Re: TURBO MMC or GOTEK ?

Gotek. Every time, every day. For all the reasons above. It doesn't need to be expensive, you can get started with one from China for about £12 plus the cost of a USB A-USB A cable to program it (£3?). Adding an OLED display to it as described in the Wiki is another £3, and a rotary encoder perhaps...

Re: Worth Taking a Look At

I don’t have words. crazy price - want to bet we see another auction for Elite soon - 'extremely rare £599 BIN' Crazy money indeed, but that buyer was in it from an hour after it was first listed . No messing around, they wanted it. I actually came here to mention this new-old-stock export BBC B , ...

although I started to repair my harddisc video recorder. There were some bad components in the power supply but it still doesn't work after replacing those components.
shame you are not in the UK as I have a Freeview hard disc recorder that I was given and never use that I could have sent you

Successes and failures with machine repairs

Well seeing I've not been able to work since the lockdown started I decided it was about time I started sorting out my collection of machines and attempting to fix known issues with them or carry out mods. I have had to learn how to solder again, not having touched a soldering iron for at least 10 y...

BBC Micro top case

Looking for a decent condition top case for a BBC Micro - don't mind if it is yellowed. Preferably the earlier rough finish (going on an Issue 3 machine), but a later one would be fine.
thanks, Mark

Re: BBC Model B not booting

I suggest you check the sockets for 6502 (IC1), the OS ROM (IC51), the sockets where any other ROMs are fitted (IC52, IC88, IC100, IC101) and maybe the socket for the ‘system’ 6522 (IC3). In all cases, you are looking visually for any sockets where the socket contacts have been bent, where the cont...

Re: BBC Model B not booting

well, it has just started booting using the original 6845 - wonder if there is a bad solder joint somewhere around that area that I'm disturbing when removing / inserting the 6845 - have to pull the board and take a look Also anyone know where to get replacement power terminals and spade connectors ...

Re: BBC Model B not booting

this is weird - tested again this morning and failed to boot with the 6845 removed Tried with a known good 6845 - same issue, also then stated to occasionally boot with no 6845 - putting original 6845 in my good Model B also fails to work. So thinking (a) the 6845 is bad and (b) something else is in...

Re: BBC Model B not booting

now I'm getting somewhere - 6845 CRTC was getting a bit warm - pulled it and get the normal double beep, CAPS LOCK lit and keyboard responds to CTRL-Beak

So looks like I need to find myself another 6845 to continue - hopefully that is all that is wrong with it

Try removing / swapping position of S25 to see if it might be memory related.

https://mrpjevans.com/bbc-micro-model-b-memory-repair/
same results with jumper in either position or removed - also just realised that some of the memory has been replaced before (some have been socketed)

Ah, thanks for looking into it, I've used OBS before but not for a long time. Let me know how you get on! :) If you suss it out, as I believe we'll be using the Zoom Abug account that Judgebeeb registered, perhaps you could display it on your second laptop setup throughout the meeting, what do you ...

Re: Proposed format for future all-day "Virtual" Acorn events on Zoom

I'm thinking we could have one Zoom account that permanently displays a simplified version of the schedule throughout (see below, which also incorporates Ed's suggestions above). But does anyone know if it's possible for a user to replace their video feed with a screen-share of their desktop, witho...

Re: Hello from Bracknell

That does sound familiar. If I could find the box of tapes and bits I'm sure all the paperwork is still there. I bought the extra chips and power supply from there as well. from memory, you went to Edgware Road station then they were a short walk North in a little shop on the left hand side - they ...
