Re: MSXVR - Modern MSX to run a BBC virtual machine

I like the white versions given by retrobright treatment on old cases. Acorn-Bbc-Master-128K.jpg Here a white proto (the 88 keys then could be customized by language and color to match the BBC): msxvr_white.png A first step would be to make a virtual BBC machine inside their software. Technicaly, it...

Re: MSXVR - Modern MSX to run a BBC virtual machine

You can ask directly to Alberto De Hoyo Nebot. Here what he responded to me: Thank you for asking about the MSXVR possibilities. Yes, It is not a problem to give support to the Acorn-ATOM machines and other BBC models. The Box Color WHITE/CREAM won't be a problem if I could produce 50-100 of them. D...

maximite_2_first_impressions.jpg Color Maximite 2 - Unboxing & First Impressions It is australian version with the ARM board directly integrated. You can see how fast graphics are in Basicc. Good too the printed manual. Perhaps the GPIO connector could be better on top of the case to use RaspPi hat...

Vidéo explaining why the RPI3B+ choice instead of the RPI4 (in English starting at 15.52 ).
Why not a Banana Pi with SATA ?

Re: Atom and FPGA based retro-computers

Not an FPGA, but Geoff Graham and co had just released the new version 2 of Maximite Colour Computer . The machine is always simple, very fast (270.000 lines of Basic interpreted in 1 sec). Kit or pre-assembled for 85 pounds. There are some versions with direct integration of the ARM. And Im wonderi...

Re: New Acorn 8bit? Should there be one?

Better than that is to completely change RiscOS from cooperative to full preemptive kernel. I see 2 options: Minix or μC/OS with a preference for the second. These kernels are simple, academic for students, C-written, 5000 lines of reliable code. Micrium also has a GUI which could inspire the out da...

Re: New Acorn 8bit? Should there be one?

All this is stupid. I consider another approach: you already have the descendant of all Acorn machines, this is the Rasp Pi. Imagine having a motherboard carrying a standart Pi 3/4 with Risc OS running emulators for every previous machines like DOSBox do it on Windows. You have an AtomBox, BBCBox, E...

The solution seems so flexible that I think it is mostly a strong Pi running virtual machines on a small Linux kernel (in real-time ?).

Re: Replica Atom

On Signature Plastics site , you can count an average of about $100 for a custom keycaps set approaching the original. That makes already an Atom replica expensive. It would be better to rethink a new Atom as a simple box with a separate standart PC keyboard on USB or PS/2 and do all in software. Ex...

Re: Replica Atom

Think this board is more important than a simple amusement because it fixes the dimensions and placements inside the original case. Furthermore evolutions like roland's 2k15, FPGA Atom (aka 2k18) or something else can be put on the upper part with a Cherry keyboard. It must be recognized that no com...

Re: Replica Atom

I just said the Eagle files of the Replica Atom could be the base of something new. The original Atom keyboard or its pieces become rare. Printers use USB now instead of PL6, dont need PL7 for a disk pack but rather memory cards, 2114 chips take a lot of place for 12k only, etc... All inside is outd...

Re: Replica Atom

It could be interesting to retrofit this PCB to an ATom replacement board by modifying completely the upper part and use original holes in case to output USB, HDMI, DB9,... Integrration ot Goddil, Yarb, MMC on board.
Will you publish your Eagle / Kicad files ?

Re: Replica Atom

I think it would be a good idea to rearange the circuitry in such a way that the keyboard be clearly separated from the upper board so that it could be saw and reutilized for other projects. Grouping the keyboard circuitry like for a flat cable or bridge at some place.
