Shortest basic game????

Wanted to try that tweet bbc basic thing.....

Know there were a few playable games developed that had ridiculously low amount of code.

Are there any that would fit in a tweet to see if the thing works?

Re: Apple goes ARM

I think if it had a 32Gb memory option (what my old iMac and Linux machine currently have, as 16 became to small 4 years ago) and it still had the 10GB Ethernet port (for NAS reasons) that the intel mini had I probably would less ‘wait and see’. Also it doesn’t support egpus currently, although sin...

Re: Apple goes ARM

Not only does it go ARM but it comes in very high in performance v x86 macs (even good modern i7’s) and with its clever inclusion of some x86 binary translation hardware it even manages to stay level or better previous hardware running x86 code. Actually bloody impressed at what apples chip design g...

Do we know if anyone on here can print a case for these boards?

Happy to pay as have no way to make a case myself.

Thanks

I like this

I also like how some people are now looking at pcie 1x connector on new computer module and have sata adapters running and some good signs they may get gfx cards running. It at least opens up some desktop storage options

While we are talking about plus 3 I am sure the rom/ram upgrade available from Dave H (canny remember which of our members makes it but was one of usual suspects).

It gives you access to ADFS and DFS at &E00

Re: Electron Watchdog? (Soak tester)

So we any idea what it does, does it short anything or send anything to elk to make it carry out the soak test?

Still to try plugging it in to see how long LED’s change or light up go out etc before it appears to settle.

Re: Electron Watchdog? (Soak tester)

Apart from the fact the literature indicates it takes a set length of time to run the soak test and it was designed so it could be soak tested without someone sitting over the machine then I have got to guess it does something more then just monitoring IRQ I will plug it in at some point and monitor...

Re: Could you plug a pi into a matter cartridge slot?

On elk I imagine it could do 1mhz bus and tune pi as both buses were avail as cartridges. In master I am less sure as they already have those buses so may clash with same on cartridge?

Re: Electron Watchdog? (Soak tester)

Aparently an electron Soak tester according to electron service manual. Used to identify intermittent faults.

Guess it puts elk under full load and looks for faults somehow.

Could maybe be a good test device for some of the ULA replacement projects.

Imho areas can be larger than one screen so change palette to represent area changes would make quite a bit of sense.

Re: Why was BBC BASIC so fast?

Good hardware, very very well optimised basic etc etc There were quite a few benchmarks where bbc micro could better the ST and Amiga. Especially ones designed to test how good the basic interpreter was. I believe there was 1 other 8 bit machine with a well optimised basic in rom that was as fast if...

Before you start, please read my post here. Dave H :D They didn’t work cos of the screen mode contention but I believe that has workarounds that others solved. Another solver of that may be 64k Master ram mode. Also maybe UEU may have uncontended modes potentially? At moment I just thought it may b...
