Re: OSWORD &7F on DFS vs MMFS

Actually, it seems it didn't, at least not on the Model B. Oops, oh dear, that's definitely my bad, as they say. I'm slightly disappointed that no-one complained about it for the last two years. #-o Looks like 2 sectors reads is the way to go, at least for 'fast' devices (will need to test o...

Re: OSWORD &7F on DFS vs MMFS

I had a quick look at Teletext Bad Apple this afternoon (as I wanted to test the ICE-6502 in anger). On a Model B with the latest MMFS (1.44) it crashes consistently at 00:54 due to the ring buffer underflowing. Looking at why this might be, I noticed for "fast" devices the player is dynamically pa...

Re: OSWORD &7F on DFS vs MMFS

I still need to close the loop with Kieron on the Bad Apple / MMFS issues, so this may end up changing back again. Happy to do this at ABUG next weekend, a good opportunity to get to the bottom of it with the right people in the room! I also have a sneak peak of a new streaming demo so quite timely...

I’m sure there are some practical posts on here or maybe the old RetroSoftware programming forum. Otherwise check out the technical details on BeebWiki: http://beebwiki.mdfs.net/Address_translation#TTX_VDU

Re: Mode 7 flip between pages

It’s been long established that with CRTC linear addressing mode, as used for MODE 7, the screen address is generally restricted to the top 1024 bytes of lower RAM, so &7C00 to &7FFF. However on Model B there is also a mapping to &3C00 which can be used for buffer swapping. Sadly this isn’t availabl...

Re: OSWORD &7F on DFS vs MMFS

Sounds like a bug/regession in MMFS/ Can you provide a few more details please, so I can try to replicate: - version of MMFS that doesn't work - version of MMFS that does work (if you can remember) - hardware configuration (Beeb, Master, etc) - brand of SD card - link to the version of the Bad Appl...

Re: OSWORD &7F on DFS vs MMFS

I can’t answer your questions #-o but I do have some to add of my own. The Teletext Bad Apple demo uses OSWORD &7F for multi-sector reads and used to work fine on MMFS (in fact I recall I had to make some changes to the way the streaming worked to accommodate) but I haven’t been able to get it runni...

Prince of Persia has a cutscene and a short gameplay sequence on loop. The music gets a bit grating but you can turn the volume down with CTRL+cursor down!

Re: BBC b, reading the CRT vertical sync position.

(Sorry, only a quick reply as I’m on a train.) Glad you found my write up useful. It’s not possible to read the vertical position of the raster from a CRTC register. *FX19 waits for the vertical sync interrupt which typically occurs a few rows after the end of the visible part of the screen has been...

Electron Plus 3 PSU with vanilla Elk?

Hey all, a quick question - is it safe to use the black 21V PSU for an Electron Plus 3 with a regular Electron without the Plus 3 attached? I don't have the original cream wall-wart power supply but want to remove my Plus 3 for a bit. Thought I'd check in case I'm going to fry the little thing. If n...

With the relatively low sales numbers for Acorn machines (vs ZX Spectrum and C64 at least), I imagine authors were incentivised to crank them out in hope of a big hit!

Re: Having difficulty with TurboSPI

Just FYI that although POP and SCR do blatantly abuse the 12K of HAZEL (FS) RAM they do try and step around the areas that are known to be used in a standard Master DFS/MMFS setup that leaves PAGE at &E00.

I think SCR even works on ADFS thanks to Tom Seddon!

Re: Having difficulty with TurboSPI

Hey 0xC0DE, I'm surprised Twisted Brain loads (!) but in general having PAGE at &1900 on a Master is going to cause problems with more advanced software like Stunt Car Racer (and Prince of Persia) that requires PAGE at &E00 and all 4x available slots of SWRAM (plus ANDY and a chunk of HAZEL for good...

Re: Testing all RAM in a Master 128

Can you post a screenshot? My bad but TB kinda assumes a fresh boot in either MODE 7 or one of the 20K screen modes. Too much testing on an emulator rather than real hw! If you have the VLSI variant 6845 CRTC chip then it is known not to behave ‘correctly’ compared to the other manufacturers, eg Hit...

Does this SEGA gun work like a NES Zapper or like a more ‘modern’ lightgun?

Alas, people, Viper21 was a reincarnation of a user who was previously banned for trolling. Suffice to say this was another one of his lo-fi attempts and he's been banned again. Yes some fast RAM is essential for WHDload. Don't even bother trying to load WB 3.1.4 without some fast RAM. Get a CF to PCMCIA adapter because you can install fat95 & CFD and mount a fat32 formatted CF card as a hard disk - I bought the cheapest from eBay and it works just fine. If you get fast RA...
