Re: 'Doctor Who and the Warlord' text adventure hints/solutions?

The Solution Archive version is just the raw solution without the extra FAQ stuff. Still pending. Give me chance! :D Thanks to that timed endgame sequence, I appear to have developed some kind of intense anxiety concerning how fast my words are being recieved. Well, that's all sorted. Time for the ...

Re: 'Doctor Who and the Warlord' text adventure hints/solutions?

Okay, I've finally got my final edits together and have submitted it to both the Solution Archive and GameFAQs (both submissions currently pending). They're both under my other online handle I use for Dr. Who stuff. Anyway, I've kept everyone waiting long enough so here you go! Brace yourself for th...

Would you mind also submitting to http://solutionarchive.com/ or give me permission to add what you dump here to that site? Thanks.
Thanks for the link, I'll definitely do that. This is my first walkthrough so I wasn't really sure where you post them.

Re: The Warlord (1988), Acorn User (via BBC Soft)

Excellent work! I've been experimenting with it a little bit and haven't noticed too many differences so far. They've tweaked some systems to try and make them more convenient. For example, in the original you would have to enter this: unscrew bulb, unscrew disc, get bulb, get disc if you wanted the...

Re: 'Doctor Who and the Warlord' text adventure hints/solutions?

Thanks! I'm just waiting for GameFAQs to accept my submission (I included a special thanks to you in there for helping me through that nightmare, hope you don't mind). I'm a little dubious about their site since they've listed the game incorrectly as being for the ZX Spectrum. If it doesn't work out...

Re: 'Doctor Who and the Warlord' text adventure hints/solutions?

Congratulations fancytimes on finally ending your ordeal. I must admit, watching from the sidelines, and having started playing the game myself, that I'm a little put off by the difficulty of some of the puzzles in part 2 (although you did manage to finish it so that gives me hope). I have one ques...

Re: 'Doctor Who and the Warlord' text adventure hints/solutions?

It's worse than you thought - you don't finish the game with 99% and then wonder what you missed. You're stopped from completing the game at 99%, pending one last "guess or you're dead" encounter. Killing this last guy is the final 1%. The hints are no help, unless there's an item I needed...

Re: 'Doctor Who and the Warlord' text adventure hints/solutions?

Spoilers for part 2 below if anyone cares. Plus lots and lots of whining. Okay, I'm 80% through the game (30% into part 2). I'm pretty sure that 100% hint you were worried about was referring to a room in the endgame area. There's an item under a map in the study, which lines up fairly well with &q...

Re: The Warlord (1988), Acorn User (via BBC Soft)

This is simultaneously the neatest and cruelest thing I've seen someone do on a message board. =D>

If I make it through the original version with my sanity intact, I'll check this out.

Re: 'Doctor Who and the Warlord' text adventure hints/solutions?

Making some progress on this game now. I now face a choice on where to spend a penny. If I get it wrong I suppose I'll hit a dead end but probably won't know it. Do I pay the gypsy, the barmaid or the market seller with my coin ? (by the way, I don't count this as cheating, just sanity preservation...

Re: 'Doctor Who and the Warlord' text adventure hints/solutions?

I've made a start with this game and it's a bit tricky to say the least. I've noticed there are a few mazes, it didn't take me long to retrieve something from the desert but without being able to map the other mazes by dropping objects I can't tell if they're just there to act as a boundary or whet...

Re: 'Doctor Who and the Warlord' text adventure hints/solutions?

Maybe it's just that the few text adventures I've played through were different, but suddenly expecting me to go outside of the standard command + object for stuff like "speak French" or "take taper softly" really rubbed me the wrong way. Plus, how exactly does one take a taper l...

Re: 'Doctor Who and the Warlord' text adventure hints/solutions?

Don't say we didn't warn you, this game is a particularly obnoxious flavor of hell. Speaking of which, between parts 1 and 2 the developers seem to have discovered a new kind of 'puzzle' that involves neither the listed commands or your inventory items - instead we get to partake in the joys of gues...

Re: 'Doctor Who and the Warlord' text adventure hints/solutions?

I already forgot, but I think reading the various hints the Doctor left you in part 1 contributed to your percentage, so I'm really hoping it's referring to something of that nature. "If you study" certainly seems to suggest that, and perhaps the mapwork line indicates that you have to be ...

Re: 'Doctor Who and the Warlord' text adventure hints/solutions?

That is incredibly helpful, thank you so much. This game is infuriating because the puzzles are relatively easy, but finding the order in which you need to solve them can be nearly impossible. Just knowing that I need to save the lance's charge for the late game (where I am now) is exactly what I ne...

Thanks for the fast reply! The magazines files I found are AcornUser 073 (Aug88) and AcornUser 074 (Sep88). Re: 'Doctor Who and the Warlord' text adventure hints/soluti

I just finished part A (using emulator). So tell me what the problem is, maybe I can help ! Sorry to bump a 12 year old thread, but I'm stuck hard at 40% in this game. I'm trying to return to the Tardis after buying back the Dr's fob watch but the bandits (yet again) keep stopping me. I gave in and...
