Did anyone manage to complete any of the 3 hacks I posted in the Issues section.
I am hoping that the 2nd one I posted works.

regards,
Mick.

Final High Score Tables updated for this round......

This was a pretty tough Vindaloo-type' game where high scores were earned with difficulty. Today,
KarateEd (me) - came in first with a decent score into round 5 of the game. Thanks for playing this one, despite it's obvious faults and bugs that tended to get in the road of game playing. It was a lucky win....... :-)

Almost forget about this...

Here's what I hope is a fixed version of Bug Eyes.
It is the same version that keeps the stars scrolling whilst loading the main game, but I have added Bill C's Datacentre fix to it.
Could someone please try this version and let me know the outcome.

many thanks
Mick.

Still crashes on completion, I'm afraid...

Here's what I hope is the final fixed version of Bug Eyes.
It is the same version taken from the STH data that stops the stars scrolling before loading the main game except I have added Bill C's Datacentre fix to it.
Could someone please try this version and let me know the outcome.

many thanks
Mick.

If this version works, then Bill C's fix is OK and it was the stars moving that somehow interfered with the game.

Hi Jools

I have removed the Datacentre fix from the above version.
Could you try this one and let me know the outcome.

Mick.

If this isn't the fault, then maybe I'm using the wrong copy.
If so, do you have the right copy as the link earlier to the ssd used in the tournament just makes a mess when downloaded.

That one crashes on completion too.

This version is the one that works: https://www.stairwaytohell.com/bbc/archive/diskimages/Icon/BugEyes.zip

This is very strange as I have checked all the Machine Code and it is identical to that version.

Although the working version has all the code for the smaller files stored then moved into position, the code is the same.

However,
3 things that may be of concern, although I cannot see how are...

1. The working copy has a *FX200,2 command.
2. My version had a cursor off routine after selecting Mode 1 in the BUGEYE2 file.
3. The working copy has a JMP&FFF7 to load the main game and mine had a JSR&FFF7 (as per tape version).

So here is the game again with the original BUGEYE2 file with no added cursor off routine, but a added *FX200,2 (added as machine code) to BUG1 as well as the JMP&FFF7 to run BUG5.

Surely it can't be something as simple as these. In fact, let's hope so!

Mick assume you might try this now anyway but if the cursor off routine is the problem could be worth giving 23;8202;0;0;0; and also 23,1,0;0;0;0; a go instead?

Fantastic news!
Now we can build from this one step at a time.

The first step is to add Bill C's Datacentre fix to this version and see if it still works.
If so, then we will have a working version for use with a Datacentre.

If you could try this one.

Also, if this works, then I will try a different cursor off routine, although it only flashes briefly anyway from disc.

PS
Hopefully, hack 8 will work fine. At least we will know one way or the other. If not, then hack 7 will have to do for now.

Either way, it is possible to keep the stars scrolling whilst loading. The working hack had the scrolling data spill out between &1100 and &1300 which would corrupt the main game which loads over it.
The version on Disc012 had this routine moved to between &900 and &B00 and so not interferring with the main game as it gets switched off via *FX13,4 before the data in BUG4 from &3000 gets moved down to &900.
Hack 9 will feature the stars, but first we need to see how the Datacentre fix pans out as this may or may not get included with hack 9 depending on hack 8's outcome.

So hack 7 works!
Hack 8 is to be currently tested...
and after testing hack 8, then hack 9 will have the stars scrolling again.
If hack 9 works then FANTASTIC!

Fix #8 loops fine too :)

I did get this happen as well... I don't usually die on "Wot No Aliens" but I did one time round just now, and for the rest of my lives I get stuck on the lift. Hopefully this is just a bug in the game, not a nasty protection trick.

Sort of good news then.

Just to be sure, we know fix7 is OK but doesn't have Bill C's Datacentre fix.
Fix 8 does, but gameplay may be affected.

So I am going to add the star routine to both fix 7 and fix 8 and repost them here as fix 9 and fix 10 respectively.

Fix 9 has stars moving whilst loading, but no datacentre fix
Fix10 has stars moving whilst loading and the datacentre fix.

Let's see if these work or if they fail.
Hopefully they will both work!

thanks very much for the testing.

The "wot no aliens" bug I'm not sure about which versions were affected. I never usually die on "wot no aliens", so I don't trigger the bug - I just happened to mess it up this time. For all I know, all versions could be affected.

Absolutely fantastic!
I could not have fixed it without Jools playing the game.

Just one thing left, fix11 below is fix10 with a cursor off routine.
It would be great to find out if this version works, or if the cursor off routine somehow breaks the game.

If OK then fix11 will be the best version we could have.
Either way fix10 or fix11 will be used to amend my Disc12 copy and also create a new Zelda version for ALTD002

thanks again to Jools for testing.
It is just as well we have the High Score challenge section. Not only to play the games, but also report anything wrong.

Absolutely GOOD NEWS!

I have now added this working version to my Disc012 and will be reposting that disc shortly.

Also, I have added the amended code to the Zelda Meets The Bug Eyes alternative version that appeared a later games compilation tape and was on my ALTD002.
I have been able to retransfer this game from tape and then just add the new bits.

If I could ask one more favour, that is to check this version below and if OK, then I will add it to ALTD002 and repost that disc.

Again, many many thanks, Mick.
