Re: Weird CMOS issue with old Athlon XP machine
Does this use a CR2032? These seem to be rather prone to loose contacts. yes, CR2032 - contacts are nice and clean and I've made sure they are making good contact with the battery Never seen a machine behave like it before - seen plenty of dead batteries, bad contacts and the occasional faulty CMOS...

Hi All, Got an old Shuttle SN41G2 PC with an Athlon XP 2700+ CPU and updated to the latest BIOS (problem existed with old BIOS as well) and am having issues with it keeping the CMOS settings - the behaviour is most odd! Originally I thought no problem old machine, off course the CMOS battery is goin...

Re: Windows 10 reinstall help needed
(a) if the machine came with Windows 7 and was upgraded to Windows 10 then when prompted for a product key click 'I do not have a key' then pick the correct version of Windows 10 (Home / Pro) - after install it will automatically activate using the hardware ID. Hopefully that also holds true for sy...

Re: Windows 10 reinstall help needed
They were saying you have to remove/disable all network adapters to make it appear now  Maybe that's it - something to do with when the WiFi card driver gets loaded during the install - if there's an active connection you have to log in, otherwise you can make a local account. Maybe. Who kno...

Re: TURBO MMC or GOTEK ?
Gotek. Every time, every day. For all the reasons above. It doesn't need to be expensive, you can get started with one from China for about £12 plus the cost of a USB A-USB A cable to program it (£3?). Adding an OLED display to it as described in the Wiki is another £3, and a rotary encoder perhaps...

Successes and failures with machine repairs
Well seeing I've not been able to work since the lockdown started I decided it was about time I started sorting out my collection of machines and attempting to fix known issues with them or carry out mods. I have had to learn how to solder again, not having touched a soldering iron for at least 10 y...

BBC Micro top case
Looking for a decent condition top case for a BBC Micro - don't mind if it is yellowed. Preferably the earlier rough finish (going on an Issue 3 machine), but a later one would be fine.

Re: BBC Model B not booting
I suggest you check the sockets for 6502 (IC1), the OS ROM (IC51), the sockets where any other ROMs are fitted (IC52, IC88, IC100, IC101) and maybe the socket for the ‘system’ 6522 (IC3). In all cases, you are looking visually for any sockets where the socket contacts have been bent, where the cont...
