Re: Vectorlight's A3010 IDE mod : step by step guide

I haven't done much on my Acorns for a while so yesterday I thought I'd try to apply this IDE modification to an Adelaide machine: http://www.vectorlight.net/assets/images/retro/a3010-ide-modification/v1-1/adelaide/_/original/0/a3010-adelaide-harddrive-mod Making it fit with the ARM3 upgrade was a c...

I tend to stick to 512mb sandisk cards. They usually work, though not all of them I'm afraid.

Re: A5000 woes

I had a similar dead A5000 recently with the usual battery damage. The fault with mine was the ACT74 (IC61?) chip that feeds the 25mhz signal was dead. I suppose if you have a scope, you could check the clock pin on the ARM3?

Fixing up a ST506

Hi All, I want to see if it is possible to get an old Rodime ST506 drive working. Currently when turned on the disc spins up but after a few seconds the head makes a load noise and the drive just shuts down. Is there any recommended guides for fixing up one of these drives or shall I just throw it a...

Try a set of test roms, should tell you which chip is faulty (it did for me)

A440 Long RAM test failure

Hi All, Can anybody explain what a "Long RAM test failure" is? When turning my A440 on it flashes the floppy drive with this fault. When it has finished it continues and boots to the RO 3.1 desktop and seems to work okay. I always thought that any RAM test failure would prevent the machine booting a...

A5000 Only Showing 1MB of RAM

Hi All, I'm attempting to fix one of my A5000's that has been sat in the loft for a while. It suffered from the usual battery leak but I've cleaned it up and repaired some of the tracks around the RTC chip area and the computer boots to the desktop okay. The only problem is it reports only 1MB of RA...

I've had 2 issues with the A3010 PSU dishing out the wrong voltage and in both instances was fixed by replacing the 2 big electrolytic caps (C10 & C17 I think) :D

Really ? So which one did you use in your 26 Mhz machine ? Sorry I forgot. The Micron RAM can do 26.5mhz. It can probably do faster but the ARM250 doesn't like anything faster than that. :D https://www.aliexpress.com/item/MT4C1M16C3DJ-5-Z-new-and-original-quality-assurance-welcome-to-buy/1912718075...

20mhz max for these Aliance RAM's. They don't overclock at all, but 20mhz is just what I want in my adelaide machine as MEMC can't go faster than 20mhz anyway :D

If the cap looks okay and doesn't look like its leaked I tend to rock them side to side until they snap off. Even if they look okay I replaced them as there's no telling when they'll leak and they are getting old now. For others that look like they've leaked, a hot air station, even then some of the...

Leaky SMD Caps - How to avoid?

In a couple of my machines (A4/A5000) are those annoying SMD silver caps that, in my experience, seem to leak gunk all over the PCB in these machines. Having sorted out the A4 I was wondering what the best practices are for storing these machines to try to avoid the caps leaking again in the future?...

I had something similar a while ago and I think it was pin 10 of the floppy connector (Sel0*), which if I recall, had a factory mod wire/resistor on it that had become disconnected. I'm not around this week so cannot say for sure
