Hi Matthew

I have some spare 5.25 drives.
Mostly Viglen 40/80 double sided single drives though.
If you're interested I'll dig one out, clean it up and test it.

Marcus
That would be great Marcus, thank you. :)

WANTED: BBC 5.25in Disc drive

Hi, desperate for a WORKING 5.25in disc drive for BBC.
Not bothered whether slim or the larger model, bit would prefer a "BBC" branded model.

**** NOW SORTED - THANKS! ****

Thanks and regards

Re: WANTED: Case and Function key plastic

If it's of any use, I once successfully removed permanent marker from an Apple Powerbook 180c using toothpaste and a piece of paper towel. I think it works as a very mild abrasive that removes the ink from the surface of the plastic, in a way that doesn't affect the surface texture. Thank you - any...

And if that fails, I have a complete BBC B case that is slightly yellowed with no external writing or ex-school markings on it ... comes with a fairly clear function key strip and an intact ashtray. Shout or PM me if needed/wanted/drooling for it to head in your direction accompanied by a friendly ...

Hi Matthew

Just a thought... Have you tried IPA on the writing or is it chiselled in...

Marcus
Hello Marcus
I have only done the old "peroxide + UV" thing. Seems to lighten the case slighty, but will not shift the writing.
I assume it's a permanent marker.

Thank you
Matthew

WANTED: Case and Function key plastic

Hello fellow forumers (is that a word ...?!?!) So, I am on the scrounge/hunt for: 1. A new top case for BBC Model B (the one I have has been written on by whoever owned i last, so not ideal!) 2. The plastic function key strip. I have managed to snap the one I have - great! Super glue goes so far but...

Re: BBC Model B Issue 7 video problems

C1 and C2 (the two X2 types) don’t look like the originally fitted capacitors. They are too clean and the larger value has square edges (the older version has rounded corners). So they have been replaced at some time. Failure of these does not cause any electrical damage, other than the mess (goo) ...

Re: BBC Model B Issue 7 video problems

It was indeed IC55!!!! (memory bit 2 - 4 decimal), took some diagnosing and careful soldering, but I got there and worked first time! Used this info (that also thanks 1024MAK) along with your info above. https://mrpjevans.com/bbc-micro-model-b-memory-repair/ However, I do have one more question plea...

Thank you DutchAcorn and Tricky, your time is very much appreciated! I will deffo take a look at this tonight - I understand that this is to check which 16K bank the fault is in?
