Re: Replica Atom

On Signature Plastics site , you can count an average of about $100 for a custom keycaps set approaching the original. That makes already an Atom replica expensive. It would be better to rethink a new Atom as a simple box with a separate standart PC keyboard on USB or PS/2 and do all in software. Ex...

Try Signature Plastics SA keycap family with "Gorton Modified" font.

Different key Profiles (SA is taller):

Re: Replica Atom

Think this board is more important than a simple amusement because it fixes the dimensions and placements inside the original case. Furthermore evolutions like roland's 2k15, FPGA Atom (aka 2k18) or something else can be put on the upper part with a Cherry keyboard. It must be recognized that no com...

Re: Replica Atom

I just said the Eagle files of the Replica Atom could be the base of something new. The original Atom keyboard or its pieces become rare. Printers use USB now instead of PL6, dont need PL7 for a disk pack but rather memory cards, 2114 chips take a lot of place for 12k only, etc... All inside is outd...

Re: Replica Atom

It could be interesting to retrofit this PCB to an ATom replacement board by modifying completely the upper part and use original holes in case to output USB, HDMI, DB9,... Integrration ot Goddil, Yarb, MMC on board.
Will you publish your Eagle / Kicad files ?

Re: Replica Atom

I think it would be a good idea to rearange the circuitry in such a way that the keyboard be clearly separated from the upper board so that it could be saw and reutilized for other projects. Grouping the keyboard circuitry like for a flat cable or bridge at some place.

MSXVR - The new MSX standart

Ok this is NOT an FPGA, but this thing has great potential: msxvr 1.png The MSXVR (MSX Virtualizer), coming from Spain, is currently in production after a pre-order campaign. Its specs are absolutely estonishing. No FPGA choosen but virtualization on a raspberry pi 3B+ and a custom board. After some...

Re: Atom poll

My atom is carefully stored in a closet as a historical relic. The cassette interface makes its use very laborious now. I want to preserve it as original without cutting or martyring it definitively. Therefore, I am rather for a total and more modern replacement solution by keeping only the software...

Re: Atom on FPGA based retro-computers

I think it should be possible to use the new Amiga FPGA Vampire v4 as a standalone platform for an Atom / BBC evolution. The card implements a virtual 68080 @ 93 Mhz named " Appolo Core " and all is done in the Altera Cyclone V FPGA so reprogrammable. Inputs / outputs are rather complete. 512 Mo DDR...

For the KimKlone computer, there is a description of 16MB linear adressing with a 6502 without a MMU. It adds 4 x 8bits registers K0, K1, K2 and K3 to the 16bits PC to support 24bits addresses. Pages are 64K. And uses undefined 6502 op-codes to associate them with new K-instructions. Think it could ...

Some critics:
- The font size is generally too big and produces line breaks in many listings
- The alternate margin for binding has disappeared, which was convenient for those wishing to have a paper version of the manuals.

Re: Atom 2k18 ?

Hem. I would like to point out that there is another (clever) way by using one Parallax Propeller chip with a 6502. This simplify greatly the PCB. Then you program the Propeller in Spin language to manage your I/O Do a search on Google to see many projects with 6502/65C816 + Propeller. Examples: L-S...

Re: Atom 2k18 ?

Burning or welding a PCB are out of my material possibilities like most users. Commercial FPGA cards do not interest me. I should want a custom board that can run Atom and Bbc with more advanced possibilities (sound, graphics, text mode). FPGA + 6502/6512 + ???? could be a solution. The Atom keyboar...

Your project is restricted to few people having parts or beyond repair.
You should reconsider it for a wider audience and new people come to Atom / Bbc

Re: Atom 2k18 ?

I dont know if some ideas could be taken from the V6Z80P+ retro-computer by Phil Ruston of retroleum.co.uk Project ended in 2014 but globaly could have same architecture by replacing the Z80 by a 6502. Uses a PIC for I/O. Also, I dont see why you want to place the board inside an Atom case cutting t...

In fact, you can do the same with a MISTICA FPGA, a PC keyboard and an Atom core taken/adapted from the Mist.
