Re: AtomSID

I have been looking at my options for a SID chip and decided not to remove one from a working machine and go for a SwinSID... - It can emulate either 6581 or 8580, selectable with a jumper. - It runs off 5v so does not need a voltage step up circuit/board. - People say it does not sound as good as a...

Re: Acorn Disk Pack questions

Thanks Kees,
Checking the connections was my next move but wondered if anyone else had done anything similar.
I didn't ask the last question very well but you knew what I meant and answered perfectly with the address ranges.

Acorn Disk Pack questions

Hi All, I notice there are two rows of holes for an extra connector on the disk pack PCB. Can I add a connector to this so I can add either my co-pro board or AtomSID inside the disk pack housing and have the other board on PL7? Does the second connector face downwards as we look at it so the extra ...

Re: Atom Video to HDMI Adapter

That disc is covered in mould - I'd recommend not putting in a drive, as it will clog the heads. I found out the hard way. It appears to have damaged the surface, almost pattern like, of two disks so I’ve checked them all and cleaned the heads. When the heads were dirty the disk squeaked while it w...

Re: Atom Video to HDMI Adapter

Looks like an Atom disk pack to the right of your picture :) Well spotted! Yes I got it on Saturday but had to take it to bits yesterday as one of the disks had some dirt on it which transferred to the head and it squeaked and scratched two disks so I had to clean it. Re: Dutch Techsat 2019

Thanks Wim for organising another great Atomic Techsat. It was good to see again the people I met last year and also some new faces. Earlier this year I bought an Atom so I was able to contribute and bring it along. However, I spent most of my time talking to other people and looking at the amazing ...

Lucky they didn't over-package the CLPD then.
They’ve done the same for me!
I suppose it reduces their waste bill by sending it to customers.

Re: YARRB

1) install the board in your Atom - it needs a reference voltage. 2) run iMPACT From the Xilinx suite 3) connect the cable red LED should come on 4) turn on Atom, LED should turn green 5) follow these steps (taken from Hoglet’s video to hdmi wiki)... In iMPACT, double clock on "Boundary Scan". Press...

Did you add a new resolution file then? (for 1024x768@60Hz)?
No, I'm relying on the auto setting.
Maybe a proper setting will remove the margins?

Re: Atom Video to HDMI Adapter

Just picked up an HP 1530 monitor with DVI input for €5. It has speakers for when I get an AtomSID sorted out and I think I like the display better than my proper HDMI monitor as the backlight is more even and the screen is less reflective. Re: Atom Video to HDMI Adapter

The components I've specified will allow the board to run at 4MHz, which is beyond what most Atom Users require. It should be possible to use a slower RAM, but you will need to increase the the R1/C7 and R2/C8 timing components. I have used a Hitachi HM62256ALP-10 which I have plenty of in my stock...

Re: Acorn Atom power connections on motherboard.

Garbage on screen at startup is normal. You can increase the value of the reset capacitor C11 to stop it.

How are you connecting the video? RF?
There is a composite video output on pin 9 of PL4 and pin 10 is GND.

Re: YARRB

This has to be done in the VHDL source file and the a new jedec file has to be generated for programming into the CPLD. I quite like it the way it is. Just having an understanding of it makes it less complicated to me. A standard Atom has only one socket for an expansion rom at #A000 (IC24). When I...

Re: YARRB

Ok, after reading the RAMROM bits document, it’s a little clearer to me how this works.

Now, how do I change the startup value of BFFE and what do the bits of BFFF relate to?

Excuse my ignorance.

Neil.

PS: BFFE=6 does invoke AtoMMC and fill the RAM hole.
