Re: Unreleased games

Re: Tales of Anubus

There's a similar looking game on the Panasonic 3DO called Seal of the Pharaoh, not sure if there's some relation. 3DO is also ARM and a lot of the major title unreleased games you mention made it onto that system, maybe developers went over to that??

Re: Early 8-Channel Music Uploaded (!Tracker Module)

VIDC supported 8 channel so I assume that's why it was probably the first home computer to do so. VIDC can actually do more channels since the samplerate is dependent on a division of the IO clock, it's only limited on the stereo panning to 8 channels. Only trouble is every time you add a slice to ...

=D> If you could have the name Archimedes and or Acorn in the title that'd be great ... Unfortunately YT limits the length of the title. But it is mentioned in the description, since having a sequencer like AMCS running on 8MHz is really good for the embedded angle of the system. Also parallel deve...

Re: Question about MEMC translation tables reprogramming

IIRC, if you look at the NewReset in RISC OS source, it has the "BangCAM" routines in there. I gather everything is mapped in logical from the end of "memory" backward to keep it out of the way, I think the stack is probably mapped first since R13 is initialised 0, so as it wraps from STM/LDMFD it's...

Re: Newly acquired A3000

I use a GBS-82xx board to get full screen VGA output, they're pretty cheap, only thing you'll need to do is wire a 9-pin d-type to the RGBHV input lead.

Re: MIDI Sequencing software for A3020

Okay, just an update, I've tried various versions (with FDC, not with FDC, etc.) of AMCS on the 3020 and I can unfortunately confirm it doesn't work with the A3000 initialisation. I guess something is different with the hardware. I'll be looking into it now I've got the machine setup.

That's great - thanks everyone. Anthem looks ideal but it's £70 which is more than the machine cost! I'll keep searching for a free (or happy to make a donation) download. Good deal on an A3020 there then! I vaguely remember Clares Rhapsody 2 appearing on the Kosovo Orphans Charity CD which looks t...

Re: Music 5000 FPGA

I gather it must be one of the defacto standards I'd not heard of it being used prior to the Music 500. Which is not to say no such usage existed. If anyone finds record of one, I'd be interested to hear. Ah last time I posted here was a while back, I did some research into what the actual term for...

Re: Is there a maximum program size under BASIC 5 ?

Yeah, like I said it's not done through the CLI. To do a wrap you manipulate the line numbers to go from 0-65280 and then repeat, then you chain the code through the interpreter. I found the interpreter (outside of CLI) will accept 65281 (&FF01), but I stuck with 65280 (&FF00) in the end since it fi...

Re: Is there a maximum program size under BASIC 5 ?

The line limit is actually 65281, but the BASIC CLI will moan at 65279 iirc. !StrongEd should allow you to go past that. There's also the obvious memory limit, you can only store so many variables, etc. Although BASIC "compresses" similar variable names, so it should be reasonably optimal in that ca...

Re: AMCS is alive !

Unfortunately Emulators and Development Boards like the Pi won't be supported at all, because ultimately it would be going backwards from self contained portable devices; ARM Netbooks and Tablets. Whilst I appreciate the work being done on Pi and RISC OS, etc. it's not a platform for reliable and pr...

Re: AMCS is alive !

Ah well, I stand corrected on the AZERTY keyboard, I've not seen them when I've researched availability of the Netbooks in general, but then if the generic faux leather usb keyboards come in AZERTY then it's no surprise really. Re: AMCS is alive !

Thankyou for your interest. Unfortunately there isn't really a need to support AZERTY keyboards since AMCS has very little text editing in it, just naming items. Also VIA never released an AZERTY version of the Netbook AFAICS. The device this runs on is a 7 inch (800x480) WM8650 800MHz 256MB Netbook...

Ah yeah, I see what you're doing, abusing the channel switching to dither the approximation error :). I should be careful doing this, if you look at the datasheet Acorn do mention about an introduction of distortion from the current pits between channel switching, so you might get some anomalies fro...

Steve, just a couple of things. I can't see how you're getting any extra bits out of a 7 bit DAC with 1 bit sign switching, is there some mod? And the current companded audio system achieves 14-bit output by ignoring any of the "detail" the human ear wouldn't be sensitive to (aparently only 120 leve...

Poink, breath deep, people post stuff on the internet :D. I think Zarchos is just frustrated like I was a while back about a capable platform dying away purely because business chose to obsolete it. But we can still be very thankful that we have a legacy of hardware available to us in future systems...

Re: Sprite routines in MODE 13 - how did YOU do it?

Chucked this together in a week for someone a while back, it's the startings of a game engine but I've kind of had to drop it because of AMCS (amcs.3rdevent.net). You're welcome to muck around with it, although the royalties for using the code are unreasonably steep, j/k (unless it's commercial use)...
