Re: Recommended BBC Model B upgrades

I’ve tried both Gotek and MMFS SD card solutions and I do prefer using the Gotek for ease of use with disk images e.g. no need to mess around with mmb file on the SD card containing all the disk images. Speed performance is just fine with Gotek and gives a nice retro experience. Regarding loading DF...

Other possible upgrades:- BeebZif, nice if you have a hole to the left of the keyboard to fill https://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2710 , there also a plugin available for purchase on eBay. Re: Recommended BBC Model B upgrades

If you go for Gotek, then you may want to consider upgrading the disk controller if it isn’t already a 1770. Retroclinic can provide an upgrade. Also make sure your DFS version is 2.26. If you would like hard disk storage then a BeebSCSI is the way to go. Martin B is selling some kit for this. You’l...

Re: Looking to buy BBC Model B

I don't understand as well. I rediscovered by first home computer clearing my parents house (ZX81), then wanted again an Electron, then added another Electron with MRB and finally ended up buying a B+ on sale on this forum for a reasonable price , eBay prices can get quite high. Re: Mode 7 at 3C00 on the B+

Oh dear - that message is just checking what type of machine it is running on, not whether this mode 7 trick actually works. Could you try in again, please but instead of doing shift-break do: > LOAD "M7-3C00" > 3 > RUN i.e. delete the machine-type test so the program attempts to put Mode 7 at 3C00...

Re: Gotek case

The cases you did were probably a bit more of a tricky shape, not sure if that adds to cost. Might be as much as twice as much volume for a Gotek, but even if that double/trebled the price to £30, would still be considerably cheaper than £110. When you see these prices: 3D printed https://www.ebay....

There is a 3D print section on hardware list now, link below.
Yep, like that. Also add a LED “on” indicator and on\off switch for completeness.

Re: Gotek case

I would be interested in a couple of cases if a run was to go ahead. Either 3D printed or metal at a reasonable price.

Another wish would be for a retro styled cheese wegde case (e.g. 2nd processor) for raspberry pi zero.

Re: Teething troubles with 'new-to-me' Elk

A picture of the screen output would help and knowing which motherboard issue (e.g. a picture of the inside of the Elk).

Try a minimum setup first e.g. only the Elk. If this works one by one add the additional hardware to see what happens.

It’s a shame that there were never versions of Elite that made use of SWRAM, like there were for the BBC micro. I’ve tried GoSDC, Turbo MMFS (the Electron version from Ramtop), BeebSCSI (Hard disk on a SD card) and Gotek. They all work well.
