Re: BBC A3000 + Watford Electronics ARM3 - installation woes

As the one benefiting from shock's awesome work/skills, I can report that all works perfectly now! Thanks alot. There are not many - certainly not in germany- that could and WOULD go through such a hassle ;-) I am attaching some specs-info screenshots :) Thanks alot to shock and also this community ...

Re: Starting a Prince of Persia port...

Would not the C64 version be reasonable to consider?

While it does use extensive cartridge memory for some speed code to handle bitmap gfx I believe it's coder would be willing to help with certain things.
There is a blog, too:

Re: A4 Laptop No Display

I replaced all the caps on mine which didn't fix the freezing issue but its a lot better than it was
Oh, that line was very depressing. So the freezing/IRQ stoccato is not well understood at all?
Hmm. I will have to think what to do next. I need a certain degree of trust in the hardware I use :)

Re: A4 Laptop No Display

thanks for the reply! Oh man... I really wanted to avoid capacitor replacement ;-( Is there any thread on this issue? And possible one on how to replace them best? All of them? Anyone ever made a dedicated list already? :) I was already considering to simply sell this off but now that I found all th...

Re: A4 Laptop No Display

Sorry for the double post. Update: After a couple of tries (I still wonder why?) and disconnecting the VGA cable it booted into LCD screen with that same battery error message but at least without flashing and beeping so I could simply click OK. The booting did not react to 'R' or 'DELETE' it seems....

Re: A4 Laptop No Display

Hi, tonight I finally had the time to solder in the new battery. It behaves somewhat unstable in when it boots into what but after having kept it OFF for a while it now booted into graphical desktop (!YAY) but immediately the whole screen flashes (all black to RISCOS with a message window). There is...

Re: A4 Laptop No Display

I checked the battery in more detail this weekend.
It seems to provide merely 0.4V these days so I removed it. A replacement is on its way.
The CMOS chip I did not replace yet, even though new parts had arrived already at least.
It even looks like it WAS replaced once by someone - what do you think?

Re: A4 Laptop No Display

The CMOS IC itself seems to get 4.6V or something like that.
I will carefully trace this along and wait for the IC replacement and CMOS battery to arrive before I can hope to fix all this...

Re: A4 Laptop No Display

Ok,
I ordered the PCF8583T
and in the meantime will measure the operating voltages on the PCB.
I have no scope unfortunately but let's see where this leads now.
So it should normally boot up into RISC OS?
And only when I run with DELETE it should launch in SUPERVISOR mode?

Re: A4 Laptop No Display

Thank you all so much for your support. I did power up while holding DELETE. All of this with the internal keyboard that (except for the mentioned freezes later) worked quite well on all keys. Always booting into the prompt. So not the CMOS battery but the chip itself could be the issue here? (well,...

Re: A4 Laptop No Display

Wow, thanks! So the code is: 00010059 which translates into nothing serious actually it seems. CMOS unreadable * PC-Style IO detected ARM3 fitted Long MEM test performed Self-test due to power on. I attached a VGA system as I saw that the CAPS led reacted to the Keyboard. And WHOA, there was an actu...

Re: A4 Laptop No Display

Hi everyone. I also own a non-functioning A4. It used to run well (after I replaced the slighly fault LCD screen and added a CF card harddrive). But last time I tried switching it on, not much happened. LEDs went on, heard some humming of the speaker and that was it. Starting with 'R' pressed seemed...
