Re: Acornsoft Elite

This thread brought back a few memories. When Superior took on Acornsoft and they were re-releasing Elite they didn't have a 6502 second processor to test with so I ended up taking mine in for them for which I got a nice complimentary copy for my troubles. Sometime later, on a subsequent visit, I ha...

ARM Evaluation System

Been playing around with the ARM Evaluation System as emulated on BeebEm and B-em. I've loaded a program at &2000 first instruction is MOV R15,R14 so when I GO 2000 it should just return straight away to the command prompt? Hangs unfortunately. Exhibits the same behaviour on both systems. What a...

SourceGen Disassembly Projects

What appears to be a new web site dedicated to 6502 disassembly of mainly Apple II games can be found at https://6502disassembly.com/ Of particular interest to Acorn people is an in-depth listing of Apple II Elite including references to common code found in the BBC and C64 sources as well as bugs i...

Re: Repton 3: Emulator/RNG issue

Superior designed the bulk of the screens for all the variations, I designed a few and I think a few people like Tim Tyler designed many others. I did supply a tool to them so that they could move screens around within the game file so they could design a screen, play test it then move it around to ...

Re: Repton 3: Emulator/RNG issue

Hi Dave, yes it's Matthew. If not you then I have no idea who I sent it to all those years ago. Do you have the original artwork for UIM? I'm pretty sure that the person who has that is the one I sent the source to. No source left for anything I'm afraid. Yes, I bought the art for UIM and Psyanki (...

Re: Repton 3: Emulator/RNG issue

Matthew, if you're still reading this ... what are the chances I can find a bit of spare RAM for a patch? Do you have any idea where? EDIT: This looks like where the patch is needed, starting at &2FF8. Ltimebomb_defused jsr i_disable_gameplay jsr L170c jsr L1919 lda v_current_level asl a tax ld...

Re: Repton 3: Emulator/RNG issue

The initial delay before the fungus seems right, I think that came at the request of Steve Botterill who found that if you had a screen with a lot of fungus to start with then it was on your case straight away. He wanted a fungus delay at the screen start so as not to make it too difficult. IIRC the...

Re: Repton 3: Emulator/RNG issue

Dave Moore has all the source for R3 for all versions, I passed it onto him several years ago along with Tempest etc. No or very little self modifying code in there. From memory the fungus code scanned a game row each pass of the main loop and if it found a cell occupied by fungus would generate a r...

Re: Elite save game from checksum restore?

Elite uses a CRC (cyclic redundacy code) when loading a player's saved game. This is generally sensitive enough to detect single bit inversions and therefore saved game tampering. Utilities were available back then to change the saved game status and recalculate the CRC in order to pass Elite's load...

Trying to find...

Hi,

I'm trying to track down an Archimedes game I think was called Hypercube
that was distributed as a freebie on one of the Archimedes magazines of the 90's.
It was a 3d isometric tetris style game. Searches to date have proved fruitless.

Thanks.

Re: Time for Zarch .... on the beeb?!

Strangely enough I was thinking about this over Christmas and made a few preliminary notes about how it might look/work... Split screen, mode 2 at the top, mode 1 at the bottom. Modified screen to give resolution of 256 x 192, two frame buffers of 12k each. 000 < display panel/height/fuel indicators...
