Got a slightly better score than I managed last time.

I couldn't get the version posted above to work, although the one we used previously did?

A score to get myself on the board, not a fan of this game to be honest. I had to use the original Amcom/Pace release ssd as the Superior one won't work with BeebIT on RISC OS, gives an error message saying it requires OS 1.2 for some reason.

I'll change the link to the disk image to the one from the last time we played this.

Had a quick blast this morning and got 13750, quite a bit off the pace.

Just to have a look I played Fortress again a bit. In 1996 I only played it a few times as I noted just 1 score on 1 day then, and got to 79250. This time on the first day that I tried, I got to that exact same score... Then the next day to 81350. I get through the first 2 rounds without loss of life but after that the bullets of planes and guns are much faster and it requires a few different routes in some cases which I should apply to the slower first 2 levels so as not to need to change patterns. I can't get myself to put in more effort to re-learn it to do it flawlessly, so I think that's it from me. I just don't find it interesting to play (same as in 1996) since my 1986 score is just about impossible to improve on.

And not really related except by my interest in seeing whether game playing ability changed in 2017 vs. 1996 (and 1984): I tried Meteors a bit, a game that I dislike because you can't rotate accurately, but tried it just to see if I could get to the 73k high score (the highest from the mags that I believe is real, or at least really on a BBC micro), but still nowhere close to that. I got to 38k or so ( not far from my 1996 score of 42k) but the variance in scores is such that it shows that getting further is not mostly based on your ability. The randomness in how far I get is another factor that doesn't make me want to play this game more...
