - the ESC/P programming reference manual does not appear to indicate that a space is printed when these upper control codes are received. I guess the question therefore is whet...

Re: BBC *Status Command (and odd characters)

That certainly looks very similar .... and I can see the teletext control codes are there for colour control. I think therefore the issue is how an ESC/P printer handles these control codes (character code 131 and 135). I guess, the BBC treats them as a space (as well as changing colour) - should th...

Re: BBC *Status Command (and odd characters)

Hmm - I will have to get the user to join up to stardot (if he is not already a member) - he has only said that it is a BBC Model B

BBC *Status Command (and odd characters)

Can someone with a printer connected to the BBC please check how the *STATUS command appears when printed on a dot matrix printer? I have a little problem with recreating the page using a Retro-Printer module - see: http://forum.retroprinter.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=39 I guess the dot matrix output d...

Re: Connecting the Retro-Printer to the BBC

Yes - re-reading his message, I guess he meant *FX5,1 - but he does specifically state that he is using a BBC Model B.

Is there any way of changing the default printer device on a Model B so that he does not need to enter this command every time he turns the machine on?

Re: Connecting the Retro-Printer to the BBC

The customer has got back to me :D Thanks for the pointers everyone - for some reason, his BBC needs him to do a *FX5,2 command on startup (to select output to parallel port) According to the manual, that is supposed to be the default - so not sure why it isn't on his BBC! Anyway, it is all working ...

The Retro-Printer is now available for purchase - www.retroprinter.com
=D> That looks interesting! :D

On the web page you've linked to, the last three sections all fizzle out mid-sentence?
So they do - they seem to be missing the "Read More...." link

Re: Connecting the Retro-Printer to the BBC

Thanks - that is the same as standard centronics - weird that one program prints fine, but not the BBC BASIC - I guess the problem might be the centronics cable...

Connecting the Retro-Printer to the BBC

As some of you will have heard, the Retro-Printer Module (www.retroprinter.com) connects to a centronics port to capture printer data and send it to a modern printer. One thing we found was needed during development, was that some equipment needed 5V on pin 13 (Select) and pin 32 (Error) in order to...

Re: Printer Emulation..(ie ESC P printer emulation)

The Retro-Printer is now available for purchase - www.retroprinter.com There are a few issues with the BBC, so I will start a separate thread for that. In the meantime, out of interest, I thought I would run the captured test file from above through the ESC/P2 convertor. BCPL-Capture - Page1.jpg BCP...

Re: Printer Emulation..(ie ESC P printer emulation)

I just came across this and it is an interesting discussion. I am the author behind the software which runs on the RetroPrinter (www.retroprinter.com) and of course the public domain PrinterToPDF (https://github.com/RWAP/PrinterToPDF). The main reason why we decided that we needed to re-invent the (...

Re: Centronics printer to usb converter

The BBC Model B, BBC Master 128 and BBC Master 512 machines have a parallel printer port as standard. They can print to most printers that have a Centronics parallel port. These computers use a IDC connector. The BBC Master Compact also has a parallel printer port, but uses a different connector. T...

Re: Centronics printer to usb converter

Definitely - the ESC/P2 conversion routine has been released under the GPL license, so we welcome its use in other projects and of course, suggested improvements to the code.

Re: Centronics printer to usb converter

I’ve been keeping an eye on your retro-printer project for a while now, and I think a few other people on this forum are also aware of your project too. From your website, it looks as though you’ve been making good progress. Any idea when the retro-printer may become available? The Retro-Printer is...

Re: Centronics printer to usb converter

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I would pop on and mention my own little project to provide a Centronics port to usb convertor. It is called the Retro-Printer (www.retroprinter.com) and uses a Raspberry Pi (or other Single Board Computer) to process the captured data - converting ESC/P2 ...
