I’m still very happy with my Weller WECP from 1983.
50W of power, temperature controlled, and a fair amount of tips and it keeps going.

Re: PLCC Chip Extractor

I still use a PLCC extractor which dates back to the nineties.
It still does a nice job even after extracting so many PLCC chips.
I can’t recall how much it cost but as always: good tools are half the work.

BBC-B iss.4 PSU odd capacitors

Folks, at the moment I'm working on a BBC-C iss. 4. First point of attention is of course the PSU caps. This is where I was a bit puzzeled as the PSU is different from the ones I normaly have. Acorn BBC PSU Iss 4 marked.jpg C1,C2 and C9 are marked. Normally you expect the yellowish square ones but n...

Re: Yarrb - redesigned

Folks, fine pitch smd components soldering is done either with hot air but applying solder on the pads is a tricky one. Normally a stencil is used as applying the solding by hand is difficult. The other way is ensuring all solderpads are clean and even. Next align the smd component and fix it by sol...

Re: just got two Atom's

Hi Paul, sorry for being a bit unclear, Yes I was refering to a Atom DiscPack. I've already sorted it out. The drive needs a +12Vdc and a +5Vdc. The groundwire was broken loose. It was a bit messy so I've jumped to conclusions to soon, my bad  But thanks for reaching out. And yes I'm picking u...

And the Prophet system. Not sure if it is a true Prophet version as the return key is normal without being larger. A couple of sockets are precission ones an indication of a Prophet version. System memory has been increased and also the video memory. The 5 1/4 FDD has a default powerconnector with o...

Re: just got two Atom's

the first Atom was brought back to basic with the help of Multiwizard. The original powersupply has been bypassed. The thing I need to figure out is video. I simply connected the composite video signal from JP4 to a scartplug which connects to my LCD monitor. I only have the Atom prompt if I tilt th...

just got two Atom's

Folks, after many years I finally succeeded in aquiring two Atom's incl. a 5 1/4 FDD. As I'm a newbie to Atom's I had quite a discussion with Multiwizard who kindly took the time helping exploring my Atom's. I had an Atom with green text on the back, a Atom with red text on the back, red shift keys ...

Re: Help Needed with 6502 Second Processor

Dave,

As you’ve spotted a damage wire you might strip the wire around the damage and solder a wire as a bypass.
This way you can easily check if this is the only fault.
You need to be careful and a bit handy with soldering.

fading characters

Folks, recently I purchased a BBC from the UK and started the normal process by first checking the PSU caps which needed to be replaced. When I turned the Beeb on I was puzzled as I saw fading characters. Pic-20190113-001.jpg After browsing the forum and google I found nothing similar, or I entered t...

I use the Siglent SDS1102X, 100MHz, dual channel scope.
As an option I have decoding I2C, SPI, UART's.
Also it offers a 16bit MSO, which is a 16bit logic analyser as an option.

Re: Soldering and Hotair station options

I use either Weller or Pace smd rework stations for many years now and I’m still happy. Maybe a bit higher priced but it is worth it. I started with the 1206 components and QFP opackages but the increase number of pins and decrease of pin space are going fast. So you really need the proper soldering...

I've a shortage in the 12V circuit and this will help me finding the faulty component.

And yes google didn't turned up anything as the drive is from the eighties :D

Thanks,

Etienne
