PC Floppy Disk Drive with aid of a Gotek

I suspect this is obvious to everyone but me :D However, I thought I'd post as I couldn't find anything in the forums when I was researching it originally. I've historically had issues modifying the floppy cable to allow me to use a standard IBM PC floppy drive on an A7000/+. This is a problem for m...

Re: A7000 Motherboard Replacement Power Connector

In case anyone reads this and is wondering what the conclusion was... The pitch turned out to be 3.96mm and so I ended up getting these and cutting the clip off them. The pins are slightly shorter than the original ones but they seem to work perfectly well. https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/pcb-headers...

Re: A7000 Motherboard Replacement Power Connector

Keep in mind I only looked at one supplier. Do check other suppliers. E.g. CPC, Rapid Electronics, RS, and maybe some of the smaller independents like ESR. There is a thread on this forum somewhere where members list links to the suppliers they often use. Mark No worries. Based on your information ...

Re: A7000 Motherboard Replacement Power Connector

They look like 0.2” (5.08mm) pitch connectors. Very similar connectors are available, here is one example: https://uk.farnell.com/molex/10-08-5081/connector-header-8pos-1row-5-08mm/dp/2888906 Mark Thanks for the quick response. A7000 Motherboard Replacement Power Connector

Possibly not wise given my track record, but ignoring that I bought a couple more A7000 motherboards from Ebay in the hope that they have less faults than my other boards :D They appear clean and seem to have been cared for, so I have high hopes. The seller was very honest and noted that they were m...

Re: Networking: how to setup TCP/IP for an Oak Solutions ClassNet podule?

I'm glad to hear the EEPROM is working as intended. Sadly, you've reached the same sticking point as I did: the machine sends and recieves packets, but pings go unacknowledged. I suspect it's an issue with the software stack somewhere, but I don't know Acorn networking well enough (yet) to dive in ...

Re: Networking: how to setup TCP/IP for an Oak Solutions ClassNet podule?

Hi there, There are two ROMs on the board, a large parallel EPROM and a small serial EEPROM. The parallel ROM holds the modules for the board, and also identifies the board to the Archimedes. My (limited) understanding is that without the parallel EPROM present the Archimedes can't be told what it'...

Welcome, fellow ClassNetter! Thanks so much for replying. Erm... I had the choice of buying the ClassNet or an EtherR podule, thinking I made the wrong choice :) Although, based on a quote I just re-found it might not matter anyway. Thanks, thats really kind and I will probably take you up on it. I...

Re: Networking: how to setup TCP/IP for an Oak Solutions ClassNet podule?

When time permits I will document the steps more accurately (including jumpers on the podule, unplugged modules, etc.), perhaps someone else may benefit as I did. If anyone does know the steps then I'd be grateful. I thought I'd have a go with one of these as they are still cheap and I wanted an ex...

Re: A confused A7000

Sorry to confuse things about the A7000+. My point was that the A7000+ didn't have that splash screen and I expected the A7000 and A7000+ to have similar ones. I would have thought that the ART logo was only used for certain upgrades. The ROMs that I use in RPCEmu are for RISC OS 3.71 (19 Feb 1997)...

Re: A confused A7000

Strange. The A7000+ doesn't have an ART boot splash screen like that. I wonder if the ROM is a replacement from another system. I love playing with them but am not very good with Acorns, however I believe the original (ART) pictures to be from an A7000 board and not an A7000+. While I do also have ...

Re: A confused A7000

The A7000+ was released after ART was closed iirc, so the relevant RISC OS (3.71?) doesn't have an ART banner. This machine looks to have been upgraded to 3.7, though I had thought that version could detect the ARM7500. Apologies for the delay in replying. I also have a partially working A7000+ boa...

If you want a guaranteed working board, CJE Micros is probably your best bet - not cheap but it will be working, so probably cheaper in the end than gambling on eBay ones

The others probably have RISC OS 3.6 in that case?

RISC OS 3.7 introduced the Advanced Risc Technologies boot screen, along with the processor display at startup.
Ah yep, that is the case.

Re: A confused A7000

The ARM7500 is basically a 710 System-on-a-chip (a-la ARM250 so has all the IOMD and VIDC built into it), so as far as the OS is concerned it's a 710 :) d. Thanks for the quick reply, that makes sense. I wondered why it stood out. Guess the others boards don't print it so I hadn't seen it before :)

I've been going back through the motherboards I have to see if any work and found this one which confuses me... although that is easily done :D Its an A7000 board, 4mb memory but it looks a little different to the others: * The board is a lighter shade of green with more distinct white print on it. ...

I'm interested in buying an Acorn A7000 motherboard, if anyone knows of a cheapish one for sale.

I'm not having a lot of luck finding a working one. I've bought a few off Ebay which all had issues :(

Re: A7000+ revival, pointers on where to start

I bought a 120mb IDE drive. Plugged it in... the A7000 booted without error and HForm identified it, then "drive not ready" when trying to format it. Subsequent boots... same error. So the pattern is that the first time it sees the drive it boots without error, having done the same with the CF adapt...

Re: A7000+ revival, pointers on where to start

On the circuit diagrams, watch for resistors marked "NF" for "Not Fitted", R142 on the RISC PC diagram is marked as "NF", So pin 95 and 100 should be unconnected, and 95 should be connected to 0V(GND) via R4. Thanks, I hadn't realised that. Following the same through on the diagram makes sense now....
