Greeting fellow Acrons

Postby Chompalot » Sun Jun 25, 2017 12:52 pm

I've recently bought a BBC B of Ebay, to revisit my youth playing Elite.

After replacing the caps and installing a retroclinic datacentre I'm happily probing the universe, albeit gently at the moment. I dont seem to have got the hang of saving games at the moment so it's groundhog version of Elite..... I've found the @ key but it doesn't seem to save the game, or is it a loading issue?

Also the Beeb seems to have some issues starting up, with the startup screen apearing and disapearing, although it seems to accept inputs from the keyboard whilst the screen is blank, so a video issue. I'm currently using the RGB output to a scart connector again bought off Ebay, to a 40 inch 4K sony TV :D

Hi there.
In elite you can only save when docked.
Your video issues could be caused by your TV being too modern and not liking the signal from the beeb. Have you tried another TV?

Welcome.

Yes I get flicker with Electrons which I believe puts out lower signal strength. Beeb b so so, masters are rock steady.

I believe chompalot said he is using an RGB to scary cable from eBay. Although make/model wasn't mentioned.

Hi all and thanks for the welcome,

Sydney, yup I'd figured that out after stabbing the button multiple times in flight. I've got a slightly older LG TV but it's still a smart 47 inch HDTV, not quite as new as the Sony, but not in the right place to use :(

Elminster - once it's settled down theres no drop out and alls fine, just a startup issue.

Pablos544, yup thats exactly the one I bought Yay.

Elminster, yup Its a scary cable indeed.

Hi Multiwizard and thanks

Hi Dutch Acorn, I've managed to travel from one space station but not managed to get back :( and still not saved, I'm trying to figure out where the game save goes, it a sks for a disc and I've said 5 as thats supposed to be the USB, but when you doe the catalgue option 5 doesn't seem to exist. I may have to ask retroclinic's advice.

Hi Tricky thanks for the pointer I'll have to have a read of that one, but I'm still having dificulty remembering all the buttons to press LOL.

Hi davidb and thanks

Hi roland and Greetings

Don't think saving to USB will work. You probably need to at least switch on disk trap and save to the compac flash on a DC. Not that I have tried to save Elite save games on one. Others will know better.

Ta Flaxcottage

Elminster

I've no idea what disc trap is or how to turn it on, so more reading of the manual required. I have bought a compact flash card off ebay, but I'm waiting for the inteface board to arrive from China. I saw an example on RetroClinics photos and though that looks line a good idea for local storage.

I found a hint about game saves - at viewtopic.php?t=3414

"Saving your game in Elite and then forgetting to write the disk back to the stick is a pain in the....."
