Re: Proposed: "The Ultimate Electron Upgrade"

Wasnt gonna post this but ah feck it... Why the hell cant i dream... Quite a lot of this is possible; it all depends on what the software/RTL folks end up making once there are a few of these in the wild :) The current design uses about 10% of the FPGA, so there's plenty of room there for things li...

Re: Alternative 32-bit operating systems

Hmm. Maybe we should just use that name for now and change it later if its real name appears! I've just run the Mandelbrot demo on my Hydra card (I was mad enough to pick one up in 2002, when Simtec were flogging them off) and the 'correct' name (or at least the one it spits out in the HydraTerm wi...

Tbh how its been stored but I reckon it may be ok.

If left somewhere it was subjected to very low temps in winter etc may not do so well.

Re: On the subject of horizontal software scrolling games

Added mirroring, the most demanding bit now takes 20% of a frame, so plenty of 6502 time to add a game! timing_test3.png The level gfx are a little verbose at 4.5K, but after the landscape code, that still leaves 4.5K free (already reserved 1K for status area). A big game would require SWRAM, but t...

Re: Stunt Car Racer for BBC Master

I can't speak for Kieran, but R-Type is a little tricky. You can do single pixel scrolling with a double buffered screen to make your life easier on the beeb like this . To do R-Type properly, you need 1/2 pixel scrolling or one every two frames which means displaying the same frame twice in a row ...

I'd love to see what could be done with r-type fully utilising the master. It's another game I loved and there are already good c64 and spectrum versions which would make the challenge interesting.

Re: DRAGON USER gripes about the Computer Literacy Programme.....

Surprised the c64 is so low on list cos next to spectrum that seemed to be the most popular home machine of era by a long shot. As an electron owner I can say c64 or spectrum was by far the most prevelant machines in mid 80's Maybe dragons did well early and all got dumped by time i was in to games ...

Yeah, lack of wifi is a major blocker for me. I'm not quite sure where my nearest network outlet is — somewhere far away and spidery in the basement.
A couple of homeplugs are a great solution for this.

How many of us have nr 40yr old ex school bbc's that handled probably a decade to twenty years being abused by kids????

I doubt many other options would have managed that.
