Re: poorly Master in need of assistance

The Master should boot without a keyboard so you could see what it does without the keyboard connected.

If you remove the OS ROM you should get a continuous beeeeep (no cursor). What do you get if you switch her on without the OS ROM?

Re: Today I received.....

The seller offered me a part refund if it still worked after straightening the pins or a full refund if it didn't. Once I stopped laughing I declined the offer and asked for a return address. James :D If you still need a replacement here’s one from my favourite source: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-...

Re: RISC PC - no floppy icon, motherboard IDE dead

I don’t have experience with fixing these on a RiscPC but plenty on an A5000. First thing to check is the tracks. If they are all ok the next likely culprits are the 74 type buffer ICs between the IO chip and the interface. I’d start with the floppy interface (fewer tracks to check). In your case it...

Re: Success with the BBC Master system, but the Acorn....

Good to hear the Master was a success! :D For your Atom a nice way to get a video output is to convert the UHF socket into a video socket: https://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=16577&p=229878#p232713 You can then use an RCA video cable to connect it to the yellow socket of your tv using...

Re: Purchasing CP/M Software for the Z80 second processor

Well, both dBase II for CP/M and Wordstar for CP/M seem to have been archived and available for download for some 21 years. If there were any copyright concerns you'd expect they would have surfaced by now. But I'm not in a position to voice "forum stance" so perhaps one of the admins can take posit...

I can't help you with the 8BS method, but I do know that the cracked Ample ROM works fine with any system disk. I just tested that with an original M5000 system disk.

Did a Music87 disc ever turn up? If not, I’ll try to take an image of mine. The M87 disk I have seems to be incomplete so an image is very welcome. There is also some unclarity on the workings of this software. See https://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12792 Pehaps an image from an alternat...

What you ask seems to match with a Morley AA Master board, which is a fully internal solution.

But I don’t think they are offered for sale very often.

Re: Upgraded (in 1980-something) BBC Model A keyboard not working

To eleminate the ribbon cable you can reverse it. Disconnect, rotate the cable 180 degrees and reconnect. If any line(s) are malfunctioning they are then connecting different pins. If the behaviour does not change it is unlikely to be caused by the cable. Are there any roms in there that can be misb...

Re: Purchasing CP/M Software for the Z80 second processor

What I understand from CP/M is that it has a hardware specific part and a generic CP/M part. Only bootable disks would really be specific for the hardware, loading machine-specific drivers. The Z80 Second Processor brochure suggested that most CP/M software would run on it. But so far I have not fou...

The battery is fine but you will essentially be installing a new time bomb in your A7000 if you solder it directly on the MB. It will start to leak at some point in the future.

Best keep it well away from the MB...

Purchasing CP/M Software for the Z80 second processor

The last few years I have seen and used a number of CP/M systems. They all had different floppy disk formats: 8", 5.25", 40 Tracks, 80 Tracks, 100 TPI / 96TPI, different densities, etc. Of course the Acorn Z80 Second Processor has its own disk format. Now what if you would want to buy commercial sof...

If it is a BBC model B, there is also the option to use UltraX DFS. That lets you specify which drive contains a virtual disk and which is a physical floppy disk drive, so you can copy between images and real floppies.

The disk image is a 200K ssd. A CPM disk is image normally 400K, it seems only side 0 is now imaged. Since there was interesting stuff at the end of the image there may be more on side 1?

Any chance of imaging the original disk as a dsd 400K image?
