I remember this game, but never actually owned it, I assume this is the same game Blue Ribbon released?

Indeed it is a pretty tough game, a good game, but hard !

When I started playing this game, I was wondering if I was going to even be able to post a score. This isn't an easy one at all and I think it's not the logic of the game that gets you, it's the poor keyboard reaction time. There is such a thing as pixel perfect, this, to me is not that. It is more that the algorithm is not smooth for input. Having said that, it's truly reminiscent of those by-gone eras of 8-bit computing.

I think this might be a bit more responsive on real hardware but it's still not very good that way. The game concept is really excellent, the execution of the movement isn't so much. Not a complaint, we're all on the same playing field, just an observation.

Here is my effort, largely luck I think... 7000 EDIT: 7400

* Classic 80's game
* Fast and hard (especially when the levels repeat )
* Tricky controls
* Coffee is awesome and usually worth going out of the way for
* My perspective keeps flipping to inverse view
* No movement pattern recognition possible

* See above

I had a bit of a love-hate thing with this game, the controls are kinda clunky, but there's still some fun to be had.

I've already got further than I did back in the day... got to level 4 here. I don't remember the timer being quite this brutal.

One neat thing about this game is that the nasties never seem to box you in Pacman-style - they'll always leave you a way out. Seems like that was programmed deliberately?

Yes, I noticed that too. It's a nice 'feature' for all the other difficult parts. Mostly I lose a life because of the unresponsiveness of the keys, it's just not a smooth transition to points of turning. That's just the game, otherwise the design is pretty good.

It's a tough game but when you beat your last high score, it's pretty rewarding....

Squeezed a bit more out of it. Luck seems to play a large part in this game... the timer will often get you, no matter how skillful you are.

It's not a bad little game, but the controls make it a bit frustrating. I like the frogs! After a few tries my best so far is 8,400.

Oh, yes, it is so bad..... don't kid yourself.... there are issues with this game but we all have the same crazy playing field. I also agree with Jools that luck plays a fairly big part. The second you get chased from the 'normal' safe route, you will likely lose to the timer.

Also luck plays a part in how you end up starting the level (how's that for an oxymoron?). Certain starting positions seem to engender larger scores than others because they are just more efficient and whether you get a coffee cup popping up near you seems to help a lot too. That is random. I've found that if I try to chase the cup, I lose to the timer so I just don't do it any more.

This game had the opportunity to be so much more, better controls would help, a little less randomness in things like the coffee cup and/or the starting point.... all in all, a good effort by the programmers but I feel it just falls short.

Got lucky here. Still only level 4, but completed some of the earlier levels quickly.

GNNNARRR only got past 1000 once let alone in the high score table.

Keep getting "stuck" one key tap away from changing direction in the pseudo-3D and while I'm hammering the keys trying to unglue myself along comes a monster. (Might be the emulator's or the game's fault but more likely to be me!)

Not my cup of tea!

Hi Richard,

Keep at it for a while, you'll get the hang of it. If you read all the posts along this page you'll see you are not at fault. The game is very 'sensitive' to the turning aspect but you can get a feel for it after a while.

It eventually updated, i'd tried refreshing, closing the page, closing the browser... it must of been a server or client caching issue I guess. The good news is I've made it to second place on the high score table for the first time

Finally got a new high score, after the 4th level, it just restarts and gets quicker (just like Astro Plumber which was the same author) don't think I can get any more than this.

I hear ya on this.... finally got through the 4th, had 4 lives and promptly lost them all on the '5th' level that I have mostly memorized now.

### Re: High Score Challenge Champion's Rd S6 - Nightmare Maze

Got to the second level, the second time around.

The game is a lot more fun once it speeds up the second time around. Perhaps it was originally that speed, but the author had to slow it down to make it easier. If it's the same author as Astro Plumber - which had the same issue - then that does explain a few things.
