Re: (Yet another) Memory Question

The dead bits show up as vertical lines in the diagonal sequence. Put it in 16k mode ( S25 ) south. This will let you see the upper 16k block. Run Tricky's test OS ROM.... Let it cycle through.. Take some quality close up photos of the right hand side of the screen, when the diagonal test is running...

Re: (Yet another) Memory Question

If the Mode 7 screen is corrupt then it could be IC5 SAA5050 Teletext Character Generator causing issues.

Re: (Yet another) Memory Question

I only get the vertical bars on both the working and faulty systems
That is strange because if the ROM is working correctly you would see it operate correctly on a working system.
You can test the image in Beebem to see the correct sequence.

Re: (Yet another) Memory Question

now I do get the first screen on the Test ROM output Is that a screen with mode 7 ( teletext ) style graphics? If you let the ROM go through its sequence... You should see several pages of vertical and then diagonal lines slowly progressing left to right. If you post photos of those screens we shou...

Re: (Yet another) Memory Question

Looks to me like there is a major issue...
The first screen, if the CPU is running, is a mode 7 Frogger screen with some audio and front LED pulsing.
So theres either something off with the clock or the CPU...
I'd go for swapping the CPU for a known good one and try the test ROM again.

Re: Multi-purpose podule with a Raspberry Pi

the PiPOD falls into the "completely pointless" category for me. It's essentially the equivalent of buying a sports car and then supergluing it to the inside of a truck.

That is the impression I had also

Thanks for the explanation phlamethrower.

measure with a piece of string and then deduct 10%
Yeah... Thinking about it that does sound more appropriate, given the difference in elasticity

Re: Cassette player maintenance

I have a cassette recorder which has the drive belt for the counter missing.
Trial and error with rubber bands until you get it responding... If there's no manual
Then... get a drive belt roughly the length of the rubber band or maybe a little shorter... Off of a fave auction site

Re: Cassette player maintenance

Hi Phil In my experience its a combination of uneven drive belt, 'sticky' rollers, tightly wound tapes and dirty heads... Sometimes you can 'free-up' drive belts and tight tapes by FF and RW a few times... ok 10 times  Head cleaner tape and IPA for dirty heads obviously... IPA for sticky roll...

Here it is ICL 014408 .... It was a right muck tub when I got it... Scrubbed up beautifully with the WE board still working. I replaced the sockets for turned pin ones and soldered them in whilst attached to the WE board so they line up perfectly  Marcus IMG_3641a.jpg IMG_3645a.jpg IMG_3649a.jpg

It looks like you set the range (RNG) and the actual frequency depends on the value of Cext and the pot.

Strangely pin 28 is not connected which, according to the SPO256, data sheet should be one side of the crystal

Would like to see some photos of the board (both sides), and the value of the crystal on there, thanks.
No problem. I'll get on it in the next few days
