Re: BBC B Single Beep with Corrupt Screen

Can you change mode to mode 0?

Do the dashes only appear after you type a line or are there dashes on other parts of the screen (too)?

Re: Two dead Atoms! Life Support possible?

Can you post pictures of the boards? Do the Atoms both still have their speakers?

The RF signal can be a pain to find. You can do a simple video mod to change the output of the RF socket to composite video. See here: https://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopi ... 72#p232713

the caps lock and num lock lights turn on and off when pressed.
Are you saying the caps lock can be toggled using the caps lock key?

Is there a cooling fan installed and does it run?

What happens if you wait a few seconds after switching on, then press F12 and then press Copy (or ctrl-g)?

Re: Elite in ROM??

I think the sideways RAM version of Elite for the Model B loads once then doesn't access the disc again. Could be wrong. Not quite what you are asking but quicker than the original disc version. I've been searching the interwebs for a B+ 64kb Sideways Ram/Rom Module but have only found some for the...

Re: New meber from the Netherlands.

Welcome to Stardot! :D About the drives: - You have a gotek working on the interface port of the BBC so the Beeb hardware should be fine - It is a dual drive (right?), it is unlikely that both drives developed the exact same fault at the same time. So if you have eliminated faulty floppies as a caus...

In the photo the OS/BASIC chip is in the wrong socket, it should be in IC71 (it is now in IC68).

On a side note, you won't get a colour picture using the composite output. You'll have to create a cable using the outputs from the colour board directly or use UHF (given the needed modifications are done, see attached guide).

By the way the screen flickers as if the numbers are going on / off
Looking at the screen picture it is indeed 16 / D4 being pulled high, but it is more likely to be caused by a faulty IC 57 (CAS1).

Re: Wanted: A310 floppy drive

The panel shown in the photo is not a later version; it is an original front with rectangular holes cut out by a previous user to take HD floppy drives. The A4xx series have facia that were designed to fit complete drives; I suppose I could use one of those (if I had a spare A4xx front, which I don’...

Wanted: A310 floppy drive

I have an Arc A310 that is a bit hacked up that I’m trying to restore. One of the modifications is a HD podule to support HD drives. To fit the HD drive the front panel was hacked up. 314ABA07-5330-46B9-9A29-E8E21B2ADA51.jpeg I have a replacement panel but not the drive. So I’m looking for a regular...

Re: Problems booting beeb issue 4

Of course desoldering the socket is the way to go but if you have a turned pin socket you could try plugging that into the old socket and putting the rom in there. The larger pins of the turned pin socket may make better contact than the ic pins. If that does not work then no harm done, if it does w...

On a separate note, my Atom clearly did not come with the original PCB and case screws and, as a result, some of the mounting pillars in the case have split slightly (and will need to be repaired). The Technical Manual simply describes the screws as 2 short and 4 long self-tapping screws. I would g...
