Re: PSU for Atom

On a side note, you won't get a colour picture using the composite output. You'll have to create a cable using the outputs from the colour board directly or use UHF (given the needed modifications are done, see attached guide).

Ran the program and it came up with the number 16 which implies IC65

IMG_20191024_191558238.jpg

By the way the screen flickers as if the numbers are going on / off
Looking at the screen picture it is indeed 16 / D4 being pulled high, but it is more likely to be caused by a faulty IC 57 (CAS1).

Took the motherboard out of the case, reconnected the PSU and now the damn thing wont come on :(

I just get a long beep
Do you now get a long beep with all settings of S25 (north / south / removed)?

Can you post a picture of the start-up screen in 32K mode? That may be enough to diagnose which memory chip is faulty.

Re: Wanted: A310 floppy drive

The panel shown in the photo is not a later version; it is an original front with rectangular holes cut out by a previous user to take HD floppy drives. The A4xx series have facia that were designed to fit complete drives; I suppose I could use one of those (if I had a spare A4xx front, which I don’...

CJE Micros have them but they're not cheap.
Thanks for checking Rob, £70+p&p would be ok, if it would be shipped with an A310 around it. Looking for more hobby friendly options.

Wanted: A310 floppy drive

I have an Arc A310 that is a bit hacked up that I’m trying to restore. One of the modifications is a HD podule to support HD drives. To fit the HD drive the front panel was hacked up. 314ABA07-5330-46B9-9A29-E8E21B2ADA51.jpeg I have a replacement panel but not the drive. So I’m looking for a regular...

The ‘Acorn’ badged joysticks lack any joy IMHO... Mark I like the Acorn badged analogue joysticks. They have character imo. Just don’t try to play games with them that were designed for digital joysticks. Snapper and Frogger (e.g.) are a frustrating experience with analogue joysticks. I used them f...

Re: Problems booting beeb issue 4

Of course desoldering the socket is the way to go but if you have a turned pin socket you could try plugging that into the old socket and putting the rom in there. The larger pins of the turned pin socket may make better contact than the ic pins. If that does not work then no harm done, if it does w...

Re: My new poorly Atom

On a separate note, my Atom clearly did not come with the original PCB and case screws and, as a result, some of the mounting pillars in the case have split slightly (and will need to be repaired). The Technical Manual simply describes the screws as 2 short and 4 long self-tapping screws. I would g...

The disc pack has it's power lead cut off, which is a bit of a worry. If the pack PSU would have deemed been beyond repair for this man it would be a challenge to fix. It basically hands control over to a ROM at #1xxx unless the shift key is pressed.

This is consistent, I think, with what you have observed.

Could you run the following program, and take a clear photo?

Code: Select all

10 PRINT $12
20 FOR X=#FF10 TO #FFFF
30 A=?X
40 LINK #F802
50 NEXT
60 END
We can then see whether there are other OS ROM modifications.

Tonight I’ve been connecting some dots. Rom selection logic + CPU not processing = wrong OS selected? IC23, which does the ROM select decoding, looks like it's been modified significantly.

I'd try to understand what's that's trying to achieve.

Any chance of a close up photo of that area?
