Just re-checked US Drag Racing on my real BBC and both BeebEm and b-em and the keys work fine.

You have to press Space a couple of times until you get "start your engines", then press < and > rapidly to up the revs and then when the light changes from yellow to green, press Space (whilst still revving) to change gear. It is a bit frantic and the instructions taken from the inlay do not really tell you to do this, but the game does work, although it is not Tynesoft's best effort (or worst, if that says anything!).

Just checked Elixir on my Beeb.
It does work, but you need DTRAP as it is a disk version that re-activates the disk drive after downloading the loader.
(D) has been added to disc 034.

Mick.

Hi Mick,
If you play for about a minute (but usually less), it usually crashes BAD PROGRAM. Make sure you do some punches and kicks though.... it seems to be the first time you kick a baddie in the head!!

I've attempted to test MB011 to MB015. This is my first go at doing this, so might have got the wrong end of the stick - so just tell me where I've gone wrong and I'll improve. Hopefully!

Big thanks to Mick and Lee for all the hard work - just running through "only" 5 discs was a mission (I might have got distracted with a few key titles!), so preparing and testing all of them - big job. =D>

What I'm not sure about is instructions - not sure where these are "in-game" or newly provided - so if the in-game/original instructions are wrong, do "we" fix them? Does perfect mean perfect English or prefect reproduction? :?:

Tested on BBC B with DC.

MB011

Copter Capers - instructions have things like "some how" and "carefull"
Arabian Nights - instructions say that G is move up ... but also that G is restart game.
Arabian Nights - lots of random sounding noise - is the sound correct?

MB012

Geoff Capes "recieve" appears on one page of instructions.

MB013

Mr. Mephisto - wasn't sure what I was meant to be doing in this game - but seems to be working.

Spitfire Command - "fighter's" - should be "fighters" in instructions

MB014

Micro Olympics - noisy sounds near the end of the running race - didn't seem right.

Ant Killer - instructions talk about "hoards of ... ants" - should be "hordes"

Labyrinth - instructions talk about if the "Crazy Crawler come" - should be "comes"

MB015

All good.

Otherwise seemed to be all working - I didn't check every page of instructions for the games that had pages and pages and pages (e.g. Savage Pond) But I did make sure each game loaded and was playable (but sometimes really wasn't sure what to do.)

And some of those games are just too damn hard - e.g. Kissin' Kousins - just not even fun to try.

Well done Richard =D>
If you want another 5 let me know.
It is slightly mind numbing work and like you say, Most games just aren't fun to test.
When all this is done I am going to compile a mini collection of all the best games that the beeb has to offer. That should be more fun I hope :D
Remember also that this is the second time I have tested these :D and I did that just after testing the full STH 143 disc collection
I have done disc 46 and will do 47 to 50 tomorrow so if you want 5 then it will be 51 to 55.
I am out at the moment but if you need the latest ones I will post them as soon as possible....

I will take them, but not sure when I'll be able to test ... SWMBO is present!

Once the definitive set of discs are done, I'll look at Master conversions (but it might be a 5 year project!) Probably makes more sense to look at converting the "good games" collection, though - a lot of the games don't deserve too much time & attention.

There are some real gems in there - it was possible to get the BBC B to produce some amazing titles - e.g. on the last batch I tested - Castle Quest. Graphics, sound, smooth scrolling, the puzzles. Also Repton, DeathStar, Magic Mushrooms, Labyrinth. But there are also a lot of rubbish games!

And I still want to unlock the secret of Eagle Empire's crashing on emulators/some machines.

Hi Lee,
Here is disc 042 again with a new version of Shanghai Warriors.
My old version did not like the downloading routine, so I have tried it a different way. Also spelling mistake sorted.

Disc042.zip

PS no instructions yet for Black Box.
PS the keys are quite complex for BFOF, but to get the keys listed in the instructions, you have to press f1 for a 1 player game then press f3 until key is selected.
If I get the chance, I will see about adding some more info to the game.

regards,
Mick.

MB056 seems OK ... the games aren't as good any more (he said tactfully!), though. But given that I've never produced a game in my life, I can't really talk. I'll try the others and report back.

DISK 46 OK

DISK 47
CAMELOT - instructions "stupidy" should be "stupidity"
KEYCHASE - When you die the game exits to BASIC, is this correct?
REPTON INFINITY - instructions on the 'ROBBO' page, "logic cicuits" should be "logic circuits"

DISK 48 OK

DISK 49
WINTER WONDERLAND - has graphics problems on Beebem with both disks 49B (worse) and 49 (better)
ANDROID - instructions are badly written in general and don't make much sense in places.
Also has graphics problems on Beebem

DISK 50
Flipper - not obvious what you have to do on the setup screen and that if you leave it for a minute the game starts playing by itself

MB057

Does (E) in the menu mean Electron? If so I think Lander on this disc is for the Electron - it says Electron User at the start?

Otherwise all good.

MB058

All good apart from Snackman - the graphics seem a bit weird - screenshot is from Beebem, but it is the same on real BBC B with DataCentre. Never saw it BITD so this might be fine.
Snackman.jpg
Snackman - are the graphics right?

Will check 59 & 60 soon.

Hi Richard,
Lander on Disc 057 was re-released by Alternative as a BBC/Electron title on one of their compilations.
I do believe it was originally a Electron User release originally, so I am split as to whether to use a (E) or not as it is basic and therefore runs on either machine without the need for modification.

As for Snackman, this was a pain in the backside to get to work and is not the best game in its genre by far, but I do believe that this is how it is meant to be.

any suggestions?
Mick.

Results for discs 6 to 10 (from my phone).
Disk 6 Laser reflex - can't get past the key setup.
Stock car. Could we mention the keys. Z X Q and A as they are not obvious.

Disk7 ok
disk8 ok. *What is the problem game on disc 8b Mick? ? **
Disk9 ok

Disk 10 asteroid belt and galactic commander have spelling mistakes in the instructions maneuvering and necessary but I think these may be the actual in game instructions and not typed in ones????

That should be just about up to date for the first 60 apart from Richard has one or 2 left.
Thanks.
Lee.

No useful suggestions, no! Snackman seemed unplayable to me because you can't see the ghosts because the ghost graphic is everywhere in the maze. But then I'm not much of a games-player. Maybe that is meant to be part of the "challenge" - you can't easily see the ghosts? Is there another image of this anywhere? (Not that it is really worth this effort, but I am curious!)

Thanks.

MB059

Lots of trival issues (see below) but the main real issue is that I could not get Curse of the Middle Kingdom to start - with or without DTRAP, nor would it work on Beebem.

The small issues (and some/all? of these of in-game instructions so might not be fixable):

INDOOR SPORTS - "similations" and "stunning graphic details" (detail singular might be better?)

LAST NINJA - p.2 "large sprites ... than" would be better as "larger sprites ... than" p.3 of instructions "recieve" instead of receive.

EBONY CASTLE p.2 "its so cold" should be "it's so cold"

AIR ATTACK "A waring will be made" - should be warning?

APOLLO - Stage 1 instructions "moons gravity" should be "moon's gravity"
