Re: Replacement 20mm mouse balls

Pelago’s comment about the spring loosing tension inspired me to open up and investigate the problematic mouse that I got with my A410/1... It’s one of the early designs - the ball is held on with a diagonal retainer and a single screw on the base, unlike the later Logitech mice where there is a rou...

Re: Archimedes A410/1 keyboard - strange defect

Success! Buzzed the four x/y mouse lines back to the three MM74HCetc chips OK, started pondering what the other pins on MM74HC175N did - discovered pin 9 needed a clock signal - wondered where that was from (the large square component with four pins?) then realised that the lack of solder on the top...

Re: Archimedes A410/1 keyboard - strange defect

I think we can eliminate the mouse as a suspect... The mouse used is a known good one from my A3000. To be doubly sure, I just tried my good RiscPC mouse with the A410/1 and it caused exactly the same problem when swapped in. It’s got to be either the keyboard or the base unit... something that happ...

Re: Archimedes A410/1 keyboard - strange defect

Voltage over pins 20 and 40... After boot but before crash 4.69V During the event that causes the error - still 4.69V After the event - still 4.69V I wasn’t able to cause the problem with the mouse disconnected, which suggests to me that the key pushes may have just been vibrations through to the mo...

Re: Archimedes A410/1 keyboard - strange defect

I just turned it back on just now, and had to do a delete power on after perhaps, two hours. Actually, delete power on only worked the second time. First power up I tried - the mouse pointer does freeze of its own accord after a few seconds. Second power up - kept going until I clicked a mouse butto...

Archimedes A410/1 keyboard - strange defect

Hi - I wonder if anyone could suggest what might be going on here... I recently acquired a 1MB RISC OS 2 A410/1 with I/O podule, Beebug disc buffer and RISC Developments IDE interface. It was very heavily impregnated with tobacco fumes and the foam on the fan had completely disintegrated, but everyt...

Re: hi purchased an a3000 ide drive and need help

Looking at the eBay listing you link to, I bought the same thing last year. If you don’t know, 4D Pi shop is the eBay selling arm of CJE Micros - see bottom of the listing for contact details. I had to phone up after my purchase, but they helped me get it sorted out quickly. You will find most of th...

Re: A3000 : what do people use to transfer files to it?

When I first resuscitated my A3000, I also took it up to 4MB, and also fitted an IDE interface with 512MB Compact Flash card. I had also fitted a ZIDEFS to my RiscPC, so I filled up the card on the RiscPC and moved it over. Later, I fitted both with Econet and now use that for file transfer. Some pe...

Re: RiscPC lost network access

Nothing unusual in the way of IDE devices. Just the original 210MB hard disc. Currently it's on Risc OS 5.22, and I softload Risc OS 5.23 if I want to use ADFFS, then reset Boot to get back to 5.22 so I can restore network connectivity. Bit of a pain - but at least it works. Actually, there is also ...

Re: RiscPC lost network access

I (seem to have) cracked it! After playing around with various configuration options within the RiscPC, I was at the point where I could ping my router, but nothing attached to my router. I thought it was worth investigating the router, so I used my Windows PC to log into it and check the device lis...

Re: RiscPC lost network access

Once again, thanks for all the help... The ethernet cable is is definitely OK - I've checked it on my Raspberry Pi. The network card has been checked and is firmly pushed in. Boots up fine with ethernet cable disconnected. Then plug in ethernet cable... *pi...

Re: RiscPC lost network access

Yes - it's an i-cubed card. RISC OS 5 on ROM. Can either soft-load 5.23, or revert to 5.22. I've run the ROM install for EtherH that came with the NIC drivers from ROOL ("!EthLanPRG") (is this what you mean by flashing 32bit EtherH and CLib? I know is flashes something to the network card), and also...

Re: RiscPC lost network access

That sounds like it involves a big download of a !Boot setup from ROOL? The only way I can get any files into my RiscPC is on 3.5 inch disc (hence the desire to network it!) Oh, and my desktop PC doesn't have a floppy drive... so it's download onto a USB stick, transfer to my ancient (Tiny!) laptop,...

RiscPC lost network access

Can anyone shed some light on what might be happening here? A few weeks ago (at the ROUGOL show) I bought a network card for my 37MB RiscPC 600. After I had got the updated NIC drivers from ROOL, I followed the instructions at http://www.riscos.org/networking/riscos.html and got it working quite hap...

Re: ArcEm on Pi - "Rom High..." error

I decided that for the sake of a tenner it was worth buying the Classic RISC OS ROMs collection from risc os.com, rather than mess around with making the four images merge properly.

ArcEm now started OK!

Thanks for the advice.

Re: ArcEm on Pi - "Rom High..." error

Thanks for the advice. I stitched the four ROM images together at the DOS prompt, because when I tried the RISC OS command line method that the ArcEm manual suggested, I was left with a file that was shorter than one of the originals. So a few bytes going astray could be the problem then... I will h...

ArcEm on Pi - "Rom High..." error

I've just downloaded ArcEm v1.50.2 for my new Raspberry Pi 2 running RISC OS 5.23. I've merged my 4 RISC OS 3.10 ROM images together as "ROM" (size 2135241) and put in in !ArmEm's application folder. When I try and run !ArcEm, I get an error message, "ROM High isn't power of 2 in size". Can anyone t...
