Yes, an emulation issue, and not just with Acornsoft titles either. It's down to misreported sector sizes I think and/or when to report a Data CRC error. B-Em reads/returns the amount of bytes specified in the sector IDs with fdi2raw_loadtrack, rather than the amount being read within the osword &7F control block. :?

Hi,
Did anyone get any further with these?
Pernod, did you ever attempt to get dsd's from the fdi's?

Due to the emulation issue no further progress was made. If I can't read the images in emulation then I can't extract the required data.

I hadn't taken a further look at them until you mentioned it! I've been going through the 200+ disks i've FSD'd to check that they all work properly. Only had a few trip up so far, but that's down to other aspects of the emulation (i think).

I've not had chance to play it in depth - i just know it loads! Why did you only ask about them on a Sunday, Lee, when the weekend is over! :P

If i get the opportunity later, i'll SSDify the others.

Got the opportunity, so here they are :)

=D> Absolutely brilliant Bill =D>
That's some more amazing games to add to the archives :D
Referring back to the Topologika catalogue that I posted on page one of this thread, we are still missing:

AVON and MURDAC (2 game pack)

HEZARIN (2 game pack with last days of doom)

KINGDOM OF HAMIL

SPYSNATCHER

So, if anyone knows of a source for these games, please let us know!

I am also interested in finding out for certain which adventures Acornsoft actually released on Disk for the Beeb, and which ones of these we have archived.
Some of the ones we have on disk seem to be tape versions which have been hacked to save to disk.
Any info would be much appreciated.

Once again, thanks to Arcadian for supplying the images, and Bill for converting them =D>

Cheers Col,
Well, according to that (very nice) page, the following were DEFINITELY released on disc (or disk! - I like how it varies!)

ACHETON, COUNTDOWN TO DOOM, KINGDOM OF HAMIL, PHILOSOPHER'S QUEST, QUONDAM, SPHINX ADVENTURE.

The following (according to the same page) only have tape versions:

CASTLE OF RIDDLES, GATEWAY TO KAROS, SEVENTH STAR

So, if anyone has evidence of those 3 being released on disk, then let us know.

I know ACHETON disk version has been archived on Pernod's disks, but are the others in the archive the tape or the disk version?? :-k

:D Hi Bill :D are you busy?

Whenever you get 3 minutes spare, could you up the Acornsoft disk versions pretty pretty please :D

Yes, I am well aware that I am a pain!!

Hi,
I am just having a dialogue with Jacob Gunness of CASA, who is talking to Adam Atkinson, who used to work on the original Phoenix Mainframe at Cambridge where these games originally were written.
They are wanting to nail down once and for all, which systems these games were OFFICIALLY released for. They want better evidence than a software catalogue, as these can be unreliable**

The 2 eBay listings at the moment for AVON and RETURN TO DOOM are great evidence of official release status for the BBC B, B+ and MASTER.
Do we have any more "evidence" of other releases?

Apparently they were released for the Electron and would only work if you had the PRES AP4. Is this correct?

Were they all released for the Archimedes?

And what is the story with SPY SNATCHER being available, but not OFFICIALLY released?

**can anybody point me to that Topologika catalogue that I posted a while back? the zip file seems to be broken.

Thanks,

Lee.

I have physical copies of 'Philosopher's Quest' and 'Countdown to Doom' (both Topologika 1987), labelled as 'DFS disc for BBC, BBC+, Master'. The labels are actually stick-on ones over the original printed covers which say 'MS-DOS version for Amstrad PC 1512 and compatibles'. Presumably if they went to the trouble of printing up the covers then they would have released them (for DOS).

Cheers,

Phil Young

This order form shows the formats in which Topologika's first four adventures were released on (BBC, PC, PCW and CPC).

27/07/2006  10,067      Avon + Murdac (Topologika) (BMC) (Disc35) (DFS) [disc-Y] [Murdac].log

Thanks for that, Arcadian! Although BillC did post an SSD of Avon, above, it seems to be an Electron version, compatible with a BBC Master but not with a BBC Model B. (Btw, there's a list of Topologika releases whose "Stated compatibility" is given as "Acorn Electron" here, on Acorn Electron World.)

I notice that Murdac has never been posted on the forum. Does that mean that your copy, Arcadian, has gone missing?

If so, then I should also point out that there's a copy of the Avon/Murdac two-pack for BBC B, B+ and Master, on eBay at the moment. I'm anxious that an archive-wizard from Stardot should win it, so I guess that means Arcadian or BillCarr!? I'll be willing to contribute to a bid to ensure one of you wins the auction if it means we'll all have access to an archived copy of Beeb Murdac at last.

Send me a PM, Arcadian, BillCarr, or anyone else, if you're interested in a joint eBay bid.

Avon has been won!
Thankfully, without any increase in price :)
I'll check with the seller if he can post it first class, that way i'll be able to image it before Christmas.
Thanks again to any bidders who held back to keep the final cost low =D>

Excellent.
Now we all need to keep our eyes peeled for HEZARIN and KINGDOM OF HAMIL.
There is also a remote possibility that SPYSNATCHER exists somewhere too...
